Stuart Model Steam Hammer

  • This model is patterned from the modern steam hammer manufactured by R. G. Ross & Son, based on the Rigby Patent. It has a sensative control of the stroke from a gentle tap to applying the full boiler pressure to it's 1" Dia. piston.

    @parkerdjte Air (or spring) hammers for blacksmiths are usually operated with a foot pedal. They also work different.

    Axbent: I suspect you are correct about a two man operation on the large steam hammers but I can remember watching a blacksmith (in my younger days) using a trip hammer with one hand on the controls and the other hand holding the tongs to hold the part.

    @ozserialsurfer Hi, QR still has Blacksmith apprentices, I believe they have 2 on at the moment, head out to the railway workshop museum and do the tour .
