  • Dr. Bruce Bugbee and Dr. Marc van Iersel discuss some of the latest technologies available for delivering photons (light) as efficiently as possible in controlled environment agriculture applications like greenhouses and vertical farms. Bruce Bugbee is a professor of crop physiology at Utah State University and President of Apogee Instruments. Marc van Iersel is a professor of horticultural physiology at the University of Georgia and co-founder of Candidus, a company that develops, builds, and installs adaptive, precision flex-dimming systems for optimizing efficiency and lowering the operating costs of supplemental LED fixtures used in greenhouses.

    What a refreshing video, two geniuses not trying to outdo each other, no interruptions, just pure unadulterated passion for the topic and respect for one another! Appreciate it, keep the videos coming please, it is always exciting to get the notification of a new apogee video, and wow we just got two days in a row, that's how you start the week baby

    This is awesome. Clearly innovation & could lower global electric use for home and commercial agricultural farms and homegrows, which is a huge part of many people's electric bill. Also it can help more offgrid small farms use less solar panels and more veg output per watt, anddd help their LED panels last longer

    You have produced another video that I will view, review, and repeat. To saturate myself with a wealth of information I may never fully understand. I finally "get" PAR - PPF & PPFD also VPD & DLI. Not being an academic to be exposed to your research results is very , very interesting (totally new). If I were a young man I would be playing Frisbee instead of doing the required work for your university courses. So it's best that I'm 62 ignorant but willing and no longer playing Frisbee. Was it the cricket that played while the ants worked leaving the cricket out in the cold and hungry a metaphor of my lack of knowledge.
    Thank you for all the work posting.

    Not exactly the right video to ask this in, but where it's the latest it may still have the comments watched :D Can you introduce UV A and B by using a reptile light to an indoor grow?

    • @freedom_born
      @freedom_born Год назад

      Depends what light you’re already using. If your fixture already has IR/UV diodes, you don’t need a UV bulb.
      Also, UV is only beneficial during flower - for only 3hrs per day avg.

    but like everything man made, it requires resources we will eventually run low on and will rise prices until another source is found and made cost efficient.
    I can't believe how many utility suppliers you have, in West Australia we have 1 😂 ironically called Synergy 🙄 2 tariff plans (on/off peak and flat rate) solar rebates per unit returned to the power grid are poor and cost per units continues to rise 👍
