    I like to take a bubble level with me to set up targets. That allows me to get the same cant every time, aligning the crosshairs with the horizontal and vertical lines on the target. You might want to give it a try.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад

      Yep I totally agree. I have them on all my scopes, just hadn't gotten a 35mm one yet for this scope.

    • @H43339
      @H43339 4 года назад

      That's a good idea.
      If I understand what you are saying I think you said it wrong. Setting up targets with a bubble level helps you to not cant the rifle while shooting long range, because the targets horizontal and vertical lines are level and plumb.
      I am not sure if F-Class rifle matches have lines on the targets they may just be circles with a bullseye ?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад

      Yeah it all comes down to repeatability. The more things you do the same way every time the better the results will be.

    Did you use an Leopold IMS Mount? I have this scope and I ordered product Leopold IMS 175961 which is supposedly a 20 moa Mount, I plan on putting it on a chassis rifle.Will this Mount work? Thanks for your help.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад

      While I have use the IMS mounts before on other rifles this scope was mounted with their MarkIV rings. There are any number of combinations that could work depending on your barrel contour and how high you like your scope to ride.

    For my recent build it was down to either this scope or the NF nx8 4-32. I ultimately went with the NF, but now I want this MK5 HD as well haha.

    • @xxshiftlockxx
      @xxshiftlockxx Год назад +1

      @@codymitchell4781 I'm super super happy with my NX8 to be honest. The ONLY complaint I have about it is the magnification throw lever they provide is too long so when you're at 30x-32x your bolt hit into it preventing it from cycling. So you have to either leave it at 28x to run the bolt without issues, or get rid of the mag lever. I'll be creating a custom one that's shorter than the one they provide to fix this. not a big deal.
      For my next rifle, I'm definitely going to get the MK5HD 5-25x56. Good luck with it!

    Is the vertical retical indicator on the vx6hd useful in your opinion?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад +1

      To be fair it’s a cool feature but for something like F-class it’s probably less useful than in a fast paced or low light situation or discipline. Does it work, absolutely...will it get used by most people who buy the scope, doubtful.
      The exact same can be said by the same feature on my two Kahles 1050moak scopes.
      What I actually love and do use a lot is the Zero Lock in the Leupold. I find it more user friendly in a weird way over just a dial bottoming out.

    Just got mine today. Haven’t established zero yet, but noticed I’m not getting three revolutions out of the elevation turret out of box.. to get the third revolution, did you have to zero and reset your zero-stop? I have 20 moa rings and 20 moa rail. I’ll be zeroing at 100yds. Thanks for feedback in advance.

    • @FClassJohn

    Hi, I'm in the market for a scope. I purchased the Delta striker. However returned it because of a problem. So back on the market. Now that time has passed. Is there a scope that you've looked through/used that you felt that was a really sharp glass , with a big max range magnification? Nightforce is looking good, not sure about the golden eagle, sightron looks good but heavy. How about March High master? I shoot IBS 1000 yard competition so I very thin retical I like. I currently use a Leopold brx36 which I really like however I could use more mag.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  3 года назад

      I have to admit the Leupold Mark5 is amazingly sharp but power maxes at 35x. I currently shoot a Golden Eagle, it's amazing for the price but that doesn't mean it couldn't be crisper. I just happen to feel it's a great balance for what I do. Kahles are crystal clear as are NF but Kahles can get weird in the mornings depending on sun angle and for me I saw a little chromic aberration in the NF at times. I've never used a March but heard good things but that's just anecdotal so not much use for you. That's about all the help I can be on that topic. Sorry.

    • @joeldubose5762
      @joeldubose5762 3 года назад

      I too had a problem with sun in the mornings, at least at the range that I shoot at. I have shot in good conditions 2.5" groups. I have a new Alex wheeler rifle that's being built and need to be more in the 1" range groups. The retical in some scopes are on the course side to me for shooting small. I find issues with everything that I've seen. Great glass in some but not a great retical, or other way around. Lol I almost with that I could just get with a scope company and have one built to spec.

      Once I mounted it on a 20moa rail and zeroed it for 100yds I was left with about 75moa. YMMV but I'm guessing more people. would be in roughly the same boat.

    I'm with you on more power like with Vortex Golden Eagle.
    I d pop not like the Reticle either

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 года назад

      Yeah it's tough because I LOVE the scope like I said, but ideally it would have 1/8 clicks, more power and a cleaner reticle. But keep in mind for PRS or similar shooting the clicks and reticle are ideal. My hope is that mine and other peoples feedback will lead to the creation of an ideal F-Class scope in the future.

      @@FClassJohn From what I've seen, March super high magnification scopes seem to be the most popular with the ELR crowd, where 80x magnification is a major asset, where their cost($3500) isn't much of an issue.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  3 года назад +1

      @@machinist7230 Most ELR rigs (designed for 2,000yds and beyond) have scopes that max out around 35x for any number of reasons. I'm not an ELR guy but hang out with some and while there's some crazy attachments like prisms they'll put on them, high magnification actually makes shooting that far more difficult. Here's a great article on the optics of ELR precisionrifleblog.com/2018/08/05/extreme-long-range-tips-optics-mounts/

      @@FClassJohn You're talking about the Charlie TARAC. It's an interesting (and pricey!) Solution to the elevation limits in most scopes. The other solution seems to be some flavor of adjustable can't base
      I just checked, and it seems that last year's winner of KOTM was using the Nightforce 7-35 ATACR. I believe it was also used by the 2017 winner. 2018 saw a Bushnell(of all things) being used.
