Alec Steele Blacksmith 2022 Развлечения
I'm not sure if Alec was just ignoring Jamie or if the whispers were successful, but the "that's what she said" being snuck in cracked me up.
Jaime. He's, like, 14. Like the rest of us.
I giggled out loud and I'm definitely not alone.
Happened last episode too lol
And the snort.
I just came to the comments to find this comment lol
My relationship with this channel is not watching for weeks and then getting incredibly invested in a project or two. Every time a new episode I'm interested in comes out I get way too excited. Keep it up Alec and Jamie
This sounds familiar xD
So true
Same here though
same lmao
Absolutely same, I don't watch for months on end and then binge 30 videos straight
I really want to see Alec make a Stanley No.5 Jack Plane. It would be different because you would make a fabricated body instead of a cast body. It would definitely be a challenge.
I’ve seen a few hobby machinists make planes from brass. They look incredible.
Oh yesssssss
Project suggestion: I'd like so see a pair of matching modern climbing ice axes (also referred to as "ice tools"). The knife looks absolutely brilliant! Keep doing what you do‼👍
great idea, that would be sweet
Wilderness/ bushcraft /survival kit tomahawk, big knife, fire steel, make char, find flint, if crazy enough make a compass, make a water bottle, make rope.
Jamie's super silent "that's what she said"s were just comedy gold
Would it be possible, please, to have a 1h30 katana video? Or even full viking video? I would love to be able to revisit your old projects in one stand and I am pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one!
We need to see you make your full caving setup! Belay helper and all that stuff
It's always fun watching the 'fumbling around in the dark' phase, and then, out of nowhere, success!
For flaring use various diameter ball bearings and the arbor press. You could also use some removable shims while flaring to ensure there is enough movement.
Came to the comments to say this! You can get pretty affordable ones
I love these non-blade clips. Have you ever thought of forging things like shields, brass knuckles, and shovels?
This has been a really fun project. I find these ones where you make "things" such as tools and this rather than "weapons" to be more interesting because I can make a real life relation to the object
Agree!
I like everything Alec builds, its just so cool to see everything come together in multi part videos!
I don't think I've ever managed to watch one of these so soon after posting it's so exciting
ALEC! It has been 5 years since your frame lock knife series. Maybe you would like to try create something like Zieba or Marfione for example.
That would be amazing to watch you creating another frame lock!
Hi Alec
When sharpening cerated knifes, i have used a brass wire brush to get rid of the burr.
Striking from the spine towards the edge, alternating both sides of the blade. This flexes and removes the burr without damaging the surface, because the brass is softer than the blade steel.
Love the videos Alex and I’d like to add Jamie has been chipping in with some good ideas and I gotta give you props for listening. That’s what makes you so good in my opinion always with an open mind looking to learn new things.
Groovy knife! Now that y'all are starting to get acquainted with serrated knives, I'd like to see you do comparisons of how easy it is to make a round serrated edge versus a trapezoidal or "Double-D" serrated edge like Cutco knives and your own experiences on cutting differences between them.
I know trapezoidal/triangular serrations are easy enough with a file or a cutting disc, not sure how you get the double serrations like on the saw blade in my victorinox, I think that's also just using the right cutter?
Honestly I live this "makeing stuff out of other stuff " series he's been on recently
One tip I've heard when you overpeen the pivot is half open the knife, rest the blade tip on something and gently tap the joint, kind of along the axis of the pivot, so you are putting sideways pressure on the blade and just levering it open a teeny bit. Of course, the whole thing could fall into pieces. But it has worked for me so far.
Another folder!
your own damascus, titanium framelock with a carabiner on the end.
Make it beautiful and practical :D
As an amputee I'd be interested to see if you could make a prosthetic leg... obviously the socket you couldn't but the leg and foot would be an interesting watch.
Amazing to see you make knives out of all stainless steel. You should make more stainless and stainless steel damascus knives.
I really appreciate the move back to knives while staying very fresh. Thank you for the great inspection.
Jamie is hilarious and that haircut makes you look the age of Jamie's humor. He should do a parody video more often.
Jamie is my spirit animal. I too know "that's what she said" 🤣
I GOT IT - This is the most awesome version of "How It's Made" - I was like.... damn, this episode has great music.... and man, he's doing some cool precise work, showing us how things... are... MADE! Tell you what tho, the relationship with You and Jamie gives this the feel of a sort of 'top gear' thing (I assume you know, clarkson, etc). So this channel is like How It's Made mixed with Top Gear (US version Grand Tour). I can't wait to share this with all the people I know.
