I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue-The Complete Mrs Trellis (1990-2007)

  • Mrs Trellis of North Wales made her first 'appearance' on ISIHAC during Series 17 in 1990. There was a long gap before she 'appeared' again, in Series 22 (1993). But from that moment on, pretty much every game of Mornington Crescent was preceded by "slightly less than two letters" from that particular Welsh correspendent.
This is an exhaustive (but I hope not exhausting) compilation of every single one of thuse nutty missives by the fragrant Mrs Trellis for your delight and delectation, read by the late, great Humphrey Lyttelton.

"The show without Tim is like Hamlet without the balcony scene": sadly now, all too true. But I did have the immense privilege of being in the audience in Huddersfield in March for his last recording.

It reads - Dear Mr Clarkson, I understand you are currently filming a TV programme while driving through small towns in South Wales. - Remember drive Caerphilly. Yours sincerely Mrs Trellis, North Wales.

I vividly remember discovering this show on a tiny short wave radio in the early 80s. I was pretty confused by it for a while... in between the shipping forecasts and english language programs from authoritarian countries lived an oasis of gleeful silliness. Half the time i didn't understand the references. Education and travel and experience have filled in the blanks as i've remained a fan. Sometimes it has gotten tired, definitely struggled at times after Littleton's passing. But it's a wonderful thing, a place where relatively wholesome examplars of english middle class culture sit around and make funny.
