As I recall, in PSMCD, cars can have a 2.5" exhaust pipe. However, looking at the video at 4:45, the Olds clearly doesn't have 2.5" pipes?! That would make a huge difference in power! Anyhoo, two absolutely amazing cars!
@@badgerbait8351 The olds W Z manifolds are are a good design they have individual runners cast into them like a shorty header but the collector outlet is to small being only 2 1/4''. I have been told that a strong high performance street and strip olds 455 will pick up 40-50h.p. with long tubes and 3'' . I run a 488 stroker olds powered G body that is pretty mild and I am running the manifolds still because headers cost 1500 and american racing is the only company making them now. I might upgrade to a thorton shorty header with a 2 1/2'' collector but won't gain like long tubes. Ran 12.7 @107 through manifolds but there is still a lot left to gain. You should see the manifolds on non high performance 455's there are a log manifold and the drivers side connects to the passenger side then goes out. Passenger manifold has a inlet and a outlet. There is a lot to gain on the exhaust side of these motors starting at the head exhaust ports they flow poorly and with smog J heads they are even worse. I played with a junk yard 1976 8:1 smog 455 with J heads in my G body for a bit, It was only rated at 190h.p. I put on the better WZ manifolds a performer intake added a bunch of timing and had it tuned perfect and pulled off 13.8 @96.7 which is quicker than the hurst just did with a junk yard 455 smog motor with unknown miles and pure stock internals shifted at 4700rpm. The heads have the exhaust ports joined in two parts in the center cylinders. The worst thing about Olds big blocks are the exhaust side of things and having a tiny bore and long stroke they are hard to get to flow because of small valves and horrible exhaust port design. They also have these air bumps cast into the head I could go on all day about.
@@wildrosegarage4208 They really do look like a good flowing manifold! 1 cubic liter = 61.024 cubic inches, so 389 cu in = 6.375 cubic liters while 400 cu in = 6.555 cubic liters. So it seems that Pontiac rounded up a little for the 389 and down a little for the 400 ... which they later labeled as 6.6L on T/As.

True, but the Hurst/Olds is prepped by an outside company and the rules were bent by this process. Look at the window stickers. The 68 and 69 H/O were the only cars that circumvented the G.M. rules until 1970.

whats with the red fender wells ??????
Godday C & Z,
That is a top race, considering the ET on the Poncho it should of got in the 13's for sure, & such smooth shifting you would of thought it was a auto box.
Those bad ass Hurst Old's, the first original BB GM A Bodies, before Yenko & Nicky & the likes.
So underrated & unappreciated because it isn’t a Chev.
Dr Old's build a lean & mean machine & @ 500 ft lbs of torque it was more torque than a Hemi.
If only Oldsmobile went NASCAR racing with it then it would be considered a legend.
Great race, beautiful Poncho there interior design is so beautiful with the chrome.
Keep the great videos coming 👍

love seeing factory stock muscle car running the strip
This is my dream race.
'68 Hurst Olds 442 always had a traction problem. I know that from experience because I had one.
dude where’s the voice?
Back when GM built excitement.
My bro had a 66GTO with 400 tri power it sang along,I never was a oldsmobile lover
I liked them both, but I was partial to the 4-4-2 because there wasn’t as many around. I think I was the only kid in high school with a 4-4-2. Everyone else was running around in Chevelle’s ,GTO’s & Camaro’s.
nice listen to that mechanical heart beating in that Olds the cam makes it sound so sweet like it has soul cars today don't sound like this
My 1/2-brother had a '66 GTO like this and took me for a ride in it. That ride made me a gear-head. I later built 'sleepers' that would put his GTO into the weeds. [Wink.] JMO.
Both wicked nice cars we got nothing but snow on the ground here so No shenanigans for another few months.
What for an muffler use the olds !???
Growing up I was fortunate to experience first hand a 1969 442. My best friend had one. Actually his parents but we had it more than not. And theirs was just the 400 from what I remember at 390hp? Correct me if I'm wrong. Some serious torque just from my butt dyno! Lol. Edit, after watching video maybe it was a 455? I remember same rear at those numbers
That goat is badass!!!
Who remembers a 65 or 66 GTO that had a SOHC 6cylinder with either a 4bbl or dual 2bbl carbs
What happened to the commentary? Haven't heard any for a while.
Awesome , Thanks
Man them 60 s GM cars bad ass and look good
Drooling 😍
As I recall, in PSMCD, cars can have a 2.5" exhaust pipe. However, looking at the video at 4:45, the Olds clearly doesn't have 2.5" pipes?! That would make a huge difference in power! Anyhoo, two absolutely amazing cars!
Wouldn't make a difference because the high performance olds manifolds have only 2 1/4'' outlets. I run a olds.
@@wildrosegarage4208 What a horrible thing to do to a big cube muscle car!
They also have these air bumps cast into the head I could go on
all day about.
@@wildrosegarage4208 They really do look like a good flowing manifold! BTW, I just finished installing a mildly built 455 (C heads w/oversized valves, 9.5:1 cr, .226/.230 @ .050 cam, etc.) and purchased a set of Mondello Performance Products headers, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and fit! I think they were just over $700.00.
Are the GTO tri-power setup allowed to be all linkage instead of vacuum in that class? That makes a HUGE difference in how the 389 tri runs.
That Hurst Olds is downright nasty.
Digging the no dialogue videos
That's funny: the cars actually ran slower than original testing decades ago.
Yippeeeeeee, yeahhhhh babbyyy!! My fav cars close to heart here shown face off with each other!! Always I used to get mad about decent 68 Hurst! I used to correct people 68 Hurst is much gorgeous than your Chevelle! More manly and handsome!!

