I work full time, also worked through college, my rule of thumb is always: if you can’t buy 3 of them, don’t buy 1.
If something is so expensive that I couldn’t afford 3, I just skip it and try to find a more moderately priced version of what I want. Coach makes amazing quality purses for a couple hundred dollars and I have never been disappointed in their quality. I’m done paying for just a name, I rather spend much less for something just as good so I can continue to save up for my house and future children’s college funds. Resell value for the purses are over stated if you plan to use it often

I agree. That’s exactly what I did when I was younger. I worked full-time and put myself through college and grad school. My goal was to build a house at 21. I did and paid it off by 37. I also took care of my children who have graduated from college and moved out on their own. I couldn’t afford the high end luxury bags during that time in my lift but I did get a few as gifts along the way. Some are 30 years old now and look amazing. When my children got older I got a side gig and purchased the affordable designers. I ended up buying a lot of these bags over the years and I regretted it. Once the online resellers got popular, I sold most of them at a loss because they do not hold value. However, I sold an 11 year old Neverful I got as a gift for $100 more than the original price my hubby paid. My older luxury bags resell value is more due to price increases and the decline in quality of new bags among other things. Today luxury is not the best investment or at least it’s not like before. But looking back it was definitely better to wait because I couldn’t imagine paying a mortgage and spending thousands on a designer bag. I always knew that eventually I would be able to collect the classics brands like Hermes, Chanel, LV etc. because I am not just a handbag enthusiast. I have been into fashion for almost 4 decades. I recently retired and decided to start my own business as a designer, stylist and buyer. After all the price increases and decline in quality I found love for restoring preloved designer bags. My collection is such an inspiration to my designs but if fashion wasn’t my passion I wouldn’t own as many luxury handbags. Regardless, at the end of the day I could honestly live without luxury handbags if I had to. Life is about the freedom of choices and we have to choose what is right for our journey. Good luck on your journey.

That's the thing: you should never allow someone else to make you feel ashamed for donning a luxury handbag. Every situation is different. Sure, maybe you can't afford one, and perhaps someone gave it to you. People will judge you no matter what, just remember to do you booboo. Do you know when one should feel ashamed of donning a handbag? When it's stolen, a designer imposter one [not to be confused with an inspired dupe] for the people who love to sport a fake rich appearance.

For me, it’s not exactly embarrassment, but guilt/shame. If I am going to meet much poorer people, I never wear expensive bags, jewelry, or clothes.
There’s a scene in the movie Schindler’s List where Schindler is looking at his gold pin and thinks like he could have saved two more people with his money/expensive stuff, but he didn’t. This gives me quite a similar feeling.
Yes, I like this bag and it’s my money, but it’s still a lot of money that can be spent on helping other people. A lot of money that many people can never have in their life (I live in Thailand and the labour wage here is 9 usd per day).
Yet I choose to enjoy myself with this luxury. I am fortunate, but I would never rub salt in other people’s wound. Many more suitable private places for me to wear beautiful things.

The point of a workplace is to succeed. The most impressive thing about you shouldn’t be your handbag. Cohesion is also important at the workplace. Standing out for your bags, clothes, makeup, etc. is NOT a good thing at work.

I find myself craving luxury bags sometimes, but then I remember that they don't fit my general lifestyle and there are very few places I could wear them without feeling ridiculous. So I settle for lower-mid-range instead. Because what I'm really looking for in a bag is something that's good for general use, can be worn with most outfits, and is made from nice leather that will age well. I can find that with coach.

