Yo hace poco empecé a usar éste método, por el dolor en mis articulaciones y había visto videos de personas que tenían el mismo problema que yo, al principio me fue muy difícil, con respecto a la tensión y estaba a punto de darme por vencida, pero me dí cuenta que a pesar de lo difícil que me parecía y de lo mal que lo pasaba por el asunto de la tensión, ya mis manos no me dolían, es increíble el cambio, yo recomiendo por supuesto este método a personas con el problema de dolor en las articulaciones, además me di cuenta que es mucho más rápido que el método continental, al menos para mi, no se si sea por que ya no hay más dolor o por otra cosa, pero la verdad es que con la práctica me he vuelto más rápida que con el otro método. I learned lever knitting several years ago but had to give up because the only long bamboo needles (metal and plastic hurt my hands) suitable for my short frame was way too blunt tipped. Now I can practice with circulars thanks to you. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!! 💕
OMG! I too enjoyed the lockdowns and curbside shopping, online shopping. I’m watching today due to a seriously broken wrist and trolling knitting sites to find a way to knit one handed. Of course the broken wrist is my dominant hand. I now have a plate, screws and a cast with just my fingers and thumb free. Not sure my search will produce a solution but I certainly do have the free time to scroll around. time
I know how you feel about the covid spectacular. I am glad that we are not to go out, I like staying in and not to socialize. I like my home and staying in also I am not crazy about people. Don't like me I could not care less is the way I feel.

It’s an excellent training video for your unique tension grip and gently cradling the needles.. I’m very grateful for this and learning from you. ❤
I saved those videos of SPM years ago and found them so helpful. It looks as if you use your ring finger to carry the yarn around your needle whereas I ended up using my longer middle finger. But no matter, I love this style of knitting and it really does help me hold my hands in the most neutral and efficient way possible.
I need to get some leather so I can do more straight-needle stitching, but I definitely prefer the SPM method of lever knitting. Though from what I'm seeing, it's startlingly close to parlour knitting? I dunno...I may just give up on these labels altogether 😄

Nah, not a genius...just someone who needed to knit more ergonomically, but also prefers circular needles 😉 I hope the lever knitting technique works out well for you!
Some folks call them vanilla...others classic. Sometimes you just have to say "screw it. I'm knitting a sock." Now I just have to figure out what to do with all my old gaming videos ;)

Knitting methods are wonderful because you can try it out and if it doesn't work for you, you can always revert back to your tried & true. Plus, if you ever need that skill, it's there (which has been handy when, for instance, I've had to use continental for stranded knitting - I'm not a continental knitter, but I know the basics) 😃
So i just found out I am a lever knitter... made my first pair of socks last month on the tiniest needles i've ever seen like you just showed. You can lever knit on them. I use my index finger as my lever/trigger finger where as you are using one further back. Do you think that could be what makes the difference? Also i put my right hand over top of the needle and hold it with thumb and 2nd and 3rd fingers. I release to lever then my hand grabs the needle again. I guess I just adapted it to work the lever on the tiny circular as i normally would hold the needle from underneath like you. . I am in love with these for socks. I have always used straight needles. Learned how from my mother who only used straight needles and i don't think i ever saw circular knitting needles until i was well into my 30s. I thought they were the strangest things and i remember thinking i will never use those stupid things! Haha... 20 years later and here I am, absolutely in love with my Chiaogoo interchangeable circular knitting needles 🤣 🙌
Thank you I am knitting with disabilities and I wanted to learn lever knitting your instructions are great. I want to start this year from the top of my clan i.e. family my son is the largest with a size 14 American size shoe I know that size 42 in Germany is approximately US size 8 and that they cast on about 64 stitches for the size 42 so I’m assuming I’m going to go up two stitches per size and work my way down throughout the boys and myself to get down to the size 10 that is the smallest foot in our family that way if one sock doesn’t turn out the way I want I will just give it to the next size down young man and add some more stitches for the next try at a size 14 sock. PS my son and I have diabetes so if anyone has hey sock pattern suggested for people with Diabetes I would certainly appreciate a link or some tips on how to change the way unit sucks for someone with disabilities.
Wait you can't lever knit on those 23cm/9" circular needles? Then what am I doing?! I thought lever knitting was the style I'd naturally fallen into but I do ALL my knitting on those 23cm hiya hiya circulars, I love them.

Good morning I just found your channel and I am a little bit newer to knitting I picked it back up about a year ago and was struggling so I have crocheted for years for the last year-and-a-half I have been determined to learn knitting and decided I needed to learn to knit socks very frustrated at this point but checking out different methods I hold my yarn in the left-hand I'm wondering what the sock that you are working on does this work to make as a knee-high sock I know this video is old but hoping that maybe you'll still be around to respond thank you again great teaching by the way I will give this a shot as well
If you're used to holding your yarn in your left hand and crochet, then I suspect you may be a continental knitter (if not, you may find it more comfortable). The sock I'm working on in the video could become knee-high with a much longer leg and some increases and decreases to shape around the calf. You can most certainly make it with either continental or lever knitting. Hope that helps!
My question is how do you lever knit on large pieces...like an afghan for example? Your roght hand gets buried under the weight! or am i doing something wrong? could you kindly show how you knit a much larger piece...after you have done maybe 10", for example? TIA!
Your thumb gets buried. The rest of the hand does fairly well, all things considered. There's a video coming out tomorrow - March 19th, 2023 - that will show me working on a project with lots of stitches. 😃
I really appreciate the steps you’ve taken to show this. I am a very slow knitter owner can knit in both picking and throwing. I just purchased a knitting belt and long needles Shetland style but haven’t received them yet. Can you explain the efficiency difference between the two? I really would like to double my sock knitting speeds.
Honestly, I have a hard enough time with straight needles without adding a special belt into the mix (plus, being plus-size limits the kinds of belts I can wear). The variation the Yarn Harlot uses fits the needle into the underarm, and I'd say is comparable to knitting with the Shetland method. Most of all, the fastest style for you is one you're comfortable using. You could try Lever/Irish Cottage or Shetland style, and find them overly fussy or tricky, but Continental works just fine. The main thing is to try new methods until you find the one that works for you. 😃

I should give this a try to see if it's easier on the carpal tunnel... and if it enables me to loosten my death-grip tight knitting tension.