I think we need to see more furniture for the house. Alec gets a nice house and we get a cool video. Win-win!
Jamie is the real star of this mini series. Lets be honest
How about some forged pitons for your new found climbing hobby? There are many varieties of pitons so you should make a fair selection to meet your needs.
Maintaining your nails is a huge part of climbing. I think a pair of Damascus nail clippers would be challenging and amazing!
Climbing on sandstone relieves you of the need for any nail care! Thought it also relieves you of your skin in a few days.
@@jeffmcdonald101 win some lose some
@@mbedj1974 Lose a lot more than you win in the Blue Mountains! You take more skin rest days than you do muscle ones. The grip though!
He made nail clippers from nails before 😁
@gabohlivjak3902 thanks! I'll watch that and pretend he had just seen my comment lol
I would like to see you do another sword build as the last one didn't really work out. The whip sword would be very challenging I think
Could you make a metal chess set? It would be about a 30 episode series but I’m all for it 😂
The most subtle "that's what she said" I've ever heard. Absolutely loved it! Many thanks, Jamie
Its amazing what final touches and assembly can do - it goes from looking far from finished to looking fantastic in just a few steps (that probably took hours IRL). Nice little knife!
*Important* Just a heads up, you'll need to be careful that the thumb pin doesn't catch on something and open the knife without you noticing. I've seen it several times over the years where someone's knife is hanging open without them realising it. It does look amazing, but just keep an eye on it 😊👍👍👍
I suggested in the last video, but you should try making your own Spring Punch! Or.. Auto Punch? This knife is really cool though, the black rings were a great idea.
Adding fluorescent details into the handle would have been good, for maximum visibility. Great video, thanks
I think those spring loaded ancors that you put in to cracks will be a good challange in the machanical portion of it
The beginning music with the montage was so great that music was perfect
I never thought I could give you advice but, I sharpen knives for a living and the easiest way to remove a bur from serrations is a high-speed buffer at an angle of about 30 degrees. Green compound or just a stiff wheel will knock that burr off and also completely sharpen them, razor sharp. Do it in increments to avoid heat. I always start with the teeth first and then do the flat side until all the burr is gone. Give it a shot! Warning, use a stiff grip and don't hit the spine or it may ricochet!
this is the first alec steele series ive really enjoyed in a couple years. something about alec being back in england with just him and jamie makes the best content
you and jaime need to make another 'spoof' video, you guys are hilarious!
Maintains, repairs and uses tools and equipment that can burn skin clean off the bone, cuts through those bones and make hammer them into pulp. Child proofing is too much, though. Love it.
The montage at the beginning was so freakin cool. Well done on the knife too fellas
thank you for the headphone warning, this is one of the few times I'm wearing headphones while watching videos and you saved my life
A staking tool is what you needed to make. Essentially an over-built C clamp that has a pointed die on each side of the jaws, and uses an acme screw to flare the tube ends outward.
The benefits of such a tool are consistent flare, and finer adjustments.....just a thought in case you give this a shot again
More armor projects, chest plate, helmet, & such.... really get Alec out of his comfort zone
I enjoyed the cute interlude about nord, one of the more clever bits.
That “black stuffs” is called delrin. It’s like a durable plastic that cuts really clean. Especially for lathe work.
That was a fun build to watch.
I would like to see you try to make another folder. This time with a liner lockup and pattern welded steel.
Loving the climbing series, maybe try a cam or pully?
Ooooo welpers might be a cool challenge, especially with the rubber handles, or just like channel lock pliers with rubber handles
And he's able to "do work" without getting his pink hoodie dirty. That's the real impressive thing about some of his videos.
I think you need to make a multiple blade folding knife. Should be a nice challenge
That was epic to watch. I love the swords and larger projects but there is a whole different component to these small, mechanically complex tools.
Oh nice! I always wanted to try a saw cut as well. Maybe trying it out in the near future! Nice work!
Anyone else miss when he really didn't have anything? It was all hand tools and what not? I want to see him go back to the basics and build something he used to love making
Once a hack, always a hack. No matter the tools at hand.
Since you’re hitting up the folders, what about a Damascus Swiss Army? Great work, bro!
Alec, please can you make a Damascus steel tapping wrench to add to your set of Damascus tools?
Incredibly juvenile humor. I love it.
ya, sometimes when machining certain composite materials or plastics, some WEIRD things happen at the cutting end. Heat causes part to expand much more than steel, so cutting tolerances are usually a little strange. Usually I end up cutting often, cooling often, just to make sure I have the right tolerance.
