Was out around Oakhampton on one of the ambulance service's defender, carnage on the A30! No other vehicle managed to get anywhere near the defenders out and about, sometimes it just needs a bit of adverse weather to remind everyone of their capabilities. When winching, let the winch do the work. Introducing power to the rescued vehicle shock loads the line massively (potentially surpassing the load limit) and it loses it's effectiveness. Also, your manufacturer will state how many 'wraps' on the drum the winch should have for best performance and torque, ours for instance is 12 meaning the recovery vehicle is often some way from the stranded vehicle. Introducing simple anchor and pulley wheels and returning the hook back to your vehicle gives you simple 2:1 mechanical advantage, giving your winch a nicer time!
Was up on the moor today too, stunning around Princetown, I did help someone who was stuck. It doesn’t happen very often so have to grab the fun when you can. Loved the video
It's funny that Sam said its going to test your recovery skills followed by him driving himself back into the ditch milliseconds before the winch was about to pull him free
As soon as there is a bit of snow, the child in us awakens and we have to go out and play in the snow - big boys, big toys 😜. Luckily in Austria it is easier for us to find snow, but unfortunately it is also harder to find roads that you are legally allowed to drive on 😩. Without wanting to be a smartass, a little tip: if you get stuck like Sam, i.e. with one wheel or one side in a ditch or rut, it is often better, to just let the other vehicle pull you out or using a winch, without accelerating yourself. As you can see in the video, as soon as the wheels spin they lose grip and the car slides back into the ditch. This rule actually applies whenever you get stuck on a sloping surface, whether in snow or mud.
8:11 this is my drive to work. I stopped at the brow of that hill down to Two Bridges as someone was trying to get up it in a RWD transit flatbed. Needless to say he didn’t manage it.
13:51 that’s where I eventually passed the transit once he gave up, there was also a red car and a food delivery van so I thought you might be towing one of those out. I went through around 9 on Thursday before it was plowed.
Great video . Keep them coming like see what you get up to in for Landry . When winching make sure you have a winch blanket to put over the winch.
Brilliant ! Thanks for sharing. Were sorted, we’re gripped… let’s go off road ! Love it.

Amazing footage and excellent stills
Curious as to why you used low box in the ice and snow? I was always taught to use as high a gear as possible on snow and ice.
It was a steep downhill decent, I was using engine braking for traction rather than brakes.
First of white stuff that's it out come the 4x4 crew, marvellous.
Haha very true!
shame you couldnt tow me out as i went off the road not far away from princtown in the tavistock plymouth location in my fiat panda 4x4 lol
