    I love this podcast! Thank you ladies! I don't think simone biles gets enough credit for the cultural change on the women's side. Way back in 2013, sje was positive about other athletes in competition, cheerful and supportive of athletes from other countries, and has any other gymnast ever invited the silver medalist to come up on the podium and share the lime light like simone did in an individual all around Olympic final? Simone is the only athlete who fought the regime whilst still competing, arguably shut down the ranch, amd more. Do we appreciate her enough? Never mind her gymnastics, which i also see people taking for granted. Just some thoughts.

    I’ve really enjoyed watching the athletes cheer for one another’s accomplishments and performances. It didn’t happen much back during the Soviet reign - to see Boguinskaya smilingly applaud Silivas back in the day was a magnificent show of “sportsmanship.” To hear athletes cheering for one another at Worlds and Olympics, despite the country they compete for, is a wonderful show of respect for simply great gymnastics. Can’t wait to see how Paris shapes up. It’s going to be a great competition.

    I enjoy hearing them speak, but I think they're tap dancing around some important points. The exposure and resolution around Larry Nassar was huge. We're seeing more athletes involved in decision-making and in coaching. We're seeing more focus on mental health and awareness and the era of beating up the athletes until they win a medal is over.

    There are many pathways to success in this sport. I'm thrilled to see the elites move to college and find the excitement and joy to return to elite. Emma is notably as one. She may not medal at the Olympics, but she'll always be an Olympian aside from her time at UCLA.
    Simone Biles is not just talent and hardwork, but a global ambassador for the sport of gymnastics. There is a part of her story that the present and future gymnasts can gleam hope from.
    Women can compete with and support each other. Unfortunately when that is not nurtured as part of our culture it is indeed a lost to humanity. I think it is the men, the shift in the culture of USAG, as well as the influence of the women from other countries, like the Chinese ladies. They are so warm. It's a beautiful thing to see them come and hug. I hope this grows and sustains.

    My team right now:
    1) Biles
    2) Jones (assuming withdrawing because of her shoulder is more precautionary than a serious issue).
    3) Lee (would like to see a slightly higher bars even if not her most difficult routine she throws at Olympics).
    4) Blakely (she needs to have another 2 for 2 nights on beam and bars. Having that Cheng vault just made her so much more valuable)
    5) Chiles (She scores low to mid 14.000’s on everything)
    The traveling alternates are Carey and DiCello
    Carey is on the team if she keeps hitting her Cheng and upgrades her floor and gets minimum 14.000 on both nights of trials.
    DiCello makes the team if Blakely and Chiles have error prone trials
    Rivera is probably a at home alternate (along with Wong) because she is just too green especially with the experience level of the other gymnasts.

    • @jenniferkrauss5079
      @jenniferkrauss5079 5 месяцев назад

      I agree with all of this, exactly. A lot depends on what happens at trials, obviously, but if the team had to be picked today, I think Simone, Suni, Skye, Shilese, and Jordan (with Jade and Kayla as traveling alternates) is the right choice. Unfortunately, a lot of really, really great gymnasts are going to be left off the team.

      Jade is on the team only if she upgrades on floor and hits minimum 14.000 BOTH nights. Otherwise, Chiles should be on the team and Carey is a traveling alternate.
      If Blakely has any major errors and either DiCello or Chiles are clean and outscore the other, they replace Blakely. Losing that Cheng from Blakely is not desirable though. Having 3 chengs (Blakely, Carey and Biles) is huge.

    When is someone going to mention the judges being against Leanne? She's being scored harshly but because she's not an Olympic gold medalist no one will even bring it up. You guys refuse to mention names of gymnasts and I get it, you have to see them in person but Kayla Dicello's beam score on night one and floor score on nights 1 and 2, and Suni's 8.7 execution scores are being judged by different judges than what Leanne is being judged by. It's cheating and you have to know it but you won't bring it up. The judges know who they want and I believe the judges are being told who to score unfairly by Alicia, Tatiana, and Don Baker. Nationals wasn't scored fairly for Leanne. It doesn't matter if her scores were fair or not normal wise when Kayla Dicello's beam score was an entire point too high. When it's that blatant cheating against her. And people say jade was lowballed on floor but she wasn't. Leanne was in comparison to extra points for the people they want on this team. WHEN WILL SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGE THIS? Change needs to happen and we need you Bridget and Kathy to point it out.

    • @SabrinaVoineaSStolenMedal

      They will never point it out. We all know it's happening but the judges like Simone's old coach, and Chelsea Davis, Kristie Phillips (who by the way isn't even watching half the routines. Watch her, she constantly is looking down and has been accused of this in the past) And Anna Li, who has been accused of abuse . The judges are doing what Tatiana Periskaya (sp) is telling them to do. That is how they get assignments.

That is how bad the cheating has gotten. I want someone to acknowledge this. Why not Kathy. People seem to respect her. that is why I defend Tim Daggett, because in 2016 while he didn't come out and call the cheating for Gabby, he made it known that Mykayla Skinner was being screwed and had a gripe. Did you know that Tatiana told Marta not to put Skinner on the Olympic team because she would be judged harshly? That was why they took Gabby.

As you ALSO said, women have been each other's biggest cheerleaders in gymnastics in college for longer than anyone, and you both know this. It's the college influence plus a leadership team that allows them to be kind to each other.

    • @joyfuljaj
      @joyfuljaj 5 месяцев назад +2

      I thought that was an odd thing for her to say as well. Of course her observations when she was doing gymnastics might give her a different perspective. I assumed the reason the men were more vocal is because number one they are usually still competing in college so they have that college team thing. But also it's more acceptable for men to be loud normally then women. Once I started watching NCAA gymnastics for women I came to love that team camaraderie and the women have always done that in college. I saw the star change once the college gymnast started coming back to elite like Jordan bringing that energy onto the floor. I'm sure there were women like Simone who clearly are supportive of teammates who may be just weren't really loud and open about it in the past. Now it's become much more acceptable and I really like that change in the sport. I used to not like all the loudness for the men but again once I started watching college gymnastics I understood it. also I wonder if the women in general have felt more pressure because they are expected to win gold and even though our men are working to get on the podium there's not an automatic expectation that they're going to win. I may be wrong about that.

      I agree with KJC. I remember seeing/hearing the men vs the women from 1984 through like 2004. Did the women support/cheer each other? Absolutely but it was never to the same level. Maybe the women weren’t just as loud as the men, but the men were also more used to competing on teams in college AND completing elite. For women it was elite then college and that’s it (not going back to elite). Now women are starting to do college and go back to to elite so they get the seem experience the men had on a Team.