You have grown so much since those early days of blacksmithing. Now you are surrounded by power hammers, and forges, and presses, and lathes, I present you with a challenge. I wish that you could do a video that harkens back to the beginning of your smithing career. Specifically on how to make a coal-fired forge with a proper clinker breaker and tuyére. The challenge is to make it able to be disassembled and stored with minimal space. And with the spirit and wallet of a young smith in mind, everything needs to be made from scrap materials when possible from around the shop.
@alecSteel when it comes to flairing I as a tradesman plumber have a ratcheting rigid pipe flairing tooland it's a great investment. When I do scales I'll use brass pipe or copper pipe and assemble the scales with a counter sink on each side. I flair one side of pipe push it through than I either use the hand punch flairing tool with a hammer on the other side and i have never lost any scales. Look into it may come in handy
Pressing stuff in a vise sometimes with homemade jigs. Sounds like how I "machine" things at work.
I can imagine that this was a very satisfying build. It turned out exactly as it should have
How about making a traditional Opinel pocket knife? But maybe with a slightly thicker blade that can be opened with one hand, I've always thought opinels are brilliant but a little thin and sometimes hard to open.
Keeping with the climbing theme a Damascus figure 8 would be cool
Alec should make a caving Helmet, which would really test his skills because he's not done much armour work on the channel.
I d love to see you making one of the more complex climbing devices; e.g. the Petzl zigzag or any kind of pulley with integrated locking/ progress capture.
A traxion or gri-gri could be cool.
Seams like the blade lock notch in the spine could be a weak point where it might crack/brake.
Headphone warning is appreciated lol
I know a highly experienced sea kayaker who always carries a safety knife on his PFD. He told me he's only ever used it for cheese. Beautiful build. Well done.
I would have liked to see a close up of the finished knife at the end :)
Some gem encrusted scabbards for all the blades!
The music selections are so damn good lately.
Video Idea: Damascus Ice Pick
since you guys seem to be into climbing recently.
gotta love some square turning in the lathe 1:19
This climbing gear is great!
I know this isnt technically caving, but its still climbing, you should make either
1. A set of tree climbing hooks for arborist work
2. A toe clip for a timbersports tree climbing springboard
I would also love to see you try and make a timbersports axehead
I want to see you try and make an assisted opening knife. I think that would make for some interesting content lol
Please try : Quench in GALLIUM! Quench in some metal!! 😉👊🍻
Im a graphic designer and i recently came up with a design for a wedding ring. its a simple design. but one of the concepts for the ring i wanted to see if it was possible to make 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm wire from Damascus Steel to braid (Irish Braid) into a ring) @Alec Steele. I think you'd be the perfect blacksmith to test to see if this is a possible feat or not to pull off or not.
Great job!
Suggestion: I want to see you make a light fixture for the house! Some kind of very cool forged sconces for a patio or something could be cool, too.
Every blade in England with a serration been deemed illegal and a zombie knife 🗡️ . Ridiculous. Very nice video Alex 🤣👍👍👍🇬🇧
Cool.
Next time try building the descending device (with the pulley and the brake/stop system)
I've never heard of an apple slicing emergency before, but who am I to question your brilliance
I don't know if you've already made one, but I'd love to see you make a compound bow... I don't know if it's possible though...
Try 6
You should make a matching set of Chinese butterfly swords with a scabbard
Awesome work as always Alec! quick tip for you when it comes to that rivet flaring off centre, if you do something like this again then I suggest turning a short mandrel onto the end of the flaring tool that is a loose fit on the centre bore, that will help centre the tool on the rivet. Looking forward to whatever comes next!
Well done for the headphone warning 😅 also for burring , flap the blah back and forward over ur palm to move the burr and weaken its hold on the blade. Then a couple of pulls down the end grain of timber will take it all off. Been doing so with knives, chisels and blades for years. Top carpenters tip for you.
I would love to see a copper Damascus Khopesh that is made to be a 2 handed one
Been subbed to this channel for a long time. Would love to see you make a demascus stop bar tail piece and studs for a gibson les paul guitar. I would seriously consider buying something like that if i knew it was made correctly and by a reputable smith.
Jamie did a nice job speaking for all of us, in the “T.W.S.S.” moments. 😂
It would have been nice to see some b-roll of the finished item at the end of the video.
G10 has a lot more thermal expansion than steel does. It makes working with it very tricky when doing precision work on folders and other items that require extreme precision.
I miss the old big knife projects
really dug the music on this one, well done
I challenge you to make the Japanese tri dagger. I think it would be one of the best knives you’ve ever created.
