I thought you may enjoy another short video about another one of my heroes, Admiral Sir George Armstrong Nares.
I was doing lectures on what was supposed to be a 12 night cruise from Fremantle to Malta via the Suez Canal, but due to Covid it became a 35 night cruise to take the ship back to England via the Cape of Good Hope, so we missed Suez.

My great-granduncle, the banker Baron Stephan von Sarter from Bonn in Germany, who later served in Paris, founded the financial consortium that financed the Suez Canal and was one of the guests of honour invited by Empress Eugénie, wife of Emperor Napoléon III, at the opening of the canal in 1869.
