- If I invited you from another channel, This is not the INSANE video I invited you to see. Check out the "It doesn't get any better than this" video. That solo is a little over 8 minutes long. To my subscribers, I am going to try to set it up so only you BR fans will find it. It's kinda anticlimactic after viewing the "Insane" video. lol but it's still awesome!! Enjoy, Some of you may have this one. Save this link somewhere if you want to see this again or share it after, Friday 1-10-14 as I will be changing the privacy settings to Unlisted or after Friday I will also have this link in the description of 1 of the "INSANE" videos.
THE greatest drummer to ever walk planet earth...BAR NONE!!!
An unstoppable force that will never ever go away, as long as there are drums there will always be Buddy Rich
As usual the best in the world ,he was very nice to me when i met him the one time, but saw him six times in my life, my parents always let me stay up when he was on Johnny Carsons show ,so i could see him. THE BEST!!!!
love the sound of those Slingerland Radio Kings
His drums ALWAYS sounded awesome.
@@bobbysands6923 Nah, his ludwigs sounded like cardboard with no feel and rogers sounded loose with no groove or grab. Slingerland always managed to give that warm, beautiful look and feel that was NEEDED to compliment Buddy's genius
@@liams706 I kind of agree with you about the Ludwigs (even though I'm a Ludwig guy). But I like the sound of his Rogers drums on most recordings on RUclips. Nevertheless, these Radio Kings are perfect.
@@liams706 The Ludwigs you heard him play on the Tonight show were rented and set up for him. It was not his set. They were tuned like crap most of the time under those circumstances.
@@liams706 Your opinion in wrong. You prob. never heard that band live. Drums are drums. The instrument has no feel or grove. SMH
Not his flashiest, but my God he is the most relaxed and the fastest I have seen him. Check out the sax player in the front row, the older guy with the kinky hair. At this point he has played with him 20-plus years. Check him out watching his boss doing this great solo...his expression says everything: he is still amazed. Never be another Buddy, The Bambino of drummers. No one is a close second.
This is more or less what Buddy played like on most gigs. . When you would see him on the Tonight Show you would see him at his most excited... and tense. He would do the high sticking at all that stuff and generally beat the crap out of the kit and That would actually limit what he could do. Buddy himself said he played his best.. and fastest when he was at his most relaxed. You get to see that here. The real deal.
Buddy’s worst night is still the best He was a genius and couldn’t get inside his head His hands were perfect from birth literally There were many great drummers at his time doing there thing like Sonny Payne who was to me on top of guys like Max Roach and PhillyI Jo Jones who were innovators but in reality nobody then or now was in Buddy’s league Like the great Louie Bellson said “There is no such Animal”
GREAT LEFT HAND TECHNIQUE MAKES THE DRUMS TUNE FULL ,,
Brass rims, Mahog/Poplar/Mahog shells. Solid 1 ply Maple snare. That is 30s construction. Awesome!
I never tire of watching Buddy. :)
Great clip, Thanks for sharing! Buddy was awesome here as always. Anyone else notice here, as in some other vids, that the trombone player takes Buddy's hi hat stand out of the way at the end of his solo?
+milbertyouidiot You're welcome. and yes, I've noticed the trombone player roadie. lol
In my opinion, this is the greatest drum solo by Buddy that I've ever seen. David L. Saelens (drummer, Rock Island, IL.) Posted 21 March 2019.
You wonder why almost all audience members marveling at Buddy were drummers? Because none of them could ever believe what they were seeing/hearing. Not one other drummer in world's history could match the insane things Buddy did with his left hand and bass drum, let alone both hands. He was the all time freak of nature on the drums and no one will ever come close.
Mel Torme wrote in his book about Rich that one evening, after not playing for several months after his first heart attack, he was goaded on stage to play a tune in a small club in NYC. Max Roach (no slouch) was the drummer that evening.
Torme said that Roach shook his head, jaw dropped, in disbelief at Buddy’s solo.
The best drummer ever made. The best drums ever made. (For that music). Just fantastic!
Great sounding kit, especially the snare .
The absolute master. Nobody better.
Buddy's a force to be reckoned with when it comes to drums 🥁
Buddy Rich was one drummer that always gave it
100% when playing. A perfectionist, Buddy never tolerated anything less from his band members.
Buddy was a genius on drums and his skills show such.
I love the swish cymbal In the sound of the kit
The little glance at the band at 3:50 says, "get ready!"
Super Freak, Super Bad, Super Genius....never to be seen again.
Jacksonville... Sweet! Never an anticlimax..
This is the best buddy I've seen...Holy Shit!
Fancy Buddy’s band getting to see him play every night.. up close ...AND getting paid for it.
Roy Beckerman It had to be both awesome and awful at the same time. Buddy was one angry jew, and kept the band in place at all times. One mistake and they were gone. But boy, did he play the drums...
Fairly late performance performed on a much earlier drum-kit. Excellent as always.. from the Master.
PHENOMENAL!!! CRAY CRAY CRAY!
stellar
1:21-1:28....SICK!
Predominant
one Rich one Hendrix one Joplin one Morrison
The left hand is a piston
O think Buddy played kind of correctly. The snare drum is the most important drum Too me.The hi hat is second, bass drum is the third.I've played with just a snare and hi hat No bass drum.Buddy was one of a kind. And that was over 34 years ago.New fusion jazz drummers are articulate more now. I don't want to
get into why or who,s better.Mike.
dont really like most of the channel one suite solos, this one applies as well. the one that stands out as one of the best (not only among the channel one suite solos but of all his solos) was the one played at caesars palace, which by a tragic coincidence doesnt have video recording. taking it a bit too easy in my opinion.
