I just had a student come to me with the same problem. Sounds like a good video idea lots of people are struggling vs. Probably thanks to vibes bronze to gm mech guide lol. We'll see if I can get any vs mech games in the coming days!
Creep spread and upgrade. One important thing in the opening is the scout. The fusion core is the critical information. If there are no battle cruisers , i go ling bane hydra but usually i go muta to force terran to build turrets then transition to late game with broodlord+ultra + ling.
Come and post a replay in the discord server and someone should be able to give you some tips :) At first glance it sounds like you might be generalizing too much. It's important that you know which strategy the opponent is doing so you can figure out a response. Some terran builds will attack at 5:00 and some at 6:30, so if you don't know which one it is it's hard to prepare.

ling bane is always good roaches only good in mid game.

I keep getting killed by terran. I stop drones at 4:30 and build an army, they kill me, same thing for 5:00 and 5:30
