He's absolutely right. What he says about hip hop is like what Thom Yorke has said of "Rock Music."
Q is one of a few musicians out there that still really cares about what he does: he raps about life as opposed to desires (cars, clothes, shit we don't need.)
I've grown very selective when I listento hip hop, but when I do, It's always Tribe or De La Soul.

so true. the music industry is goin downhill. There is little substance in so much of what we hear. the artists are manufactured products of a marketing machine. they are told how to look how to sound what to say. there is so little creativity. so much of it is pure fiction.
i love that Q tip is still himseld n hasnt fallen vistim to the commercial brainless cash machine hype. Respect, honour n staying true will c u thru, selling out is copping out x

As an irreparable B-Boy,I definitely feel lucky to have grown up in the late 80's--early 90's era;hip hop still has a ton of potential,but right now,shit just ain't the same.
Q-Tip needs to get more airplay he's a great artist no doubt.

there is a pretty big difference with having fun and selling out. i think thats why so many people dissed amplified album so much. i honestly wouldn't do something like that if i were him but thats qtip. he was having fun. but another REAL important thing is alot of people never checked that entire album. or they checked it later and said "yeah! j dilla at his finest etc" please...
i think i was the few people back then who was a ie hard ATTQ fan who liked amplified album itself.

No one can deny good music. No one can deny any art that's incredible, but many times it might not be appreciated financially early on. All Tribe's albums are masterpieces. So they should just concentrate on making good art and forget hating on business people and swagger -- just make good music. Focus on that. I'm just rambling.
@technologic21 I know the hip hop scene seems desperate right now, but there are still SOME good groups. I mean have you missed The Roots or Nappy Roots? If only bands like that could break into mainstream.
There is still good stuff. Check out the Strange Fruit Project, Oddisee, Madlib/Quasimoto, Blu & Exile... maybe not quite as good but there's no doubt it's good
