Smallfolk is currently at a 7.0 on IMDb, the lowest rated episode for HOT D. Season 2 has hit all-time lows with 2x3 The Burning Mill (7.8), 2x5 Regent (7.6), and 2x6 Smallfolk (7.0). The lowest rated episode from Season 1 was 1x6 The Princess and the Queen at 8.0.
Why are the writers turning Daemon, George R.R. Martin’s all-time favorite Targaryen, into a useless dumbass of a character who has gone emo thanks to his bad acid/mushroom trips in Harrenhal? I’m aware that’s where Daemon is and it gives Matt Smith something to do, but they stretched his subplot way too long. He hasn’t changed for the better, so what’s the point? Wasted Matt this season.
*Book* *Spoilers*
So when we get to the Two Betrayers and Ulf is going to betray Rhaenyra because he feels entitled to more land and rewards, are the writers going to ignore Daemon wanting to give Ulf what he wants? In the book, Rhaenyra, mistakenly does not give Ulf that. Ulf and Hugh will betray her. If everybody listened to Daemon, none of this would happen. Otto would’ve been killed years ago. Viserys would’ve never married and had kids with Alicent. Daemon has more experience around the smallfolk than Rhaenyra ever had.
Everybody should’ve listened to Daemon but no. Make the writers assassinate GRRM’s work and his favorite Targaryen. Remember those “Thanos was right” memes? That’s basically Daemon. His thought process is nutty but if everyone listened to him from the start, their House wouldn’t break apart like that. That’s what happens after dealing with a soft ruler. The one other time a female Targaryen wanted the Iron Throne, KL was burned.
If you find Daemon too much of a wildcard, then Jaehaerys should’ve chose Rhaenys over Viserys. In the book, it’s actually Viserys vs. Laenor. Rhaenys was already one of my favorites before HOT D aired. I believe she will remain a favorite once the series is over. Rhaenyra is basically Starlight in The Boys S1-S3. She’s Little Miss Perfect for now although Rhaenyra has done some lying herself. We will get to a point with Rhaenyra where we will start questioning her rule.
Otto is such a POS for pushing Aegon because he thought nobody in Westeros would take a woman seriously. Didn’t Alicent and him run the kingdom when Viserys was dying? But I’m glad Aemond wants his grandpa back after calling Larys a toad. That was funny. Aemond is now in full Sith mode and there’s no turning back. Bringing Otto back will make Ep. 8 extremely satisfying. Extremely. Otto is the biggest homewrecker because Daemon could see right through that c*nt.
Women writers just want to emasculate Daemon like they did to Indiana Jones. To quote Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972): “Look how they massacred my boy.” What the writers are doing to Daemon would be like if you take Homelander and Butcher and turn them into The Deep. They’re ruining Daemon like Gunn will do to Superman. Make the most dangerous man in Westeros and turn him into a loser because he’s a white guy like they did to Luke, Han, and Indy.
I’m starting to think Ryan Condal doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s no different than the overrated Dave Filoni in Star Wars. Then Sara Hess and Clare Kilner are like the Deborah Chow and Leslye Headland of HOT D. They hire fake fangirls thinking they know the lore. Sara Hess, a lesbian, must’ve loved watching Rhaenyra and Mysaria make out like that. But in the book, Rhaenyra and Mysaria were known to be lovers. Watching them kiss wasn’t surprising. A W for the LGBT.
I do think part of the disappointment might also be coming from George’s limited material for the Dance of the Dragons. It’s only written in a few chapters in Fire & Blood. HBO writers has to make up newer stuff to stretch the story out. And isn’t the Dance overrated? Targaryen civil war seems like a downgrade from Game of Thrones. Smaller in scope, less characters to root for. And if you expect tons of dragon fights, expect to be disappointed. Syrax never gets into one. Caraxes has one fight against a dragon.
Why does HOT D keep giving us more White Walker references? Nobody cares. We saw what Arya did to the Night King. The threat of the White Walkers is the most overrated thing to come out of Game of Thrones after we saw what Arya did to their leader. The White Walkers were hyped up for 8 seasons only to kill them all after ONE episode and give Arya her fan service killing a superior swordsman. Another moment watching a less trained female kill a more trained male character.
I enjoyed reading a comment on Alicent. She mistreated Aegon and Aemond as kids and is now wondering why they’re not as kind as Daeron whom she hardly knows. 🤣 Seasmoke made Trump’s catchphrase, YOU’RE FIRED, extremely literal. But then practically does a Harvey Weinstein and doesn’t give Addam his own free will. Seasmoke became a rapist and forced Addam to mount him like Harvey did to those actresses. Is Seasmoke racist? Burns a white guy. Only wants Black guys with dreadlocks to ride him.
The two best characters from HOT D are already dead: Viserys was MVP for S1 and Rhaenys for S2. You know who is the best character still alive in this show? It’s actually Mysaria. She’s the one giving great advice to Rhaenyra and it’s not for selfish personal gains for herself the way someone like Littlefinger or Otto would want. Mysaria was the one using the smallfolk as an angle to help Rhaenyra’s claim. She’s a better version of Missandei.
House of the Dragon is starting to lose some of it’s luster. I can understand the complaints that’s it’s mostly slow and boring. Will never be as epic in scope as Game of Thrones. We’re following the same 5 main characters (Rhaenyra, Daemon, Alicent, Aemond, Criston). Otto will return but won’t have much to do. Then the newer ones haven’t been all that interesting except for maybe Alys Rivers but nobody really knows WTF she wants.
Story is getting stretched out but in pointless directions. Writers are making most of the main characters worse to the point that it makes viewers detached from them and the story. When you adapt from a book and certain things are done wrong, we start thinking it’s just fanfic written on Wattpad like what Leslye did for The Acolyte. And then the newer characters like the Hull boys, Ulf, Hugh, and Gwayne, haven’t been all that interesting. Most of the side characters are written paper thin.

