i'm impressed at the quality of this channel, much appreciated. and i very much like the fact that you put all the sub-topics of photosynthesis in the description, very helpful!
Good question! Magnesium ions have a few roles in plants and we don't go into any specific detail at GCSE or A Level. I imagine the Biochemistry is too complicated. Magnesium ions are an important part of a chlorophyll molecule and without it, chlorophyll canmot 'trap"the energy from the sun. Magnesium ions can enter a plant via the roots (dissolved in water ) into the xylem and magnesium ions are also found in phloem. The soil could be deficient in magnesium but in this question it hints that the aphid is consuming some of the magnesium ions-therefore leading to the deficiency. However, you don't need to know all of this to answer the question. If you do a degree in Biochemistry then you may learn this in more detail there. Great question though! 😊
Hello! This video was made to fit the AQA examboard but if there are any differences between the exam boards it won't be by much. This video should help but just double check your specification for minor differences 😊.

Thank you! You are very kind 😊 Glad you found it useful 😊
For the last question, why is there a lack of chlorophyll? Or in other words what effect does magnesium have on chlorophyll?

because chlorophyll has a green pigment and the plant has gone yellow so therefore isnt green and must lack it
Is this edexcel
