    I once heard “the difference between a religion and a cult is what happens when you try to leave.” That take the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints off the cult list.

    This comment is for David. David if you are just looking at genealogy as a who begat who thing, it won't be very interesting. If you learn about your ancestors stories that would change everything. Learn about their struggles, their accomplishments. What they did, where they went, what they liked, how they felt, how it all led to you. Then it becomes interesting.

    I would disagree with you guys - atheism is absolutely a religion. I would say agnosticism isn't a religion, because their statement of belief is that they don't know. But a religion is a system of belief about a higher power, afterlife, purpose, etc that determines how someone behaves, and atheism is exactly that - an active belief that those things DON'T exist. They even "preach" about how everyone else should leave their foolish traditions and join their group.

      @@ashagumpinger5052 It is really a personal choice because caffeine is addictive and having any kind of addiction can take away your ability to make certain choices. Personally, I don't really like soda but when I do have soda I choose Pepsi or Coke because I like them the best, obviously both have caffeine in them. ANYWAYS to your question, it is up to every person to do what they want but I think we dont drink caffeinated sodas very often or not often enough to have an addiction like someone might have with coffee. I do wish the channel would explore the church's treatment of LGBTQ people. Hatred may be the wrong word, but for me funding Prop8 campaigning, the LGBT parent baptism policy and the exclusion from many important aspects of family life for LGBTQ people is so devastating to so many. I know so many who have left the church because of it.

    • @davidsnell2605
      @davidsnell2605 6 лет назад +5

      Anna, it's an extremely tough topic, but an interesting one. Unfortunately it's so hard to have a real discussion about it without people on both sides of the issue getting super triggered (especially online). But here are some questions I try to answer in my head when thinking about the issue: Is it possible to disagree with someone's decisions without hating that person? (Of course, YES). How do we stand up for our beliefs without appearing discriminatory or hateful towards those that believe differently? How do we stand up for what we believe to be the most important social unit on earth without infringing on the free agency of others? I think even church leaders have admitted that they haven't treated (or understood) this topic as well as they should have in the past, and it's entirely possible that some decisions have simply been wrong (not my place to judge, but mistakes happen), but I think we're learning how to answer these questions over time. Anyway, just some thoughts.

    • @aubreegittins9271

      I don’t pretend to have all of the answers. I just want to comment on the policy of not allowing children of LGBTQ parents to be baptized. The church obviously values family above almost anything. I think of this policy as an act of mercy. Why put children in a situation where they feel like they have to choose their religion or parents. Not that they would have to choose, but there’s no doubt that that would cross their mind. Children’s minds are not developed enough to process through situations like that. It’s not fair for the child and the child’s best interest should be considered above anything else.
      Also, it’s not exclusive to LGBTQ. It’s also relevant to children who’s parents are polygamists. Parents who aren’t active and don’t have an interest in the church also have the same consideration.
      A decision like baptism comes with much higher responsibility and if the church agreed to baptize someone who lives in a home where the child has to deal with antagonism toward their beliefs, that’s setting a child up for immediate failure.
      Does this mean the child can’t come to church? Absolutely not! Come, learn. I hope people can see this policy as it is, an act of mercy and not a decision made out of hate.

    I enjoyed this segment! I am having tons of fun since I discovered your channel today! The cult thing is just simply ridiculous! Why the third most hated? I have an opinion on that; it comes from a Filipino proverb that says, "Binabato ang may bunga! Which translates as those who have good fruits are the ones who are thrown stones at! Or if you take it in a long literal sense, trees who bear fruit are the ones being thrown stones at because they want to get that fruit! My apologies for being redundant; just not happy about being the third most hated!
    Just like Lehi was anxious to give the fruit to his family in his dream which was prophetic in every sense of the story! Please read the Book of Mormon to learn more of Lehi!

      There will be two great works for members of the Church during the Millennium: temple work and missionary work. Temple work involves the ordinances that are necessary for exaltation. Many people have died without receiving these ordinances. People on the earth must perform these ordinances for them. This work is now being done in the temples of the Lord. There is too much work to finish before the Millennium begins, so it will be completed during that time. Resurrected beings will help us correct the mistakes we have made in doing research concerning our dead ancestors. They will also help us find the information we need to complete our records. (See Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954-56], 2:167, 251-52.) - www.lds.org/manual/gospel-principles/chapter-45-the-millennium?lang=eng

      Joseph Smith said something to the effect of, 'they are judged as if they were presented with the opportunity, what would they have done." Wish I knew it better to direct you to the exact quote, but God judging us on the intent of our hearts is a fairly foundational doctrine to most Christian sects.

