Huge fan of your authentic content and showing raw footage like this is what many of us enthusiasts can really relate to and then having your advice gives us lots to put into practice. Great stuff and looking forward to the next one.

Having had a testing session with my lab today this video was exactly what I needed. To be reassured that training is just like that and tomorrow is another day was spot on. Great. Please keep them coming.

Excellent, although the video needed a lot more pups in the pool action at the end to reward us for learning more lessons from you! 😄 As a Glaswegian thinking about getting a working cocker spaniel soon, the analogy was interesting to note. 🤣 Keep up the great videos, really enjoying them and learning why my Dad used to have a springer and labrador, he was a farmer from generations of them, so like you he knew his stuff but passed away too young at 53 to pass on his lessons. I'd love it if you could do a video on the commands you use, that would be really useful. Cheers! 🙂

Absolutely love these videos. Even after having my working cocker for over a year the training never stops. Incredibly frustrating at times but also incredibly rewarding when it all comes together! Keep up the good work Charlie.

Great video Charlie. I was at the Game Fair at the weekend and watched the minority breeds. Waffle on an off day is better than the Curly Coat Retrievers that I watched. I feel for the people who try to train a curly coat. Watching them and the other minority breeds makes it crystal clear why the Lab is the retriever of choice. But I do tip my hat to the people who chose to work with them, it must be very hard work.

This is a brilliant video. Not just another trainer telling me if I do this properly, then everything will be tickety boo. Warts and all is well appreciated 👏

Good to hear about the interactions handling two dogs and also that it doesn’t go right every time and that’s ok.

Love this video as a very novice trainer of a black lab it’s great to see a very experienced trainer having an off day too. Thanks for sharing 👍

Thankyou for sharing with us a real example of one of 'those' days 😂 so I knew it's totally normal and OK in training to have a day that went sideways, no worries ... but its comforting to actually see the same thing happen with a mature, experienced dog trainer I really respect ☺️

Great video again Charlie, and nice to see dogs being normal/naughty/excitable and not just sitting in front like bookends. Most of us amateurs that train our own dogs have those days when you stop to talk or take a call and the dogs sit nicely in front, and then one thinks, "oh hes not looking so im just popping over here" to me it's good to see even professionals like you have these days and that its nothing that we are doing wrong. Its dogs being dogs. An interesting watch as always.

These videos are so helpful and make me want to keep on putting in the effort. I grew up with Labs and after a long gap in not owning a dog, I decided to get a Cocker... 4 month old Cocker pup is very different to a lab :D. I've taken on so much of your advice from not thinking I need to take her for a walk to not getting annoyed if she decides she isn't going to listen to me at all and runs off down the garden. I've actually ditched my puppy classes which I didn't find overly helpful and booked for breed specific training/gun dog training after watching you. Thanks so much for all the inspiration and advice, it really has changed how I'm handling this.

We absolutely love your videos! We have a pair of cocker spaniel x labs (11 month old brothers). Would we train them as both breeds (incorporating techniques for both breeds) or would you say train them like a spaniel or lab (incorporating breed specific training)?

enjoyed the work behind the vehicle - we expect the same from our dogs and when young, we have to practice sometimes, even after they seem to have it down well. Also, may I ask what whistle you are using - seems to have good volume.

Is there a reason you didn't put your smart new hat on your head until the end? Also, if a rabbit had got up in front of one of these dogs what would have happened? We have hare and deer round here - hares can sit tight and only run when you're virtually on top of them, and I nearly stood on a wee fawn hiding in long grass yesterday ... I'm always trying to pre-empt what might happen but difficult sometimes! Great vid as usual and watching you deal with little issues v useful. Thanks

Great video as usual, what good advice, no it doesn't always go right and you feel a failure but you made me realise as a novice spaniel owner that if things don't go to plan, there are still training opportunities Thanks Charlie

1:35 why get into a fight with the dog that is obviously confused and just tell him to "sit" so simple 😏
