The statement from 24:00 to 24: 14 is difficult to accept. Suppose , in a tabla solo , the accompanying harmonium player started considering himself as an equal contributor to the performance. How would the tabla player be able to express what he wants to, with constant new ideas being thrown around by the harmonium player? A tabla player , while accompanying an instrumentalist , is there to keep the time and improvise at the cue given by the main artist. He is not an equal partner of the singer or instrumentalist. As a musician, both could be equal.
He is one of the most eloquent speakers it is kind of astonishing. I imagine tabla has greatly enhanced his language faculties.
