  • Tobermory Distillery Tour and Tobermory and Ledaig Whisky Tasting - Isle of Mull
A couple of weeks ago Jen and Kerry caught up with fellow whisky geek Erin in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The aim was to climb Ben More, the highest mountain on the Island. Once that was done they obviously found themselves at the distillery!
The tour with Olivier and the tasting with Lynn were both fantastic and we would highly recommend travelling to the Island for the experience! There's always a distillery exclusive or two to pick up form the shop!
Have you been to Tobermory? Which dram is your jam: the unpeated Tobermory or the peated Ledaig? What's the best expression you've tried from here? Let us know in the comments!
We do in person and virtual tastings. Follow the link to book on! We'd Love to see you there! callander-drin...

You visited the greatest Whisky distillery ever

Visited the distillery in 2019 while renovations were taking place so there was no tour. But - to balance that out - there was a a tasting in a small corner of the warehouse where 5 or 6 people could grab a seat and try three drams directly from the casks. And that was wonderful. I'm a big Ledaig fan and ended up buying an 18yo Ledaig finished in an oloroso cask. The other brilliant thing about the distillery is its location. You take a few steps out of the front door and you're either walking alongside the wee harbour or you're winding your way down the pastel-coloured shops, pubs and reastaurants of the main street. That's what I call being on holiday without a care in the world. The three of you definitely enjoyed your tasting. Loved the comments and spontaneous tasting notes. That's how it should be when you're enjoying yourselves. Keep up the great work. Hope you'll do some more distillery visits in the future. They certainly bring out the atmosphere of the place! Cheers.

Thanks so much for watching!! Your experience at Tobermory sounds amazing, we absolutely love Ledaig, a tasting in the warehouse sounds perfect.
Absolutely agree about the location too, not a nicer place to have a wee dram!

Looks like a great time! My wife and I went to Isle of Mull as part of our honeymoon in April and had the pleasure of doing a tasting with Lynn at Tobermory! He knows how to host a fun tasting, and sold us on the 17 year old Tobermory finished in Madeira casks :)

I had the worst fishing trip ever on Mull. The sun shone constantly every day and I had to go out at night to have a chance of a trout. I bought the Tobermory Whisky as it was on offer in a shop but I have not tried the Ledaig. To expensive. I will get a miniature. Brilliant video. Only a Scottish lassie would not like the smell of a dram then drink it.

Glad you enjoyed our video! Thank for watching. The Ledaig 10 year old is fairly reasonably priced but a mini is a very good way to test out a whisky before you commit to the full bottle. Only a fisherman would complain about the sunshine! 😂

Hehe. didn't expect a swiss accent :D very cool video indeed! Thank you :D Ah and I actually like this video format. Doesn't need to be high production value when you're capturing a day trip to a distillery...

I think when I did the tour it was a Spanish guy. Did a great job but had to ask him how he ended up on Mull. Swiss guy did make one mistake though as Simpsons Malt in Berwick isn't on the east coast of Scotland, it's about 5 miles south of the border. I know this as I grew up near there and friends of mine worked there. They supply malt to a bunch of distilleries and to be fair, some of the barley will have been grown on the Scottish side of the border. I also did the tour in August 2018 so there were some tours going on. Lovely place to visit and great people. Alas I was not blessed with great weather when I was there and the tour was also a very welcome escape form the rain

'Extra smoky hot dog water' should be a tasting note on the label. You need to come to New York City and try a 'dirty water dog'. These are hot dogs that sit and cook in a hot water bath all day, which sounds vile, but they're the best! The carts that sell dirty water dog are everywhere in the city and you'll know a good one by a line of locals lining up for a hot dog. I bet they'd even give you a shot of the water if for no reason other than to witness someone taking a shot of hot dog water. LOL
