I live with Bipolar Disorder II. This means I alternate between hypomania and depression, and like Abena, my depressive episodes usually last months at a time. Kudos to KSM, Abena and her uncle for putting a spotlight on this painful mental condition. Bipolar disorder humbles you, and does not care whether you are smart, good-looking, young or wealthy. Half of the time, you cannot tell who you really are, and hypomania which feels monumentally better than depression, can itself be a huge impediment to your healing journey. It is essentially an identity crisis that is triggered by the ego constantly being at war with itself: inflated and grandiose during mania and deflated and defeated during depression. Eventually however, with much awareness, a good support system, therapy, lifestyle changes and medication, you are able to thrive. Most importantly, you learn to accept your condition and forgive yourself, love yourself and take care of yourself unconditionally, and you come to accept the world for what it is, forgive people more and be kind to others. You become more mindful and present, taking life one moment at a time and being grateful for your human experience, especially the little things our flawed selves often take for granted. Bipolar, if managed well, can prove to be, I believe, a blessing in disguise.

I listened to it first, then i watched it.

Well, but then again, she might be on some medication that is contributing her to act in this way.

Another wonderful interview. What I noticed is that Abeba felt safe and comfortable being herself on the show. Although she seemed overly comfortable at times, it is a sign that she can thrive in environments that respect her conditions and do not trigger her. She needs more people she respects around her.

God bless you rev. We are a function of energies and love being the greatest energy can pull someone from darknes into light .The greater the love , the more probable she is to come out of it . And it takes everyone. It takes the whole world to make her feel accepted which is not possible . To Abena, capitalise on the love you are getting , might not be enough because you will still come on sicial media to see the negatives . Please dwell on the positive energy , meditate on the few who are showing you genuine love . Maximise the love and watch yourself come out . Might not be easy. More love, greatest energy on earth

Bipolar cannot be cured, it can only be managed! She's fundamentally intelligent, but mentally unbalanced if she's been diagnosed with bipolar, u are born that way. Sometimes the medications make it worse, a lot of trial and error on meds to land on the right meds for her brain chemistry.

Another great example of why ignorance and retrogressive cultural values need to be left behind. How many licensed psychiatrists and psychologists practice in Ghana. Mental illness is very common and completely manageable if you believe in clinical, professional competence and other psychosocial support systems. Ghanaians should never have kept this in the purview of unqualified, exploitative religious charlatans and the best thing they can do now is educate themselves so that they can actually be of service to family members dealing with mental illness instead of perpetuating a culture of shame and silence that is so pervasive in Ghana.

@@rainbow3649 God speed my friend! You will actually be deeply encouraged that more and more trained professionals and spaces are becoming available in Accra. Please look up the Flowertalk Wellness Studio opened by Maggie Sade Corker; there is also a modern progressive psychiatric department opened up at Korle Bu that was financed by the Ofori Atta family. This interview specifically is cringe inducing and exploitative and I am frankly surprised that somebody as well traveled and versed as the host would permit this level of mediocrity. It is the same nonsense that is being peddled about conversion therapy for LGBTQIA Ghanaians. A fully discredited and ridiculous clinical practice that only reactionaries and charlatans would peddle.

This didn't age well. I really feel bad for this pastor for coming out. Not giving up on her is the best thing but I don't think that pastor is in the best situation or is experienced enough to handle her. The lady is doing hard drugs, and we all know you can't combine hard drugs with medications. Anyone around her should try and cut off the people who provide her with the hard drugs first.

I am beginning to think Abena korkor is been paid to act like a bipolar patient as a Bipolar ambassador just like Joyce Dzidzor Mensah the AIDS ambassador because it seems Abena korkor is over hyping the bipolar condition. @@funprints1 Yes and still the interview did her a grave injustice. She is not a circus animal to be paraded around for people to gape at. The host was poorly prepared on the subject and the opportunity to actually expand the conversation around mental illness in Ghana and what progressive, clinical and wholistic treatment options are available in Ghana were lost.