Olds Red Lighted GTO For The Win 🏆👍😎
The 390 hp 455 should be racing a 69 Grand Prix 390hp 428 4speed
Where is the commentator? He makes these videos.
No more voice over???
You would think these two sweet cars could get 13.50 easily with some tweaks.
Lots of power no brakes ya baby ya
Did I see a little puff of smoke from the right tailpipe of the Olds?
I'd love to have both cars
Interesting result.
Pontiac red lights, but it also gets the win light at the other end.
Watch when the times come up on the board. The little white "win" light lights up on the Pontiac side....could be a malfunction at the drag strip.
The 442 had a very low MPH too and he didn't let off either.
@@aphil4581 Carb might need a little tuning.
Cheap stripped GTO build for racing vs a luxury Old's torque monster. That drives way nicer...
Let's take a survey. Who would you like to be the replacement commenter. I'd like Uncle Tony of Utg or Daryl from Vice grip.
Uncle Tony is the king of the boomers
14.01et with 400 335hp /400turbo with minor carb remetering '67 GTO convt on 14" whitewalls
That 1966 GTO's MSRP was $.86/lb.
A 2006 GTO's MSRP was $8.89/lb.
Oldsmobile is the underdog 💪
Could Cars and Zebras record a race between a 69 LeMans 350 HO vs a 69 Cutlass 350 ???
?? For someone smarter than me... The Badge on the side of the GTO said 6.5 liter. Now I owned a Mayfair Maze 68 400ci Ram Air, & it wore the same Badge... My ? is.. Is the 389ci & the 400ci both considered 6.5 Liter?? I have been a PMD fan most my 53yrs, but never noticed that before. Or maybe I did and just forgot !! Lmao I did smoke alot of pot back in the day !!! Lmao
@@jasonescott T/A’s labeled 6.6L, were Olds 403’s, ironically enough.
@@robertbeirne9813 Excellent point! I forgot the 400's had "400" decals on the shaker, not 6.6L. Thanks for reminding me and clarifying that for others!
@@jasonescott Thnx for the 411
@@robertbeirne9813 The 6.6L decal was used on Pontiac 400's from 77 on. It's was a result of Smoke in the Bandit movie car which effectively became the 77 proto type.
Ok !! Without finishing ( paused ) Video Iam gonna go with the GTO ! BUT It'll probably be the HURST !! HERE GOES ( continuing on )
Just as a suggestion, regarding the price you should not say the cost “today”. I think it should be mentioned like in 2021. You keep in mind your videos is going to be seen for years.
SHAD AP !!
All the person has to do is look when the video was posted. Too hard to do ???
@@dhart8451 pretty easy to do. It would be more accurate though.
@@m.pietro9087 And you're probably the reason he has completely distanced himself from this channel.
Figuring it was just generic inflation numbers. For those prices all you would get are the bottom end cars needing a total restoration. If you could even find either of those models in poor condition.
The 68 Hurst Olds wow black/gray only, it says 390hp but for insurance cost down I bet it was about 450hp
Weight with driver 3,695lbs. less than my ex's late 06-2007 Lexus ES350 with my 225+ pounds, the Olds weighed 3,924 with driver, curb weight without any fluids, on the Lexus was 3,842 in that option package still quite a bit less than an economy executive platform car that gets you no where in a rush with a 3.5L V6, that's short on the thrills
Not a 66 Got but a 67. 66 GTO did not have hood scoope and tail lights were not louvered.
That’s a ‘66. The louvered taillights are a dead give away. And there was a hood scoop in 1966. Try using Google next time.
The goat was runnin him down .
Where's the commentary?? That was my second favorite thing about the videos, the cars come fitst lol. Except a FoRd...
Looks like the Olds shut down just a little early.
HA HA! Fade to black. Love it.
Looks like a bunch of Pontiac crybabies in the comments. Nothing unexpected there.
I thought the 455 didn't come out until 1970
True, but the Hurst/Olds is prepped by an outside company and the rules were bent by this process. Look at the window stickers. The 68 and 69 H/O were the only cars that circumvented the G.M. rules until 1970.
So much better without the commenting and silly humor! I love the subtitles and the sounds of the engines and ambient noise/chatter.
I don’t mind the the humor but I much prefer this style.
I won't be watching anymore if he can't even say why he doesn't do the commentary anymore. Good luck!
So you think you are entitled to his personal business?

@@therealhonestabe7839 please explain. Cause I can’t find a vehicle now days with the kind of performance that car had in it’s time in comparison to today’s cars in that price range for I think it was 25grand that today would not get you a Honda without nowhere near the performance
Lol the gto won LOL
Hurst sounds Ratty ( it is a Big Block after all ) LOLOLOLHAHA
It's considered a big block but it got about the same bore as a 400 SBC breathing through the big valve SBC heads. The Pontiac engine isn't a big block and it's physically larger. It's kind of like the Ford FE blocks, basically a mid block.
