Just to add insult to injury: when the scandal was finally exposed in 1997 Anderlecht were suspended by UEFA for the next season they qualified for Europe. However, they successfully appealed the suspension on the grounds that it was made by UEFA's Executive Committee, which did not have the authority to issue the ban. Shameless stuff
Wikipedia, Bryan Clough. "Anderlecht beat Forest in the 1983-84 UEFA Cup semi finals in controversial circumstances. Several contentious refereeing decisions went against Forest. Over a decade later it emerged that before the match the referee _Guruceta Muro_ received a £27,000 "loan" from Anderlecht's chairman _Constant Vanden Stock_ . In 1997 UEFA subsequently banned Anderlecht for one year from European competition. _Muro_ died in a car crash in 1987."
Yes, he was clearly onside when the ball was delivered. Maybe the linesman had flagged so there wasn't much he could have done without drawing unwanted attention to himself by overruling him; and it made him look less like he was fixing it for Anderlecht. There's also a penalty he could have given at 3:30. I know it wasn't justified and would have been very harsh, but no harsher than the one he did give.
Good old Anderlecht 🇧🇪 The irony is their chairman would have wasted his money but for the disallowed goal right at the end. They hardly needed any help.

People are saying Anderlecht were the much better side (i agree Forrest were defending too deep throughout the game) but there was nothing wrong with that goal at the end and its a two legged tie..
May well have been a bribe scandal, but Forest didn't help themselves. They defended way too deep judging by these highlights. On play, they deserved to be well beaten. Van Breukelen stopped up to 5 more goals with some magnificent saves.
Perhaps Spurs were in on it with Anderlecht as they didn't fancy their changes in a final. They used to say that on his day nobody got one past Cloughie.... ?

Brilliant timing for the tracking to go just at the disallowed Forest goal
they were probably bribed not to show it.
Very annoying. Of course, anderlecht could have scored 6. Van Breuklan did his best to keep Forest in the game

very simple - the ref was bribed for the end-result, not for favoritism at any given episode of the game.
without Van Breukelen nobody ever talk about the referee....

It was called Fergie time during Man U's reign when they would mirraculously win or draw a match in the 9th minute of extra time.
