She's definitely a singer vs someone like Britney Spears who doesn't have vocal talent. Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are all more popular/commercially successful than Demi but none of them can touch her vocals. They simply don't have the range, power or control. It's arguable if Selena can even sing IMO... but she still gets more respect. I didn't include Jhud because people would probably say you can't compare pop and soul but I think Demi's definitely up there with Jennifer. They could do a duet and Demi could hold her own.
