G'day Jake , I was tumbling 2 x 200 gram batches of antique muzzle loading propellant 77/13/10. and one Tumbler became all caked up and compacted firm with my brass ball just rolling on top . the 1st tumbler was light and fluffy ! My thought was I had moisture in the mix so i emptied the tumbler into a electric frypan at 44 deg C or 111deg F for an hour then tumbled it a further 46 hours coming out all light and fluffy { Humidity } . Now all good . A point about brass media I purchased from eBay 20 x M12 Brass nuts using them in place of my brass balls better than 1/2 price and preforming greet
I sourced a box of large but stubby brass screws to tumble with. Worked at a truck shop and apparently way back sometime were used to secure brake linings or something.

I wish the “make my own powder” raised eyebrows around me. I started making my own because it is not available around me and no one will order it. I started making my own the way you do and can’t be happier with it. My wife just got her first deer a week ago using your balsa powder recipe in a modern inline cva. It shoots much faster and more accurate than when using the shit substitute stuff I can get at stores.
You fucking got me with making fun of my paper cartridge loving ass, lol. I don't use them for "historical accuracy" (though it's an added bonus) but more for not having to deal with annoying powder horns like y'all had problems with in the video. Would love to see a video of y'all making/using paper cartridges, and maybe even one on how to make percussion caps? Keep up the good work guys, I always get excited when I see a new upload from this channel!
Always happy to see a muzzleloader video from you seeing a 200 yard shot with bp is an incredible shot to me. being in spiting distence of a target at almost 300 yards is unreal

Everybody is excused during the holidays. Sickness is also a good reason. So no worries! I'm forgetting something... Oh yea, you should "glaze" you powder. (Psst. What does glaze mean?) Welcome back.
What do you recommend using for 4 wing musket caps? I use 777 FFF powder, and the gun seems to like that the most. But the 4 wing musket caps I have are inconstant, even with a clean breach plug and barrel. I have the CCI 4 wing multi use caps, but want to find something better.
Trying to remember, and too lazy to look it up, but didn't the '42 have progressive rifling? Modern replicas can't touch the accuracy of that old style rifling. Good shooting and I look forward to more offerings in this new year. Cheers!
Definitely accurate. You’re just limited by the military sights. If you ruined it by putting modern finer sights on like competition rifles of the era you could probably hit it every time. But who would want to do that to that gem lol? Fun video.
It was interesting watching you try to hit the plate at almost 300yds. On camera, I could not even see the plate when you shot. I wonder how much difference there would be if you had some optics on the gun. I know from watching you that with the right sights you could have nailed that plate more than you did. That Springfield was never meant for target shooting accuracy, it was meant to hit a man size target. To be honest, I shot a Springfield many years ago and the sights on it would have been hard for me to hit that plate at 100yds. lol Phil

I have a 200 year old Blanch and Sons double 6 bore percussion, its a smoothbore and i'm looking to figure out a load for it. Any suggestions? I almost certainly want to stick with FG or FFG, as from what i've read, it generates lower pressures than FFFG OR FFFFG. Any information you could lend would be greatly appreciated, as i have no idea on it. Even the correct bullet diameter would help. Bore is .919.
@@DIRTYHARRYBALLISTICS if you’re planning on running a patched round ball. I would go with a .890 to 900 ball and a .020 patch. I reckon you will have to have a mold made for that.
@Everythingblackpowder certainly, i want to avoid using round ball, but if i can get Accurate Molds to make me some form of self stabilizing slug, i'd do some form of patched design with that. Just cotton for patches? Would old t-shirts work?
Hey guys I used to do that a lot I was raised shooting black powder pistols and then later I got me a Pennsylvania long rifle! But I used to shoot and wide open places even on water years ago the site and see where they were hitting but that was way back then😮 but that's a musket it doesn't even have rifling in it? You at least could be experimenting with using rifled slugs?
I don't know if you buy or mold your own bullets ? but i would've rejected that minnie ball 0:27 and thrown it back into the pot. 1/ you can see the impurities in the lead > drop in some beeswax and stir the lead then scoop off the junk and do it several times 2/ most important for good accuracy is the base , as the skirt has to be perfect and sharp > not at all rounded in places ... the lead and mold wasn't hot enough. ............... minnie balls are the most difficult of any bullets to make.
The problem with historically accurate loads is the rifles often need a load developed for them personally. Also you’re powder flash may need a used dryer sheet Buddy. I bet it shoots great once you get a load it likes and sights that are better than 4 MOA, leaves you no room for error. You said 12” plate at 300 yards so does the plate disappear when you aim at it?
The standard Springfield 1842 was a smoothbore musket but the did make some that were rifled. They call them rifle muskets to differentiate from the smoothbore muskets.
