They took over the south east regions from Lotka Volterra (my alliance; built some of the first titans in game) then they went to go roll Band of Brothers, then they got betrayed and lost tons of sov, and lots of other events over the years. Their tactic used to be "crash the servers by taking advantage of low-cost, high-quantity players to breach systems". They didn't have the tactical strength to win. They abused servers which led to the server-reinforcement ticket system and then TiDi. I stopped playing after what I saw as winning the game: Amarr Titan V and one of the first ten titan pilots in game. Goons took the fun out of the game for a long time with their abuse of the game's hardware.
This game used to be amazing....... just blobs now. When you watch the modern eve trailers ccp makes now compared to the ones prior to burn jita of 2011 its clear to see that EVE online will never have the soul it used to.

I've had more fun in the last few months than I have in the previous 13 years of playing on and off. Fleet warfare has been revitalized, nullsec just got a massive update with tons of new things to do, and there is a massive war going on in wormhole space.

As someone who has never played this, how come no one is controlling the middle of the map?
The area in the middle is low-sec and high-sec and player corps cannot take sovereignty there.
Those are permanently governed by NPC corps.
Why no one takes Stain?
Stain is NPC nullsec. Can't take sov there...
