Please, please, please talk about gray curly hair. Best shampoos to keep it white and shiny? What are its unique characteristics? Do people with gray hair need to do anything special?
A highly underrated tip: go darker in the warmer seasons and go lighter in the cooler seasons if you're one to switch between blonde and brown! Darker hair in summer is more resistant to sun damage in summer and it'll lighten up but won't wash you out. Lighter hair in winter will make you look more lively instead of sickly and you'll already be paler by then. If you're comfortable, play around with cooler undertones in warmer seasons, and warmer undertones in cooler seasons! I'm olive skinned so I have the worst luck with picking a good hair color with the proper undertone so I'll probably just keep my natural color. 😅
Wow this makes so much sense even though I love blonde highlights somehow darker goes better with summer colors and lighter with winter colors that are usually blacks, browns and reds
@@Queen3v3 I've lived in all the worlds. I still prefer having been darker haired any time of year but that's where the undertone curve ball comes in as well!
I like doing this because it also helps you stand out more. If most go with lighter and brighter tones in the summer (an association that originates from the natural lightening of the hair when damaged by excessive sun exposure), but you go cooler toned and darker the contrast will attract people’s eye. The idea that cooler, darker tones are not sexy in warm weather is just not true. Tall, dark, and handsome is a good look all year round, for example.
Mell, in the live next week, can you talk about maintenance between coloring? What color depositing masks or glazes do you recommend for blonde highlights turning brassy? Thx💜 You’re amazing!
I think blonding is best considered a long term commitment, not a seasonal shift. If it’s treated like a commitment, you can tone lighter or darker depending on what you want seasonally.
I have a biracial neutral skin tone with a full head of cool toned blonde highlights on my 3b curls. If my blonde is too warm, it looks too close to my skin tone. Beige and Ash blonde tones suit me far better than caramel tones ones do.
Mell: if hair color is damaging why does my hair feel so incredible after I color it? It’s smooth, shiny, frizz-free, bouncy, silky…but the effect fades quicker than the color. How can I keep it going, like, forever? Oh, I use Madison Reed Firenze.
I am a natural redhead ---- I actually create little dark red streaks in my hair using 100% organic henna : ) it is 2 shades redder than my own hair --- it can be used as a shadow root in the fall
omg i’m so happy i rediscovered your channel recently. where would us fair olive girlies be? would it be considered more neutral? or should we stick to that cool rule? edit: you’re amazing for including olive people, no one ever does! thank you lovely 🥰 i’ve been on my wavy hair journey recently and i’ve been wanting to re-dye my hair and your channel has helped me so much! i’ve been so lost lol🩷✨
As a cool toned dark dark brown lady, the best thing that ever happened to me was going gray! Now that ashy contrast just grows straight outa my scalp. People actually think the base is more black than brown these days. My hair never liked bleach. Nature is awesome
Mel! I used to go blonde until Corona hit and I just never went back to the salon again. Now I feel it's time to go back! I'm warm toned, with very dark brown almost black hair, and now tons of white\grey hair. I thought of lifting my base color to chocolate brown and add caramel highlights. But would it work with my grey hairs? Would that be high maintenance? Mel! Help! I want a change but I don't want to go to the salon every two weeks for touch ups... What would you recommend?
Can you do a video of how we can protect our curls during swimming. I know that there’s products that has sunscreen in there, but I was hoping that you could give a routine or other products that you recommend instead of wearing a swim cap out in public. I know this was unrelated to the video but I’d hope you see it still.
Happy Texture Thursday!! Excited for this I have an appt next week to get hi lights and I'm a bit nervous its been years since I've colored my hair but it needs it as it's too overly soft!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
Blonde always washes me out, so prefer dark colors on me. 😊 Also, it’s expensive. But it was a nice video maybe in the future i’ll change my mind and try your suggestions for cool toned and dark hair ❤
Hey Mel! Totally off topic from our blonde girlies, but have you heard of prose? I’ve been using it for years and I was wondering what your opinion on it is. Thanks love youuuu 💖
I have very dark brown hair and cool toned skin so I know the struggle. Blonde is just way too much upkeep for my lifestyle lol. I have found that if I want to change up my color but not have to worry about all that crazy maintenance I can reach for a cool toned "Burgandy" red. Burgandy is dark enough that I don't need to bleach my hair first, and I love that it looks almost purple when out in the sun but more red when indoors or in low light. And when it fades it just looks like a lighter cool toned red. If I get tired of it, I can just go back to dark brown without too much trouble. That mushroom brown does look kinda interesting though!!
Hi Mell, hi girly, question, what's your take on curly cutting techniques especially Curlsys, where they cut every curl separately in a half moon shape. Do they really help the curls curl?
