Southport Gold Coast - The 1954 Australian Grand Prix

- Here's an F1 onboard lap at the Gold Coast Southport circuit that was used in the 1954 Australian GP (Non-F1 race). This 9.17 km long street circuit was made up of regular roads and hosted the Australian Grand Prix for Formula Libre in 1954. Formula 1 wouldn't arrive on Australian circuits until 1985 in Adelaide.
This Formula 1 hotlap is driven in Assetto Corsa with Lewis Hamilton in the F1 2023 Mercedes W14.

It's like a tarmac rally stage.
Legit
This is incredible, I never thought I’d see this track recreated because it was only used once or twice, and the topography today is probably different to how it was then. I wonder if they had any footage to try and recreate the track from. In any case, very cool to see it brought back to life. Great video mate!
Just saw this comment - there was only a few seconds of footage, mostly I used photo references
this just looks like a normal country road here in australia.
The grid will be more like a single file at the start
Wow this track is small and even for its time
If this was widened and homologated to the FIA Grade 1 standards, this would actually be a sick track for F1 to race on. I could imagine 4 DRS zones, some heavy braking regions too. It would make for great overtaking, unless of course its just a DRS train.
Red Bulls would build like 30 second lead anyways.
Sorry but I disagree. Tracks like these virtually takes no brain to drive on and a race held here will just turn out to be a automotive parade (if you know what I mean). What would be better (at least in my opinion) is a track that's technical and demands a driver's full brainpower, hard to get right but if done optimally it's a blast to drive on.
@@verticalflyingb737 Fair point, tbh on second thoughts you're kinda right.
I live near there so this mod is something that ill definitely be using quite a bit.
Great lap !! I had not heard of this circuit. So glad that we discovered new places around here !! Great video !!
Formula 1 cars visited Australia well before 1985. During the Northern Hemisphere winter the likes of Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill etc would come to Australia and New Zealand to participate in a series of races. The races didn't go towards the F1 championship but the cars they raced in were the current F1 cars for that period. But you would be right in sayiong the first F1 championship race was at Adelaide in 1985.
If you are looking for another Australian race track that is historically significant but is not used now is the race track at Orange, New South Wales called Gnoo Blas. It was a road circuit and Jack Brabham did race there as well.
you are the king, no doubt!
It’s like an Australian Southern 100 or Ulster GP 😅
It is even dangerous for rallying.
1st Karen alert!
Mitsos, today we had the SP eprix. It would be great if you could take a lap around the Sao Paulo Anhembi street circuit, used by Indycar from 2010 to 2013. I leave the suggestion for the next videos 👍
Can you do The First Brazilian Grand Prix track please
Circuito da Gávea?
Could you do Greenwood Raceway next?
So narrow!😮
How long did it take you to master it?
A country road where to speed 😎
Thought it was Southport in England for a second hahaha imagine
Where would you overtake here :)
The scenery here is rather... interesting.
Probably pretty unsafe, though
2nd Karen siting!
That mod needs to sort the gear ratios out. It hits max rpm wayyyy too fast
Please Old Paul Ricard
Alright guys I need suggestions for my first wheel and cockpit setup. Just discovered AC F1 this weekend after giving up on the official F1 game (it’s hot garbage) and yeah AC is so good I think I’m ready to move up from my Xbox controller.
I think something entry level like a Logitech G29 or Thrustmaster T300 would be good. I currently have the G29 still, but I'd probably recommend you to go with a Thrustmaster wheel.
There are more expensive options of course, like Fanatec, but that might be worth upgrading to after you've dipped your feet into the sim racing stuff
@@Mitsos1311 Thank you for the advice, great videos too keep up the great work!
I really cant see why they arent racing there anymore
Because it’s highly urbanised now, this track is only a few kilometres away from the Surfers Paradise street circuit that Supercars races at now. They opened Surfers Paradise Raceway in the 60s as well. This track had a couple of “no passing” zones for the Australian GP.
And now try to make an overtake
Anhembi pls
