RMS Titanic in 1:700 - Academy vs. Revell

- Finding info on TItanic model kits is far easier in 1:350 than 1:700. Both Academy and Revell have corrected this by releasing new toolings of the doomed liner in recent years, but neither kit is perfect. Come along as I compare some of the salient features of both of these kits - Academy's RMS Titanic and Revell's RMS Olympic (Olympic is used here because A) their mold is nearly identical to that of their Titanic offering, and B) I happened to have it - and not their Titanic - in my stash).

This has got to be the best model review I've ever seen on RUclips. Well done.
Nice comparison. So many kits available in 1/700. Glad to see this.
Thanks very much for this as I am looking to build several 'Titanics' and her sister ships in different scales and this was a great review. It may be some time before I get around to doing mine, so may do my build as and when you are doing yours. :-)

Thank you for this review ! It answered some questions I had , and wonder how they stack to the " new mold " Zwesda kit . Once again, Thanks for a great video, and hope you and yours have a Healthy and Prosperous New year ! Tony
The Academy kit is obviously based on their 1/350 kit. The raised roof outline is wrong (Titanic did not have the bay window shape in the deck). The fo'c'sle breakwaters point too far aft (holdover from the old Entex kit) There were no vents on the aft well deck.
Thanks for the review, I almost bought the academy kit a while ago. I'm glad I held off. Is there a 1/350 titanic you recommend. My dad has been asking me to build him a titanic for years now.
The MiniCraft Models 1:350 is more or less the standard when it comes to Titanic kits. You can find more info on it at the Titanic Model Research Association's webpage, located at www.titanic-model.com.
Thanks for this. Really useful comparison. For me, the shell plating kills the Academy kit. Wondering now about either cross kitting, or getting the Rainbow set to fit the Revell kit.
@12:39 actually the roof over the lounge on the Revell Olympic is truer to the Titanic, while vice versa for the Academy Titanic.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one who noticed that he got that wrong. Olympic and Britannic both had the bay window design, whereas Titanic had a
an overhang over her bay windows. Which would give the illusion when looking above that she did not have any bay windows at all. That doesn’t make Revell’s Olympic kit in accurate, but it does make it accurate for the Titanic kit. 😊
An Olympic. I've built one but struggling to find another, everywhere I look, they've sold out or asking stupid money for them. Want to build the HMT Olympic.
Thank you for this! Almost bought Academy's because of the LEDs.
In the revells kit its much easier to paint the red bottom part because there are Windows in the revell kit
So is academy more better than Revell or other way around.
Ryan Silva I'd say Revell is better. He did compare an Olympic Model to a Titanic model which was a weird thing to do because Titanic and Olympic weren't very similar when it comes to comparing model kits. Academy is far more inaccurate so if you're still considering which to get, get the 1:700 Titanic from Revell.
DJ Slam it's not sure because if you were listening they are both the same kit except they changed the promenade deck.
I noticed the new 1/700 zvezda titanic has the one piece hull and colored parts like the academy kit. I wonder if they are the same.
Great observation! I just took a look at some in-box shots and it's definitely the same. Some parts are different - the hull is two-piece, and the raised deckhouse over the First Class Lounge is a separate piece - but you can tell that it comes from the same tooling even with these differences.
It's not the same. Completely different.
I think Olympic model kits are much rarer than Titanic kits tbh
What about airfix?
which one is better my volume isnt working sorry i cant hear
Revell
Why i cant buy the Olympic anymore
The rainbow PE titanic is mold toward the academy
Where did you get the olympic model?
Shawn Stanley I picked it up at an Ontario LGS while on vacation in Canada. I've seen it at several other hobby shops since then, though.
Almost to 1k!
