Japanese officials speaking in an October 13, 2020, press conference urged China to order its ships out of disputed waters in the East China Sea. Tokyo has filed a diplomatic protest after the two Chinese coastguard vessels approached a Japanese fishing boat on October 11 in waters off the disputed islands Japan calls the Senkakus and China refers to as the Diaoyus. Tokyo says Beijing’s vessels have refused to leave despite repeated warnings, and after what is reportedly the longest time Chinese ships have stayed near the disputed islands since Japan declared the territory as under its control in 2012. China, Taiwan and Japan all claim sovereignty over the group of islands.

To be honest, I am totally done for China issues. Have China ever done conquer or do China need more for what, land, power, resources, or empire. Guess what, Great British did the same thing as China did long ago, and it turn out useless because of ww1 and 2. Animeliam The Diaoyu islands or the Shenkaku islands were forcibly taken by the Japanese and in the treaty of surrender by the Japanese, the Japanese are supposed to relinquish it’s claims on these islands and are to be given back to China. The USA took these islands and kept it in trust but instead of returning them to China as per the Surrender Treaty, the USA gave these islands back to Japan. If the Japanese are as honourable as they always portray themselves to be, then just give these islands back to China and there will be no more disputes there. It’s just that simple isn’t it ?

Not simple actually cause China claimed it discovered 14th century thus ownership and imperial Japan claimed ownership and governance before WWII started. The thing is US eventually gave the governance to the new Japanese government after WWII, and the old China Qing by then had ceased to exist replaced by new claimants successor government of ROC and PRC which both claim to be rightful ruler of China. So its a bit complicated.

The Diaoyu Islands were not Japanese territory, they were seized during the Sino-Japanese war in the Qing dynasty, which also included Taiwan. The cairo declaration of 1943 demanded all Japanese territory stolen from China in the first war to be returned. Diaoyu island should be returned.

Some people in the comments are saying "the islands are close to China and far from Japan", but it is more complicated than what you think. The Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands are about the same distance to both the northernmost point of Taiwan and Ishigaki Island of Japan. In terms of distance from area of actual control, China is actually the farthest from the islands compared to Taiwan and Japan. (I don't want to argue about sovereinty issues about Taiwan and the Ryukyu islands, knowing this will offend many people.)
Japan was the invader and occupied part of china for more than 50 years, yet they still have the invader legacy in hand. they shouldn't try to encourage chinese to recall these unpleasant memories, or it could mean the sink of all japanese island

I'm not gonna argue with someone who says something like Kaliningrad belongs to Russia because it simply does. Regardless of its past or anything, Russia has reasonable claim and they occupy it. Japan has reasonable claim and they occupy it. It was transferred back to them by the US, and it was never signed away in the peace talks.
The islands are uninhabited. This isn't like a Falkland situation. But some comparisons can be made. The distance between the owner and island is irrelevant. The legality of their occupation and the enforcement of it are greater justification in this case where there is no locals.

9 dash line or originally 11 dash line came from the first claim in 1907 that disputed the island of pratas which the chinese government was informed by the americans that there were japanese on the islands. after this they (the government) discovered the paracel islands. china went on an expedition to the paracel islands because they were worried japan might annex it, they left and came back in the 1920's. then, france claimed sovereignty over the paracel islands and, nine months later, China protested. In July 1933, while the two governments were still arguing over the Paracels, France also announced the annexation of six of the Spratly Islands. THIS is where the confusion on the chinese part starts, from official documents and newspapers at the time that the Chinese authorities did not know the difference between the Spratlys and the Paracels (proof is that the chinese did not have a map of the area and were using maps American Officials in Manila). They thought that the islands that France had just annexed were the same that China had claimed in 1909. and it went on to more mistakes, from translations to transliteration because it was outside powers that were finding these islands and it didnt help that China did not undertake any of their own hydrographic surveys. so in the end it was just mistakes after mistakes that led to Chinese claims ending up near the Natuna islands when they never even went that far.

Well in the treaty of San Francisco when Imperial Japan invaded China and then lost the islands were left out of the agreement which has upset many Chineses.
Well China never beat Japan in WW2 in the first place (the US did) so they didn’t really have a space for discussion. They should just be happy that Manchuria was given back to them by the US treaty or else Japan would have always claimed Taiwan, Manchuria and Korea.