I will be generous and give Smallfolk a B- only because Paddy returned. But it was mostly an episode that meandered like Ep. 3 and 5 did. We’ve only had two A quality episodes of the 6 we’ve seen so far. I did downgrade the overall Season 2 from a B+ to a B. Another meh episode from Ep. 7, and it will go down to a B-. Seems like HBO blew most of their budget on Ep. 4. Then writers are taking a few sentences from Fire & Blood and turning it into an hour long episode but it goes nowhere.

Daeron hasn’t even been seen yet and I already like what I’m hearing from Gwayne. HBO turning Daemon into trash and Aemond into an unlikable POS. I’m still Team Daemon but what a joke he’s turning out to be thanks to the HBO writers. Make him more interesting by making him weirder, ruthless, dumber, and more pathetic. He goes from threatening Simon Strong with a knife to crying in another scene.
Do not expect many dragon fights. It’s severely limited in that area. Vhagar fought thrice in her life and we’ve already seen two of them. Don’t expect to see her fight again until late in the series. We have the Battle of Gullet delayed until S3 when that happens before Rhaenyra takes over King’s Landing. Then what will HBO do with the two Tumbleton battles? Skip them and show it’s already been fought to save money? Tired of watching troops walk to castles and nobody is fighting.
Let’s face it, the Dance of the Dragons is overrated. Some of that from George’s own limitations as a writer. Same with Aegon the Conqueror. I’m not sure Dunk and Egg will be all that fascinating either but I do want to watch a smaller contained story. A more interesting series would be Robert’s Rebellion which consists of more Houses than just one’s own civil war. That feels more epic than the Dance.

Ep. 7 should be another slow burn finding dragonseeds. Then Ep. 8 will end up being either the best or 2nd best episode of S2 next to The Red Dragon and the Gold.
HOT D = House of the Disappointment
Still better than The Acolyte. I will still continue to watch it. The Boys S4, Cobra Kai S6 P1, and HOT D S2 are all weaker than their previous season but I will still watch all of them. We probably won’t get a Season 3 of HOT D for another 2 years. Just a shame HBO turned one of the best, if not the best character in the Dance and turned him into a dumb and worthless character this season. It’s like taking Vader and turning him into a whiny b*tch. Oh, wait. That did happen in the Prequels.

