- This is the tailgate sale at the MWTCA national meet in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 2022. On the Thursday of every national meet we hold a tailgate sale which is one of the best places to buy antique tools. Great deals and fantastic finds. On Friday and Saturday we go inside and have a whole other collection of tools in there to dig through. If you want to find out more about the MWTCA, you can go to mwtca.org

Dovetail and tenon saws😮
I got the notification that you were live but was working and missed out. However I'm watching now!
One little bit of interest -- those "surveyors chains" were called "rods" because they measured in rods not inches or feet.Back in the days of Washington,Lewis & Clark, Hamilton, and others they could make the "rods" without the need of specific feet, meters. yards, etc markings. The markings got messed up being drug through rough terrain. Remember they were doing the originals not tying into others' work. Readings were 16 and 1/2 feet to the rod. One square acre was 160 square rods.
When you were looking at that infill plane around 5:55, I was thinking that you've got carving skills, and you've made planes. You really need to make an infill with some beautifully carved white oak, finished with BLO. Unless you got you hands on some other exceptionally beautiful wood. I think we'd all forgive you if you found some walnut burl, or something like that. St. James Bay Tool Co. has some kits with all the precut metal you'll need. I'd love to see a video of somebody making one from their kits.
I find it amazing (@the 54 to 55 minute mark) the guy with the Wood by Wright tee shirt, didn't realize who was there and say something?!
At 3:22 in the video you picked up a plane and said it was a side rabbit plane. That’s what you would think but that small little plane is actually a jointer plane! Trim jointer plane really. It creates a perfect 90 degree corner. Mainly for trim. Still a type of jointer though. Would make for a cool video I bet!!
I appreciated your Princess Bride reference.haha
38:40. 😊
You need to spend more time on the transition planes I personally collect bailey
I'm sorta sad.....I planned to go to this for the last year, but had something come up where I couldn't go. Thanks for sharing the fun I'm missing tho! Sincerely.
that is not what I wanted to hear! I feel for you man!
12:23 Florida license plate. That shows the dedication.
I am 99% sure James got the vise.
yes I did get it. we had people drive from TX, MN, and AZ. I know of one cople the flew in from the Netherlands. there are a few from other countries.
@@WoodByWrightHowTo saw the result on IG
12.35 is known as a quirk router, the Preston version is common enough in England. The side of the cutter with the vee in it defines the edges of the quirk, the other side of the iron scoops it out.
JAAAAAAMES! Now we need a quirk router video. Maybe even how to make one from wood.
MADE IN USA ALWAYS POWERFUL N BEAUTIFUL
The big Tripod at the back @7.40 is a surveyors tripod for a theodolite (looks like he has one in front), I have a very similar one I'm planning on making into a lamp. I know I picked mine up for AUD20 at a Garage Sale, would love to know what he was asking.
The Stanley 200 is a sharpening guide also. I guess it could be used as a scraper though.
You're correct. I only know that because I used to watch a lot of The Plane Collector's videos. That's what he sharpened his irons with. He had a great channel. Sad that he passed away, but I'm happy that his family brought his channel back. I'd like to see James Wright sporting a wooden wig sometime.
Is that what happened to The Plane Collector??? I watched all his videos then one day they were just gone…. And it is back up and running???
@@BrianRust89 , yeah. Someone in one of the Facebook woodworking groups knew him and posted that he had passed away. Evidently he shut his channel down while he was ill, but didn't get the chance to start it back up himself. It's back up. It's just "Plane Collector", with no "the", like I incorrectly wrote above.
Is there new content or just his previous videos?
@@BrianRust89 , I think it's just the videos he had up before.
That Stanley 200 is a sharpening jig.
Hello , excellent video , I would love to visit a place like that , they have everything I have always wanted , and in my country I will never be able to get it , greetings from Costa Rica .
that is hard to find things down there.
@@WoodByWrightHowTo Yes, it is very hard !
Do you often find the chisel planes - the ones often called cabinetmakers trimming planes. Veritas make a modern version.
They are not terribly common but you do find a few of them. I would say there are four or five of them here today.
Hundred of tools that are made even before i was born .Can I buy and delivery to Singapore?
I overslept a little bit and completely missed the live.
Yeah, like Arizona where I'm from.
There are a few places in Arizona. But I would love to get an MWTCA meat running out there.
@@WoodByWrightHowTo yeah me too, not sure the next meeting in AZ would be? Hopefully during the cooler months, or indoors 😆
Hi
$800 bucks? Buy it now and if Sarah gets mad flip it for a $400 profit
$5 turns into $60 bc of checked baggage.
Thankfully I have status with delta so free checked bags!
Please drink lots of water and stay safe. It's hotter than a firecracker right now.