Taiwan used to be the legal representative of China in the world before 1972, they claimed lots of territories including this island that belong to China because they represent China. And today they claimed these territories because these territories used to belong to China not because they used to belong to Taiwan. No matter Taiwan or mainland China they are all Chinese It might be hard to understand for outsiders but in this problem they are on the same side with Beijing

Taiwan is still called republic of China so they still claim all Chinese territories so about dispute territories and well-being of overseas Chinese they most likely alongside with Beijing, they even refused to admit Mongolia is an independent country because it used to belong to China.
At the end of the day both sides are China even they have different republic and international societies only recognize people’s republic of China (mainland ) as the only legal government.

I think this island was once claimed by Qing Dynasty. After Japan won the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, and signed "Treaty of Shimonoseki", Japan occupied "Taiwan and it's surrounding islands", which includes the Diaoyu-Senkaku islands. The occupation lasted till the end of WWII. After WWII, "Taiwan and it's surrounding islands" were returned to Republic of China (ROC). However, Diaoyu-Senkaku islands were not included, and the island was under US control based on "San Francisco Peace Treaty"... many years passed, during the process of given back a part of US controlled territory back to Japan, US gave the control of the Diaoyu-Senkaku island to Japan and consider it as a part of Japanese territory, which both People's Republic of China (PRC) and Republic of China (ROC or Taiwan) disagrees. Which ends up in this mess in present day.

Welp, some even claims there are documents back to Ming Dynasty putting this island within it's coastal defense line. They claim the first contact with the island is back to 1171.

Again, like I mentioned, both ROC and PRC claims they have never agreed on the Japanese claim of the island. Such claim is not recognized by both ROC and PRC.
Also, when you are talking about Japan making such claim, when is it? And did China back then aware of this and officially agreed with it?
See, China lost pretty much all of its naval fleet after losing the Sino-Japanese war that happened at the end of 19th century, and the Qing Dynasty is well known for losing to foreign invasions before it's collapse... As well as self-isolation foreign policy that cutting itself from the rest of the world.
I wasn't so sure when did Japan landed on the island and made the claim, but depending on the era, it is totally possible that either China isn't aware, or don't have the ability to do anything because of losing not only it's navy, but also all recent foreign engagements.
Anyhow, the earliest lansing I can find online is that the first Japanese discovery was in 1884, I wasn't sure when the claim is made though.

However, you were wrong that China and Japan doesn't exist during that time, as well as regarding to the boarder. First, if my memory wasn't wrong, since that time, the Japanese government were never overthrown and pretty much lasted till today. There probably are many changes within the Japanese system throughout history, but the nation actually lasted till today.
As for China, yes both ROC and PRC weren't formed, but China did exist. Just like when you talking about many nations' histories, they usually won't be limited to the current political power, but to the land itself and people of that region... Just like the history of US extends beyond the foundation of the nation... Which is pretty much the case of most nations I believe.
I think this is especially the case when you considering China, since you can actually directly see that from the name of ROC and PRC, which both are "something something of China".
The Chinese government did got changed a couple of times, but usually the newly formed government will claim to have the ownership of the land that controlled by the previous government.
Otherwise each time there is a change in government, other nations will have a free claim on the land that is in the process of switching hand isn't it? Just imagine during the formation of Korea after WWII, a random third non-Korean nation jumps in and claims all the land as the previous government was gone... Or maybe imagine some random nation claim the ownership of US after the British was gone...
Of course, if other nations making such claim, it usually will simply resulted in war.
In that regard, I do agree with your point. However, as far as I know, this rarely happens. Which I think it is safe to say a newly formed government will inherit the territory it overthrown.
@serbetli100 Yes this issue only poped up near 70s. That is because 1971 is the early US giving the control of the island to Japan... and the issue poped because of that. Inbetween the end of WWII and 70s, this island is under US control. The action that US was attempting handing the island to Japan is the cause of the PRC's claim during the 70s.
Also, if you say PRC's action is only because of the gas resouces, I can say the same to US and Japan don't I? Since 1970s was exactly the time US and Japan made such attempt. Remember, the push back from the PRC's foreign ministry is only after US transferring the control.
I think ROC should have the same stance on this matter, since I think the attitude of ROC is really clear as they already made it quite offical.

Not to mention during 2014, the Obama administration is really clear that US supports Japan, in addition to that, the US-Japan treaty during the 70s was the starting politic event of this dispute... and US was already clear back that time that they support Japan...