I thought about this quite a bit. They obviously know they are sandbagging his character. I just don’t know why they didn’t sacrifice an episode on him. Then move on. They could have shown time passing and then leave foreshadowing for when events pass by around the realm. But really should have given him his own tripping episode showing his time at harrenhall. Then proceeded, this has gone on for too long haha. So boring. Not even a Matt smith fan.

If that is the case, then this is not a wise way to spend money. Nevertheless, they plan to stretch a short story into four seasons, so I suppose they need to milk every bit of the cash cow.

Jacerys has a Targaryen mother. Addam doesn't have Targaryen blood, even if he had, it's miniscule and Valaryions never had dragons
@@themikatoon I don't think that would matter to Jace if he knew Addam was Corlys' son, besides Velaryons not having dragons doesn't mean they can't ride them, they have intermarried with Targaryens many times down their bloodline and it is already implied that bloodline purity isn't a huge factor in claiming a dragon. That's the case in the books as well with Nettles.

@@samgardner4667I don’t have a problem with the pacing, part of the whole problem with the later seasons of game of thrones was that they rushed through the plot way too quickly, it was like this happened and now this happens and this. It didn’t leave any room for dialogue between the characters or room to show the development and motivations of the characters which caused the events of the show, this is why the the ending of the original show was so empty and seemingly random,the characters were behaving in ways that betrayed their development. By slowing down and focusing on the characters the House of the Dragon returns to what made GoT great in the early seasons.

I think the singing could also be a reference to Daeron being called out of the shadows and into war. That he is no longer free as a songbird but must also be corrupted. That makes sense also from Helaena's perspective, since she is so pure of heart and unimpressed by power and politics..

I've been seeing many people complain about how slow-moving this series is. I LOVE it! The slow-burn character-building is incredible. reminds me of the first 4 seasons of GOT

I'm thinking that Rhaenyra and Jace only thought of nobility when they started their dragon seed project, completely overlooking the bastard children.
I thought they were including bastards, but makes sense they wouldn't. Bastards wouldn't be listed in the family tree scrolls, so they have no way of knowing. Thus, the open cattle call. And Jace getting pressed he's not special just bc he's legitimate (despite also being a bastard).

They’re keeping daemon at harrenhall because his character doesn’t have that much to do besides fight aemond they don’t want to speed the whole show up for just him
Then they should've integrated him into the other storylines (even if that deviates from the books), because the current adaptation of Daemon makes for terrible TV.
I wish all his Harrenhall activity had been condensed into one bottle episode, like a miniature feature horror film.
All season, other characters would have heard about what was going on in The Riverlands, but had no idea what Daemon was up to. Maybe the audience saw him meeting Simon Strong and talking to the Brackens, but no one would know what he was playing at or what side he was on.
Then we could watch it all unfold at once, culminating in him "opening his third eye" and realizing what he needed to do. Possibly while Rhaenyra is already rocking up on Syrax to get him. He climbs on Caraxes and gets down to doing what needs to be done, setting the stage for the finale (hopefully something big).
I think that would be unsettling and ultimately cathartic for both characters and audience, the way it's clearly meant to be. But having it drip-fed to us doesn't hit quite the same.
Guess that's what fan edits after the fact are for!

