Instead of being very concerned abut the sugar content of fresh healthy fruits I urge people to become very concerned about the contents of their pellets. Soy, corn and wheat have no business in a guinea pig diet considering the amount of pellets consumed. Now THAT is a huge reason why pigs gets sick, develop tumors and general repression of their immune system. , not the fresh fruit

In my experience most guinea pigs much prefer vegetables to fruit, so it just seems like it would be very hard to really overfeed them fruit. Unless you are doing dumb things like just feeding a whole banana instead of a salad for dinner or something. If you're just mixing in a few berries or slices of apple it seems like it'd be almost impossible to overfeed them fruit since they'd still naturally gravitate towards the salad anyway.

She gets a strawberry in her salad at breakfast and not every night but most nights I drink a tea made from boiled banana and I cut the the ends off for piggy, she loves banana peels and the whole house smells like banana bread when I boil them so she knows she’s getting some and is very impatient lol. She also loves the little cutie oranges 🍊 they’re small mandarin oranges so I just cut one in half and make sure there’s no seeds, I don’t usually peel any fruit because she eats the whole thing and the peels have tons of vitamins and nutrients that’s good for them. She loves apple chunks. She has greens everyday and probably every other day she has fruit in with her greens. She loves it!

Depends on whether your piggy has healthy poops. When my boys had a yeast infestation, it took over 2 months to figure out a healthy diet and the right kind of medicine. What ultimately helped was a diet low in sugars, moderate amount of veggies, fresh leaves of bamboo and blackberry plant and orally given probiotic bacteria mixed in vitamin C syringe. Yeast needs sugar to thrive, so you want to make sure to "hunger" it. My boys don't really care that much about fruits, but I enjoy feeding them a piece of all different kinds to test their reaction. One piggy likes to eat mango, the other chatters his teeth at me in disgust and runa off. Both of them like banana though 😆

To see you actually tell me how much banana I can give at a time was so surprising because I was only giving them probably a pea-size piece of banana and peel or only one blueberry to each pig. Now I don't have to feel so bad for giving them an extra blueberry or a little more of my fruit.

My pigs are wheeking their song from the babies. Mine prefer the peel to the banana. Apple/pear are ok. Berries are loved. Orange section is ok, but not a favorite. Kiwi is very approved. Veggies are strongly preferred however. Must eat our lettuce and pepper before desert.
Dried fruit is higher in sugar by weight due to the water loss. So the sugar becomes more concentrated.

it's thanks to you that I learned I didn't have to peal the banana for them.
when I adopted Charlie, he didn't know veggies and fresh fruits. only pellets and dried apple... I switched to fresh apples and tried to introduce him to vegetables that had a texture not too far from these (by this I mean not leaves, because it was a big no no). later, when he was bonded with his young silly friend, he realized he had to be quick to get things first and developed a taste for everything.
yet, the thickest part of endives, celeri branches and fennel are still his favorites. and oh the joy when a piece of fresh apple is at the menu ! : D

Oh i was among the first to started telling people that acid foods and fruits do not cause sores on the lips and mouth. That is caused by Cheilitis (I have more vids on the subject) Cheilitis is usually caused by food that is stuck at the gum line and starts to ferment there causing an increase of fungal and bacterial activity that may and often will cause mouth sores. I am also not a fan of giving guinea pigs synthetic vitamin C and will only supplement pigs if they are sick. All their VitC needs need to come from their fresh diets. Just "throw" them in together and watch the interactions. Make sure your cage is big enough to handle this many piggies and make absolutely sure the male is sterile before adding him to the girls.

Are there some guinea pigs that just don't get along with others? I have always heard that they need to live in pairs or greater? Are there some that just do better on their own?

no matter how much food you put infront of them, they’ll always prefer eating their own poop

Says: everything in moderation; gives us: two babies so sweet you could get diabetes instantly from them ;D
About the banana peel: don't know how it is in the US, but here in Europe i would be careful, bc the peel is normally treated with pesticides and other stuff. I'm not sure even the organic ones are treated much different, bc we people normally don't eat the peel and therefor the regulations about this might be not so strict.