    • @davidsnell2605
      @davidsnell2605 6 лет назад +7

      I'm not sure how familiar you are with LDS doctrine, but there's a great part of God's plan that we call the Millennium, which is a period of peace after the 2nd Coming of Christ (before the final judgment) during which time He will personally be in charge here on earth. There will be a ton of vicarious ordinances that get done during that period of time, and I assume that anyone who slips through the cracks right now will definitely be covered at that time.

There are actually some scriptures in the Bible that I think are foundational to the topic, such as Revelation 3:21, John 17:21-22, and Romans 8:17. Then we also have our own scriptures on the topic, such as Doctrine and Covenants 76:50-62.

I have an idea why the Mormons would be amongst the top hated religions-the public's understanding is that splinter groups are included in the definition of Mormon including the FLDS headed by Warren Jeffs and other polygamy/under age marriage practising groups which there are many eg Apostolic United Brethren, Kingston group etc. There are many disturbing realities and criminal practices which occur within these churches I will not mention here but do your own research. All this would explain the public's distrust of 'Mormons' apart from this I can't see any reason to hate on Mormons. PLEASE do a video on Mormon splinter groups, offshoots and sects it'll be educational and eye opening. Keep up the good work!!

    • @Dustin_McNab
      @Dustin_McNab 5 лет назад +1

      Why do you think it's true? I've read those passages and nothing in them suggests they're metaphorical. Plus, the Bible never mentions a skin of blackness, metaphorical or otherwise. Why would you believe God would do that when nothing in the Bible suggests he treated people that way? For that matter, why would you believe in a God who allowed a complete apostasy to happen? People were willing to die for their faith in God, yet God let the true church get wiped out? That's the same God who performed powerful miracles and plagues many times in the Bible, yet he had to wait 1700 years for humans to develop religious liberty laws? The Mormon "God" acts nothing like the true God of the Bible.

Under those conditions, is it probable that the darkened skin is simply sunburn, as a byproduct of immodesty?

    • @Dustin_McNab

      This answer has always baffled me. In the Bible, God did many powerful miracles and plagues. There's many stories of God protecting prophets in the Old Testament and the Apostles in the New Testament. God turned a tribe of nomads into a superpower nation and he made it very clear many times that it was by his power, not human power.
      But Mormons believe God didn't preserve the early church for more than a generation. They believe God waited for human politicians to come up with religious liberty laws before he restored the church. That doesn't sound like the one true God of the Bible. How is the Mormon God any different than wood or stone gods that rely on human power? Why should anyone follow such a weak god?

    • @robertrosskopf4641
      @robertrosskopf4641 5 лет назад

      @@Dustin_McNab In LDS history, God has done many powerful miracles and given many great revelations and prophecies. Miracles are when God interferes with human history. Everyone remembers Jesus for the miracles, but Jesus couldn't always do miracles. He could only do miracles when there was sufficient faith. He didn't heal all of the blind people, or all of the lame, or raise everyone from the dead. And the mood very quickly sours after Jesus ascends to rule at the side of God; the members of his church are persecuted almost to extinction, the apostles are killed one after another, and the church is branded as a cult. It is dying from within as much as without. John reports in John 1 that it is the last hour, and that the anti-Christ are everywhere. Clearly, the final curtain is falling. It isn't unexpected. Both an apostasy, and a restoration are prophesied by the apostles. They don't even bother to buy land for chapels.
      The start of the restoration is the publication of the Bible. By itself, the publication of the Bible was a great miracle. It was an illegal act, and those that took part became enemies of the church. But it was necessary for people to read the Bible in order to gain faith in God. It was the publication of the Bible that led people to escape the brutal rule of the church, and find a land where they could worship God according to the dictates of their own hearts. The discovery of America was a miracle. Columbus testified that it was the Holy Spirit that led him. So God is doing his work every step of the way. He doesn't wait for 1830, but sets the scene where the truth can be restored.

