    When Mo'Nique was out there saying the EXACT SAME THING all the black women should have rallied behind her. They let her stand out there on her own and look crazy. Also take your own money and write and produce your OWN stuff.

    • @erinnmjones
      @erinnmjones 9 месяцев назад +34

      She did that with Proud Mary…you have to have a lot more than means to produce your own projects and for many, it takes multiple projects before something is successful. It’s easier said than done when your resources are limited. For most actors/actresses that produce movies on their own, if it’s not a success the first time around, that’s years worth of income that they’ll need to recoup before trying again. As far as Mo’Nique is concerned, I think it had a lot to do with her approach than anything. She was wanting black actors to stand behind her but she called out specific names, so it came off as personal. It would’ve been better to approach it as an overall problem across the board in Hollywood…in my opinion…

      Right! They were quiet as a church mouse. If Black folks would have rallied behind her. The movement would’ve made history. Not just for Black celebrities. Middle class/working poor as well. Sadly, The slavery mindset will continue to be our downfall.

    • @filmadcamp1512
      @filmadcamp1512 9 месяцев назад

      @@erinnmjones She didn't write and fund Proud Mary. And that's not even types of film I'm talking about. Films like Good Will Hunting, Fruitvale Station, Moonlight, Birth of a Nation, Juno, Monster's Ball.... even this year's horror/comedy "The Blackening". A lot of really good films and series that are sold afterwards, are shot out of pocket. Karreuche Tran has several Emmys from an online series she helped produced. Issa Rae broke into the business from an online series that she produced out of pocket called "Awkward Black Girl". This then provided her with the budget (means) to produce numerous TV Shows that have allowed her to provide opportunities for other actors and writers. These include the very popular "Insecure", "The Rap Game" and "The Black Lady Comedy Sketch Show". That's just the surface.
      I don't agree with Mo'Nique's tactic of badgering industry producers and I said the same about her producing her own stuff. But on her point about money, they could have rallied behind her on that point, or at the least highlight their issues about the black women's pay disparity without getting involved in her personal vendetta. The same time Mo'Nique was talking they should have said something on their pay experience as well. Mo'Nique actually mentioned Taraji in her plight. But everyone was silent.

She works in a multi billion dollar industry where she’s see ppl doing the SAME job making 2-4x more money, not having to audition 3-4x for roles while Chalamet didn’t do anything for Wonka, and then told that she (and black ppl
    In general) won’t translate to overseas audiences. It’s about fairness and she’s proven she’s talented and bankable. Why should she be quiet about unfairness? By that logic, working class ppl shouldn’t fight for equal pay, unions or benefits either. Fight on Taraji!!

      Shes upset because her community never supports her movies and without support she can't raise her asking fee... In order for any actor or movie star to receive the big bucks, said actor needs to have consistent success at the box office.. Taraji was the star of 4 back to back box office bombs recently.. Proud Mary, What Men Want, Acrimony and some movie in which she starred opposite of actor Sam Rockwell... She had some false starts in the past with films such as No Good Deeds which was a low budget thriller from Sony/Columbia.
      I think that movie grossed about $35 million but it cost about $15 million to produce.
      Halle Berry was smart way back in the early 2000s. Halle knew it was good business to line herself up with a super hero franchise and hope for box office success.. During that period, Halle had enormous box office success with Die Another Day and those X-Men movies. She had some mild success with a few films in which she was the lead.. Because of this success she received a reported $13 million for Catwoman.. When Catwoman bombed at the box office, Halle's asking price dropped but she continued on. She helped her visibility by continuing to be a spokesperson for Revlon and appearing on the covers of Vogue magazine..
      You gotta get to the top..
      Maybe Taraji needs a new agent?
      Timothee has a huge fan base of young females who are showing up to see him in Wonka. If Wonka and the next Dune movie prove to be huge box offices success, Tim can raise his asking price!!!

    After reading these comments. Y’all don’t know this but black women work 10x harder in the entertainment industry. Taraji was making $175,000 episode and Terrence was making $325,000. And he complaining about his pay. 😂 She was the main character on the show and the views was higher than big bang theory. She would have to make 6 episodes of empire to make one episode of big bang theory salary. Angela Bassett makes $450,000 per episode on 9-1-1 make her the highest paid black women on television in 2022 😒while white women was fighting for $600,000 -$1 million back in 1998. Black women never get treated right in television industry. And they both was on top tv shows in America.

      Don't be mad at him. The guy from house of cards was making double both their salaries COMBINED plus more per episode and yet empire had triple the viewership.
      On top of that CCA who is the management company for both of them was contracted I'm at a third of what they were making versus the traditional 10-15% of typical agents.
      Terrance Howard deserved to make more because other male actors who were the Lead of their series were hitting a million an episode with none of the numbers.
      Taraji as well deserves a huge salary because as the lead actress of a hit series she should be paid her value.
      And before empire she was on Person of Interest as the 3rd Billed and Female Lead. The show was hitting 10 to 14 million per episode. After her character was killed in the third season of Person of Interest lost millions of viewers- because her character Carter was just that Good.
      She should be paid for every penny that she brings to the table.
      Black actors who hit the same numbers as white actors don't see a fraction of the pay

      Also, we don't know if she's made bad investments,do we? The avg yearly salary of the avg actor is $26,000. She's doing better than the average.

Absolute shame and disgrace that at this level and stage of her career that she along with other black actors still have to fight for bare minimum when they’ve already proven they can command films successfully with high box-office turnout while their wyte counterparts continue to be lauded and lavishly rewarded even when their projects fall flat. These studio heads and execs are being exposed for their biased biogtry. Keep ur head up sis - they won’t break your soul!

    As a native Washingtonian, Latina, I hold a special place in my heart for Taraji. She (unlike most celebrities) got her degree in engineering and went for acting. I was told by the elder aunties growing up I would have to work 3x harder to just be noticed. They just had two big Hollywood strikes that froze Hollywood and they still demand more from their actors ($, resources, time). I'm so GLAD Taraji has something else to fall back on when Hollywood is giving her bull. Always improve yourself and have an exit strategy ❤

    Taraji is an awesome actress who is able to play in various roles. I can understand why she is frustrated and hurt. It must be extremely difficult to watch other actors get paid more for less effort just because who they are. I pray she hangs in there a little longer before she decides to quit acting. 🙏 ❤

    She has always presented herself to be a sweet soul and I believe her conviction here 100%. Ladies before her has said things like this but hearing her and feeling the truth and sincerity behind it, it just hit different from her. If you going to be working in that industry, it should be fair. We deal with it on our non acting jobs from companies who don't want to pay us fairly. It is all across the board in different work areas. She has worked hard for herself, family and others, but for us too because she entertain us and help the studios gain money. I hope there can be an initiative one day where many of the black actors, directors, producers and writers can come together and formulate a plan to build their own hollywood that include studios, production companies, stocks and working with theaters. We are the culture that everyone follows and we are what hollywood NEEDS. Let take our talent and business elsewhere and that means starting it ourselves.