I don’t remember luxury being such a big deal even a decade ago. Either you brought it or you didn’t and nobody really cared. Today I see so many posts and videos against the purchase of luxury handbags. About 25% of the content I see assumes that people who have it can’t afford it and are only buying to look rich. These videos go as far to say that poor people buy luxury. I often wonder what is their definition of poor and do they actually know anyone that is poor. According to the IRS poverty level is $14,580 or $19,720 for family of 2. The math just doesn’t add up. Also, how do people know who’s poor and who’s not just by looking at them? The level of judgement it takes to make these statements is embarrassing in my humble opinion. The concern should be what’s in the heart. What’s in the heart of the associate who questioned the customer’s handbag purchase. What’s in the heart of the customer who felt embarrassed? Those are the things that matter. I pray that they have a clean heart. I haven’t seen content claiming that it’s embarrassing to own and wear luxury. That’s a new one for me. I don’t know everyone in the world but the people I do know don’t buy for any of these reasons. If they did, I would definitely be a friend and help them get to the root problem. Now I do know of people who buy more house, boats and cars than they can afford. I also see the consequences and I try to learn from them. I try to be a good example which requires less talking and more walking. As for what to wear to work it depends on your work environment. I’m an entrepreneur so I wear what is appropriate for the occasion. When I do in person business meetings I wear classics business attire and one of my luxury work bags depending on what I need to carry to the meeting. When I had a 9 to 5 and actually went into the office I wore my Hermes Herbag and know one said anything to me. I don’t think they realized that it was Hermes or was even familiar with the brand. There are still places in the world where people don’t really know these brands. I’ve never seen anyone with a Hermes Birkin or Kelly in my small town. I have to go to the next major city Orlando, FL. However, LV is common here. Everyone owns a Neverfull. That’s why I sold mine. I see people in the grocery store with that bag all the time. None of the associates ever said anything when I was there. I guess we just respect their decisions. I was behind a guy who spent almost 1K on beer. I said nothing. In fact, I started organizing my groceries in the cart while I was standing there with a bag I spent 1K on. I think if more time was spent being kind than judging the world would be better. I’m just more worried about trying to keep a clean heart. It’s a struggle everyday especially if you are getting judge for something you didn’t even know was going to affect a stranger at the grocery store. But really if anyone feels embarrassed about anything I pray that they find the root problem and get healing. If anyone is affected by what someone else does that doesn’t directly involves them then I hope they find the root problem and get healing.

I feel shame when a volunteer noticed my bag. This bag was preowned and I had gotten for a steal on Everything But The House, auction house.
Something I wanted for a while and placed a bid and won it. She confronted me while wearing a Rolex and Cartier Rose gold bracelets. I said oh please give it a rest and focus on your Rolo and jewelry- she was shocked and ran away. No one has ever stepped to her. You cannot judge anyone and their situation- maybe it was gift, they worked hard for it, bought it preowned, auction. It’s not their wallet, yours you buy it for yourself.

There's only one kind of bag, or fashion in general, that would actually make me feel ashamed at myself: one that's covered in logos, or a giant logo. I simply find the concept of being a loud and obnoxious walking advertisement for a company for free (heck, more like after paying them quite a sum of money) abhorrent. I know not everyone thinks the same way, and that's totally fine. However, I cannot stomach myself doing this because it feels like a mockery of my intellect and pride.

Buy/ wear what you like, can afford, suits realistically your own lifestyle, so you can get back used per time unit and what makes your heart sing. I’m not trying to be in anyone’s face, just let me be me. Live and let live.
Life is too short, never let a trend or a person tell you what to wear. Who cares, we’re here for a short ride, sadly.
    Play your own trumpet.

Agree that the bag you carry should complement your overall look and never be a standalone statement. Also, I’ve seen people rock super loud logos and look great but I think they are tough to style, especially for everyday. It’s important to think about your overall style and daily life before you buy a bag.

no two fingerprints are the same
to each his own (logos) if you like it then rock it
i do feel fashion is a form of art therefore we have all kinds out there!

I wear a quite expensive bag for my income after saving for it. It was more than I ever spent before as it was over 300 dollars. I only use regularly because it doesn’t have a flashy logo or a widely known brand. And I’d buy from them again. Pond Los Angeles transformation tote is my everyday work and life bag it is an expensive bag for me compared to only buying bags under 100 for years.