My main complaint about the show so far is just some of the pacing and how much time is spent on certain topics. Daemon in Harrenhal could easily be 2 episodes. Rhaenyra sulking in Dragonstone just 1 episode.
But then the small folk revolt is only a quick scene or two. Jace in the North is only a blink and you miss it scene. Mysterious dragon in the vale? No only a few seconds of teasing
So topics and themes shouldn’t carry over between episodes throughout the season…?
It’s gone too slow after a great start. They slowed way down after the murder of the kings kid. Gods Eye should’ve been this week. Then the death of Rhaneyra in the last episode. Season 3 is the Hour of the Wolf and Coronation of Aegon 3. Season 4 (if they must) is the life and death of Aegon 3 blending into the death of his children and the Coronation of Viserys II. They just need to hurry to fuck up. I’m not sitting through another 2 seasons of filler episodes. Either chop the number of episodes even further but make them longer or get to the point within the time you have at the current episode link.
This season has been a let down... episode 4 was the only good episode. Every episode since has been mostly filler. I even stopped watching the "reaction videos" the past two weeks just because nothing has happened worth reacting too

Personally think as they gave Sheepstealer to Rhaena, they may give Morning to little Viserys, as he had an egg with him when he left on the Gay Abandon. Will make his return a lot greater, though they can easily give Morning to Rhaena as well, as Sheepstealer could disappear as he does in the books given he is ultimately a wild dragon, and not want to remain with Rhaena for a long time. Cannibal also disappears so it might just be the way with wild dragons.
I guess Morning is part of the clutch of eggs, as there were 4, so maybe there is that scene when her egg is separated from her brothers (Drogon, Rhaegal, Viserion)

I think Daemon’s Weirwood dreams have been very lacklustre. Dream sequences are hit or miss in TV, especially if they go on for more than one episode. We’ve learnt nothing new, we knew he wanted to be king since the first episode. You have to be clever with dreams or give the audience something they have wanted to see. Like using Bran to see Rhaegar and Lyanna or Ned younger. They maybe could have shown Balerion circling Harrenhal with a shadowy Aegon, or Visenya reclaiming Dark Sister warning him about Vhagar (foreshadowing his battle with the dragon) or made a really good ghost story out of it with Alys Rivers or maybe he finds out more about the song of ice and fire/ three eyed raven that was forgotten about in GoT.
S*x scene with his mum, repeated dialogue from Viserys, rather basic scenes with young Rhaenyra, all saying the same thing, that he wants to be king, and he runs away from his problems. Better to have him haunted by his first wife 😂 least be funny
Actually Alys rivers was indeed present to tend Grover Tully as the keeper said to daemon in the last episode that the maesters were at the end of their skills and Alys volunteered to help but was "unsuccessful" (wink wink). I guess Alys does have a direct hand into that.
Also there's a scene of Rheynera having feast with all the dragon riders including who have successfully claimed a dragon (if anyone missed).

The idea of where Aemond could be going in Vhagar I think is the simplest answer. If Raenyra heard about Sea Smoke and a new rider, it is also possible that Aemond does too in the next episode. Aemond also could have heard that Raenyra was outside of the castle looking for the new dragon rider and Sea Smoke and Aemond is trying to jump at the opportunity of killing her and maybe even Seasmoke or bringing Seasmoke to his side.

Master Norren stated that Daemon “doted on Nettles as a man would his daughter”, that doesn’t confirm she’s his actual daughter or that Norren assumed them to be related. He is also the only person in fire & blood who suggested a “paternal” - like relationship between the two.

One issue I am having with this season is some characters it’s as if they don’t know what to do with them, I’m looking at u daemon, also at u jace… that Harrenhal plot has overstayed its welcome. One would assume, Rhaenyra would involved her son & heir in all her doing especially see she doesn’t want him partaking in active field duty..

cannibal was apart the war in the books but mostly as a vulture that would show up after battles to feast on the dead soldiers,horses and dragons, only real *fight* we see him involved in is when he shows up to eat the bodies of several dead dragon seeds that got roasted when they tried claiming sheep stealer, cannibal and sheep stealer get into a brief confrontation but sheepstealer quickly submits and leaves letting cannibal eat the bodies and wounded people that weren't able to run away when cannibal showed up, other then that theres nothing regarding cannibal fighting any other dragons, only i can other thing i can think of is that the books mentioned a few dragon seeds may have set out to his lair to try and claim him but none returned to tell the tale but no one witnessed if that actually happened and was just a rumor.
