If you pause at 4:10 (sort of an aerial wide shot) you can see the house band in the up-right corner. I think this is the regular stage and they tossed carpets down and invited people on to the stage to sit down. It's amazing how you can transform a space like this.
True, all the other colours of clothing (black, shades of grey, pastels) blend into the background, her top is a single bright colour and it makes her pop out of every frame.
You can tell multiple people in the audience are really feeling this song. The woman behind and to the right of the lead singer is extra reflective and appreciative by what I can tell.
@@Alia-bc3rc I grew up without cable, so I never watched MTV while they played music. I'm quoting a tongue-twister that was on a previous episode of _The Late Show._
If I'm not mistaken, the other song had been a closed set sound check. Stephen's crew had asked if they could record the song, and it turned out good enough for broadcast.
@@KelseyZachary wow thank you for that - i was surprised to like mumford. this was the first (and so far) and only song i've heard by them. Grammas are priceless -
all their music are the same. I understand...they found their "niche"....but for me, they are always too soft... and almost every song is the same as previous one.
Watched and listened to the performance on t.v. Really difficult. Two chords. Rotten vocalisation. Oh, and the deep groovy movement when nothing moves. A truly lame composition. I'm not being a dick. This was really the most amature piece I've ever seen. Couldn't believe it.
Rotten vocalization? Are you deaf? Listen to the album and come back to me on that one. This album has some of the most passionate vocals and lyrics from them. Especially live. Think before you write such an uniformed comment.
@@musicbymikew Now, I only commented on this performance, and that's all. I guess MaS, (being on national t.v.), gives "uniformed' viewers like me opportunity to comment without being a fan or spending money. I'm sure they are grateful that you are "passionate" in their defense. Listened to the album...they show that they do what they can and have done all they do. Great, and thanks. No worries.
@@jsmcewing4221 In reality, even though I like Mumford and sons as they do have great songs I think this was the worst possible choice of song to present them to first time listeners. I would definitely not give them a second look after hearing this one. I think Delta would have been a much better choice due to the power it has, the building of emotion and the lyrics. Cheers
Hate to be that guy but they lost their charm for me after the first album. They've strayed away from the folk-rock anthems like Little Lion Man, The Cave and Roll Away Your Stone (check out the Glastonbury performance, amazing) which had poetic lyrics and atmospheric-yet-unique musicality and gone towards a very bland 3-chord ballad style that's far too simplistic and accessible for people who aren't fans of theirs. Meh
Try listening to every song on the new album before you comment. Or hear the new songs live. They are beyond passionate and lyrically incredible. These guys haven’t gone downhill, they have evolved, I can assure you that.
Thanks for having us
You guys are so awesome!💖
I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!
Great performance!
You guys are amazing! Love your music
Lads that was a beautiful version! Love it.

This song always gives me the feels
It's such a pleasure to hear their music.
Such a world class band. I want to hear more of them!!!
Just streamed this and no version compares. What a performance! I cried for hours after
This is a most tear-jerking song.
Saw them in Ottawa on Tuesday and they were AMAZING! ❤️ thanks Mumford and Sons for an awesome night!
I'm going tomorrow! Super excited!!!
MY FAVORITE SONG FROM THE NEW ALBUM
You know you are looking at that yellow lady
Reminds me of when my mom died I was 16 yrs old and never got to say goodbye 😢 ❤
Tried to focus on the song, was continuously distracted by the kind-looking woman in the yellow jumper.
True, all the other colours of clothing (black, shades of grey, pastels) blend into the background, her top is a single bright colour and it makes her pop out of every frame.
Jeevan Persad it's defiantly her face
That I would have loved to spend three hours in line for. Either way this show is well worth the free wait. Bless Stephan Colbert.
You can tell multiple people in the audience are really feeling this song. The woman behind and to the right of the lead singer is extra reflective and appreciative by what I can tell.
Love seeing those double bass string vibrations. Gets me every time!
Emotionally beautiful❤
Love Mumford and Sons....PJ❤
Love this band 😍😎
Wow ♥️
I don't remember seeing this stage before. Instead of playing in _front_ of the audience, they _surround_ themselves with the audience.
"in the round"
I was on the stage for the performance. It's just the regular Late Show stage, we just sat in a circle around the band. It was so cool!
The older blonde woman and the girl with the glasses and the way they're looking at Marcus is a mood
Love their music
Remake of The Worlds End! Beautiful guys!
Underrated
Definitely open tuning on that beautiful Martin d35
Really like them!)
Yes!
awesome!
loved this so much - but had to just listen and not watch -
audience too distracting
Wish you all a good day
'Not all tears are an evil'
I like the setup something different.
Thank you
This band always makes me think of Rentaghost
Channeling Dashboard for the new stuff, well alright.
My name is Mackenzie and these are my falls.
Reminds me of the time mom ran away and never came back...
Power of music...so emotionally provocative. I love that cello, but it seems guitar is still better to play with.
Double bass. Cello is much smaller.
i've never seen a banjo play so little
What tuning is this, is it a half step below open D?
Anyone have a tab, so simple but can't seem to find what he's playing. Std tuning or maybe altered? Pls help
BRR R It’s in open D tuning (DADF#AD). He forms most of the chords by just fretting the low D and F# strings.
I thought that was Dave Matthews on the piano..lol
Dump McGump sump pumped for fun and loudly bumped Mumford and Sons.
You must have born after the MTV Unplugged died...
@@Alia-bc3rc I grew up without cable, so I never watched MTV while they played music. I'm quoting a tongue-twister that was on a previous episode of _The Late Show._
why did they perform this song with the audience, but perform the other song in an empty studio??
If I'm not mistaken, the other song had been a closed set sound check.

Love his voice but the noisy synthesizer sucks. Much too loud.
No four on the floor? I'm kind of disappointed. :)
i have to see my gramma
clumsiii I heard this song for the first time two days after my grandma passed away and holy cow, tears every time ,
@@KelseyZachary wow thank you for that - i was surprised to like mumford. this was the first (and so far) and only song i've heard by them. Grammas are priceless -
great song, but I couldn't understand most of his words
*Where's the mum though ?*
Little less banjo.
So a *mum* drives a *ford* with her *sons* ?
Beige
are these guys even capable of writing a song over 70 bpm?
We’ll seeing as this song is 96 bpm…. Yes
Good song, waste of a banjo.
this is who beat Frank Ocean for Album of the year?!? 🤣
it is...six years ago...and deservedly so.
yawn!
deemagico Please elaborate. Is it the inspiring and passionate lyricism they put into their music that makes you yawn? What makes you not yawn?

First
Okay, that's one thing off my bucket list.
This episode was a Gayle King CBS cross promotion, an anodyne sub-interview with Pamela Adlon, and one of the most overrated bands in the last decade.
Overrated is an understatement.

I think it was Glastonbury 2010 or 11 on the john peele stage where they killed it with roll away your stone

@@musicbymikew I agree! And of course they have to come up with new things, Marcus told us many times that they're not just a banjo band.
Who listens to this utterly useless music?
judging by the comments under the video, apparently, you do
Uncultured swine, what makes this music useless? The incredible songwriting? The passionate lyrics? Please elaborate....
