Great vid, I am picking up my new 79 in July. I am installing MSA electric towing mirrors, a cheaper and better mirror in my opinion. Also looking at scheel-mann seats, worth checking out. Happy travels.
Great vids guys, really inspiring, but must say, your spending so much... I live on a sail boat and battling to make ends meet... Go for it, keep giving me the inspiration... cheers guys
Thanks for commenting Peter. I suppose everyone has different priorities with what they spend their money on. For me reliability and safety in the bush are key to get me back to my family. Wow, living on a yacht sounds amazing, what a life.
Nice work mate you have come a long way since my old man used to drop us carless groms up Teewah, looking forward to showing you my 60 I got a crew of mates that are preparing for a cape trip in the next year or two, love to catch up with ya it’s been a long time. Sterny.
Hey legend! yeah been far too long. Yeah I remember those days being dropped up there with no car and just surfing and kicking back. Those were cruisy times hey! Love to see your 60 mate, Iv been day dreaming of doing a full 60 re build from ground up. Check out ARB's channel on here, they've just about finished a complete re haul on one and its soooo sexy.
You should look at a JDW custom fabrication Canopy made in Caloundra, Im getting one made from them . They are solid and a very good looking canopy, John will custom anything to suit,
I’m a new subscriber and I’m really impressed with your content. I moved up here to FNQ a couple of years ago and am currently planning on heading up the cape end of this wet season…if it ever arrives! Your advice and opinions are on the money I reckon. Keep up the good work fellas. 👍🍺🇦🇺
If your chasing a trig point, also look at Zone RV UEV canopy, light weight, single latch, slam shut, central locking, and they use panelling with good insulation properties.
Thanks mate, Stoked you are liking the show! The Winch was actually on the ute when I bought it. It goes well, We've put it through its paces. On the last trip I had trouble with the wireless remote but apart from that I cant fault it.
Since Your concerned with weight on the back. You really should look into chassis stretching it 300mm or even 450mm it will ride a lot better and you can keep the weight over the axle. I love the vids keep it up. I can't live the dream right not but love watching your adventures.
Thanks Nicholas, glad you are loving the videos. Yeah Iv been looking into the stretch. Its something iv considered for the last couple of Landcruisers but haven't done it as I want to keep the weight and size of vehicle down. I think if I stretch it and put a bigger tray on it ill just find more gear to put in it..haha. Yes I have heard they ride a lot better with the stretch too. Not sure yet but thanks for the tip.
Hey Legend, cheers for putting this together. Can you give us a little more info on your water pump setup? Pump type/brand? Flow rate etc? And if you’ve got any info on the hose fittings and connections you’ve used. My understanding is that the RV pumps use like a 10mm hose and so far I haven’t been able to find any adaptors to connect to a 12mm garden hose. Also noticed the pump turned on on hose trigger? My setup needs a 12v switch to activate the pump. Cheers mate
Hi Shane, Ill check the brand and Flo rate for you today but yeah its 10mm hose coming out of the pump and iv heat that up and pushed it into a quality but standard size (13mm I think) garden hose fitting. I can then click an extension hose into that which has the spray gun on the end. I have the pump on a switch but it has a pressure switch in it so when it builds up to a certain pressure it stops until you pull the trigger and then it continues pumping to get back up to pressure as you use the hose. Hope this helps mate
Great vid thanks for the viewing. (Especially in this time) I’m actually looking into upgrading from an 06 hilux to a land cruiser. question: now you have driven both the 200 series and 79 dual what Is your preference? Specifically wagon vs dual cab Ute? Like you I have a small family and can’t decide between the two. Any feedback or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Mate ive owned a few troopies, spent time in a 76 series and now own a 100series. Ive also spent loads of time in my mates 200 sahara. My advice is go for the 200, its heaven. Powerful, safe, incredibly comfortable and unstoppable offroad.
Hey mate, Im coming from a 200series at the moment looking to buy a 79 im not too concerned about the ride too much but imagine th cook might be. Is the ride that much more uncomfortable? Also is there much difference towing between the two or are they both good with a big load behind them?
Hey mate. My opinion and I'm pretty sure Dan shares the same opinion owning both a 79 and a 200. The ride comfort and creature comforts are 100 times better in the 200. The towing capabilities are great in both but the 200 being an auto is definitely better. Id still prefer a 79 though because its comfortable enough to me and it tows everything I need to tow without an issue. Sooooo much power there.I just love the 79 cause I feel I can knock it around alot more doing what I do, obviously having a tray for camping and exploring is great and I loooove the low gearing and off-road capabilities over the 200 on the beach and just off-road in general... Hope that helps mate
For now we have different size offset rims on the rear to widen the wheelbase. It works a treat and Im not getting any issues but I imagine the boys in blue might not like it... Thanks mate
@@WildReaches just be aware the wheel bearings will wear prematurely with the increased offset, as the loads are significantly increased. But I reckon you're all over your preventative maintenance and change them on all four corners before a big trip as well as carry them as spares. Its sphincter-tightening when you lose a wheel from a failed bearing, especially when towing. Its one of the items I change out regardless of how old they are before a big trip. A single failed wheel bearing has cost me four days travel once (remote Arnhem Land) and who knows how many dollars. Far cheaper to have a preventative maintenance plan when doing serious trips.
@@rp3874 Thanks mate. Thats definitely a great idea. Its peace of mind too whilst covering those huge kms that these things are taken care of. The only thing worse than stressing about your vehicle for hours on end through the bush is when something actually fails and you could've prevented it.
Hey mate if you haven't already, look at Ultra-vision Nitro max spotties there top of the range version has 1Lux@ 1.8Kms on High and 1lux@600m on low setting they're also available in 4000K and 100% aussie owned and Made in Vic, easily the best spotties on the market atm

Back in the 60's and 70's when the roads were worse than today we managed quite well without lining the pockets of the corporations and Chinese trinket makers. Congratulations. You've got a car that's the same as all the others. Does spending the dollars help you get closer to nature ?
Get a hand winch. It's more versatile. Yes, a bullbar and an ordinary set of spotlights is a good idea. Don't need suspension upgrade. Don't need a lift. Don't need to change the tyres. Don't need a canopy and solar panels. Don't need a fridge. Don't need a set of plastic surf boards.
Better yet ride a horse, can’t bog one of them. But guess what, it’s not the 60’s or the 70’s. Technology and machinery has come along way, so why not use it if it makes the journey safer or more enjoyable?

The only other item I'd have Included would have been a good first aid kit. I enjoyed your presentation and thank you.
Thanks Tim, I agree mate. Dan carries our first aid kit but I think both vehicles should have a big one on board all the time 👍🏻
Great video! Looking to buy a 79 series so you have given us some great ideas as we carry a lot of gear on our adventures! Cheers!
