  • On today's show, we explore the possibility of Florida State joining the SEC down the road as the Seminoles and Clemson continue with their lawsuits vs the ACC - and while in Destin for the SEC Meetings this week, Florida AD Scott Stricklin was asked if the Gators would be on board with welcoming their rival into the SEC in the future?
    And could the Florida-Georgia rivalry go from neutral site to being played on their campuses in the near future? Meanwhile, the SEC is planning a HUGE welcome party for both Texas and Oklahoma as they officially become members on July 1st this summer. But did the Texas AD say that the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry is better than all the other SEC rivalry games, including the Iron Bowl?!?
    Also, some huge news for Alabama basketball as Mark Sears is returning for one more season as Nate Oats and the Tide look to build off their Final Four run last season.

    To note, as well, in regards to FSU and/or Clemson joining the SEC, Alabama and Auburn share the same state as does Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
    Also, they are already competing with FSU and/or Clemson for instate Recruits. 🤷‍♂️

      To note, I think the SEC wants FSU and Clemson but won't/can't say otherwise. But the situation you laid out is different. Those were all founding members because Georgia and Georgia Tech, LSU and Tulane, & Sewanee could have added to make 3 Tennessee schools to your example. The idea of expansion is different. In the SEC's eyes, it has the flagship program or flagship programs in each of the states it occupies. And the goal is to keep getting the top program in a new state, but Clemson & FSU are worth altering those plans.

    UF is a pitiful program. Last in the state to win a natty (despite being oldest program), drops Miami in the 80s to avoid an annual loss, a mere two out-of-state non-conference regular season games since 1991 (both losses), all-time losing record to Miami, and losing record to FSU since Bowden took over in the 1970s (FSU was a doormat prior to that). Oh, and Spurrier went 5-10-1 against FSU and Miami and needed 8 quarters against FSU to win his natty.

      That first sentence should have specified football because overall, Florida is a better program, and you know it. There's a flaw in your logic. You don't take into consideration that Florida has always played in a better league. Sure, a one-off game is great for bragging rights. But a team that has to face more top-tier talent challenges attrition. The attrition level FSU goes through vs Florida isn't comparable by the time rivalryweek comes around. Some might claim those are excuses, but it's a statistical fact when you look at 18 years of the most drafted players of compare the size of the men on the line of scrimmage. That's why I believe the SEC is best prepared for the playoffs. I'm sure you'll still think Florida is a pitiful program after this season, too.

      @@tremoore61 My only contention is that UF football has a well entrenched history of underperforming, particularly when compared to its in-state rivals. I don’t see how any point/excuse you make refutes that reality.

    • @tremoore61
      @tremoore61 Месяц назад +1

      @LoCoVANole I'll give you a clear example. If Florida played FSU's schedule this year and FSU played Florida's.... when they meet at the end of the season do you think that would have any effect on the game? I mean y'all just came off a season of losing your starting QB.

    Before the CFP debacle, I've favored FSU to the SEC due to geographic proximity. If FSU decides to bury the hatchet with ESPN, they would be an amazing value add for baseball in addition to football and better travel for the non-revenue sports. The same would apply to Clemson.

    Within the next five years, there will be two mega conferences and all others. Personally, I see what amounts to a Northern Division and a Southern Division between the SEC and the Big Ten eventually moving to four divisions along the NFL's lines. So basically college football returns to the 90s with a hell of a lot more cash.

    There is no good reason for any team to move from their existing conference into the SEC or the Big Ten. You’ll never win a championship. You’ll never make it to the playoffs. Everyone, just stay put for two years and let’s see this thing play out into four major conferences having 16 teams each, with two divisions each. The television money will get handled, believe me. The only teams that will be pissed, are Colorado and Notre Dame. And who cares about them anyway?

    While on board 100% with the revenue sharing, I think you’re going to see a lot of men’s Olympic sports dropped at many schools due to Title 9 requirements. There won’t be money left anymore to subsidize those sports.

    UNC and UVA to SEC! FSU and Clemson to stay in ACC or move to expanded Big 12. FSU might have a chance of moving to the B1G, but I believe that Miami is in their way, as they bring the Miami TV market to the table. Plus, FSU's party school rep hurts them.