    • @Dustin_McNab
      @Dustin_McNab 5 лет назад

      @@robertrosskopf4641 1. The early church was facing persecution from outside the church and false teachers from within, but many people were still willing to die for their faith in Jesus. Why wasn't that enough faith?
      2. If God needed the apostles alive to continue the church, why didn't he protect them? God sent 10 plagues to Egypt to free his people, protected his prophet with an army of angels and had pagan armies defeat themselves. Are you suggesting that same God either could not or would not protect the Apostles? Or are you saying the Apostles themselves didn't have enough faith?
      3. The apostles talk about an apostasy, but they never said the WHOLE church would fall away. None of the passages that talk about a restoration suggest they're talking about restoring lost doctrine.
      4. The God of the Bible didn't need to use slow, human methods to set the scene. The publication of the Bible may have been a miracle, but true faith in God thrived plenty of times without it. There was no religious freedom in the Old Testament, but that didn't stop God from turning a tribe of nomads into a super power nation for him. You make it sound like God wasn't able to restore the truth during the early church. Why not? If your god is unable to do something as simple as that, then you're not following the one, true God of the Bible.

    • @robertrosskopf4641
      @robertrosskopf4641 5 лет назад

      @@Dustin_McNab Wow! That is a lot to digest. Those are questions I have never heard before, and too many to adequately address. But they are very thought provoking.
      Why did God wait 400 years to free the Jews from Egypt? Didn't they have enough faith to enter Palestine immediately after all those miracles? Couldn't God protect them against Babylon? And Persia? And Rome? They went from a nation to wandering gypsies very quickly.
      And why didn't God show his power in all nations? Why just Israel?
      And why did the Jews have to give up polygamy in 1100 AD? Why didn't God simply fight their enemies, so they could follow their traditions in peace?
      On the other hand, the LDS were persecuted severely and yet saw many miracles and were preserved time and time again. The wrath of God sent their enemies running at Fishing River.
      Utah faced off the US Army in the Utah war, with only a hundred men, and the US army blinked. The church that everyone hated is now in 98% of the countries of the world, and numbers more than the Jews. And they have a living prophet that talks to God. Who can explain it?
      And of course the Book of Mormon is a miracle that defies all explanation.
      It seems to me that God has things to teach us, and we are slow learners. And they aren't the things we want to learn.

    • @Dustin_McNab
      @Dustin_McNab 5 лет назад

      @@robertrosskopf4641 Ignoring my questions and moving on to other questions doesn't really support your point very well. If you don't have an adequate way to address those questions to support your beliefs, why do you believe them.
      But okay, I'll answer your questions. Facing persecution builds faith and teaches people to rely on God. If God immediately delivered people, then they would be more careless about doing things that got them into trouble. We see that pattern in Judges. Over and over again, when Israel got too comfortable, they went back to a sinful lifestyle, which led them back to persecution.
      God's goal in Egypt wasn't just to free his people. He hardened Pharaoh's heart so he could use the plagues to show he's the one, true God, not one of many gods. Their deliverance was very clearly God's doing. He didn't spend 400 years getting human politicians to develop freedom laws.
      Plus, it's not really a good comparison because none of the captivity and deliverance stories talk about God restoring lost faith or lost doctrine. None of the apostles had to restore any lost scripture. Daniel and his friends were in captivity, but they still had very strong faith in God. Since God was willing to protect his people in a blazing oven and the lions den, why didn't he protect the apostles? Maybe he didn't need the apostles alive to keep the church going?
      The Jews gave up polygamy because it's not a healthy family structure. I don't really understand your point on that.
      God never said we can know which church is true based on military stories. We have multiple passages that show how to recognize false teachers, like Gal 1:8-9 and 1 John 4:1-3. Both talk about testing the teacher by comparing what they say with what the apostles taught.

I’m glad these three seem not to be prejudiced, but the Mormon church spent a lot of money trying to keep marriage equality from happening, the suicide rate among LGBT Mormon youth is staggeringly high, etc. I’m assuming the Mormon teaching is similar to Catholicism: it’s not a sin to be gay, just a sin to do anything gay.