Hey Mel! I wonder if you would please tell me how to ask a stylist to cut my wavy/curly hair without cutting out my waves. Not a style, but a cutting technique they should use 🤷♀️
Could you please provide haircare guidance and product recommendations for wavies and curlies who are subject to salty ocean air every day? Not complaining about the lifestyle because it’s a dream to be able to see the ocean every day, but it can be a nightmare for the hair… It’s so hard to skip washing the hair - especially in the summer - when one is covered from head to toe in saltiness and sweat (just keeping it real….) Thanks!
I have relaxer and I have a yellow undertone and l dont want to go bloned my hair is a medium brown but I want to be a golden brown . What can I use on my hair to enhance my color and not do any damage?
I had auburn hair as a toddler, and my hair still has red tones. I wanted a cool tone blonde because my pale skin is cool tone. It is not possible to get a cool blonde in my hair. My hair stylist even stripped my hair.
I've got light ash brown hair, I burn easily and I mean EASILY like when I drive or go out when it's sunny for like 5 minutes I turn into a tomato. But my veins look both green and blue-ish. Also, I've tried blonde highlights ages ago and I looked extremely pale, very washed out and I feel the nwed to change my look and go blonde but dont know the right shade for me.
Don't do it. Redheads are more prone to damage than other hair types and colors. Also, so many people try to achieve your color and fail. You're unique. But, if you're going to do it anyway, stay away from bleach or permanent color. Maybe try something fun on your ends or streaks, but avoid anything that will lift your hair.
I’m a redhead and bleached my hair a few weeks ago (for reference my undertones are warm) with a shadow root close to my natural color. Looks great. Be careful with the toner. We went too cool first (probably left it on too long), then too gold and it turned grey, then used a color stripper and left it. Maybe a little bottle blond, or like punky surfer bleach, but I love it and can pull it off. I would pause after the lightener and assess to see what direction to go. Since you have red pigment in your hair naturally you might be pretty close to where you want to be after the lightener. Also maybe start with highlights and see how your hair reacts before you do your whole head. DO NOT do it yourself and make sure you trust your stylist. I love mine - I knew I could cry a little when it turned grey and she wouldn’t hate me lol. Book PLENTY of time for troubleshooting. Just because you are a strawberry blond or a red head doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with color!
I have never wanted to go blonde. I had blonde hair when I was a baby and I remember growing up my mom would let me get highlights but I think it was in HS when I realized I liked my natural hair and I’ve been natural ever since (sans the one Halloween I tried to dye my hair red to be Clary Fray)
at the ash blonde i was about to give and then the rose gold colour came gosh now im back at it wanna leach my hair but im scared of damage ahhh cuz ik id have to bleach it twice at least to get that lightness grrrr ive never bleached twice only once so its scaryyyy
I'm neutral warm though 🤔😂 what are hair colours between neutral and warm ? 🤷🏻♀️ My natural hair colour is a dark neutral brown with some slightly golden brown hues .
Hey yall.....I have a problem that I haven't seen anybody address..... my hair is curly on the bottom but straight on the top, and baby thin and fine. What do I do with with this mess.
I am warm beige with dark brown hair and eyes and stupidly highlighted my hair ash blonde with face framing and now i am looking like a cartoon. HELP!!! WHAT COLOR SHOULD I USE YO MAKE THE BLONDS LESS HEDIOUS
I don't see myself as a blonde. It just doesn't go with my skin (let alone the hair destruuction). I used apps that allow you to test hair colors and boooy! I look weird. Copper is me.
Sooo just leave my hair alone? 😂 I really don’t like the “I’ve been blonde for “this” long” feel. I used to be able to pull off roots with caramel highlights but then the grey showed up.
I have ZERO desire to go blonde. I do not understand the world's fascination with blonde. I hold out hope for the day when I can go red without having to damage... I mean "lift' my hair with bleach.
Depending on your hair color ( if its super dark idk how well this will work) you might be able to just do a bleach bath and it will lift your hair like 2 levels and you should be able to do a deep dark red and it won’t damage as much as just doing regular bleach. I had red for 3 years and the only thing I will say is if you do I recommend using semi permanent red so if you decide to go back the red will be easier to get out but you’ll have to go over it a little more often then permanent dye

I will listen to you because i like your vibes and YOU HAIR COLOR LOOKS GREAT ON YOU

Can you review hair glosses that we can use at home?
Mell knows us too well 😂 thank you for making us do things safely and in a way that will actually look good!! ❤
Hey, Melissa! I just want to say thank you one more time for sharing your knowledge with those of us less fortunate in hair education. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
FYI ash browns are difficult to lift to pale yellow if they lean toward the darker shade…

Can you go over how to fill hair ?? (To avoid the HORRID green that happens when gals try to put dark ash over their hair without filling it first !)

Can we tone or dye over blonde that’s too ashy(it’s dyed too grey and I’m looking for a more warmer or even beige blonde)
