- In this video, we take a simple design and make a leather pouch on the JUKI DNU 1541S Walking Foot. We call it amateur sewing because we generally sell sewing machines, not sew on them. However, we have had much inquiry about the capabilities of this walking foot for leather sewing. We tell folks they need a walking foot machine to sew leather and other thick materials. They ask which one. Well, there are quite a few, but for this project we used the JUKI DNU-1541S. The material we use in the video is a pretty thick couple of leather plies. We use a white 69 Nylon thread. And the whole process only took about 5 minutes. Throughout the video, we try to point out what exactly it is we are doing both on and off-screen so that you can understand how to do it yourself. If you're interested in this machine, visit www.cutsew.com and search for the DNU1541. This is what the pros use. If you are looking for a machine that will sew thicker leather, then you may want to check out the JUKI LU-1508. We will have a video here pretty soon on this machine. It's a beast, but for most small leather shops, this DNU will do the trick. For more information on this walking foot, just visit www.cutsew.com...

I love this machine
He handled it well. I don't think I could do it without glue to tape! Impressive.
Yeah, he's pretty talented.
You should apply for a patent on that unique design! Amazing.
It said it in Decatur, cut sew
Did you try suede cowhide on this machine?
No, but that shouldn't be an issue.
I just went with a DX7 - I was worried about the motor. It’s a lot for home sewing
Do you think the Juki DU-1181N would sew this leather or is that pushing it?
Pushing it. Only thin, fashion leather is recommended.

How much
Will this sew leather for holsters like 8 to 10 oz
Possibly. But, if you're questioning it, you may want to jump up to the 1560 www.cutsew.com/juki-lu-1560n
I can sew leather like that no problem with my juki DDL-8700 ($600 with table new from queens NY) using a Teflon presser footer. I use heavy thread also, I forgot what weight it is but it’s the denim kind.

I have also Juki DDL-8700, and I've used it for leather too. I've done also with teflon presser foot. but if you're doing serous work than better to get a walking foot like Juki DU-1181N, or Juki 1560. and of course 1560 is much better for super heavy leather, specially if you work with a few thick layers
When you say for thicker leather the LU 1508 is the better choice . Could you a give example? I don't know if this would be suitable for me.. how thick was the leather in this video.?
The leather sewn with the 1541 in this video is 2mm. We constructed a case with 4mm leather using the 1508.
What size needle do you use on this leather?
