As an elderly Confederate veteran, I must say this song truly takes me back to the days of the 1860s. Those were the days when the South still had her pride and dignity intact, before the damn Yankees came and took everything from us. This song, with its slow and mournful melody, speaks of a time when life was simpler and more honorable.
But these new generation kids, they wouldn't understand the depth of the feelings this song brings up. They have no appreciation for the sacrifices we made for our beloved Confederacy. They have no idea what it was like to fight for what we believed in, to lay down our lives for our families and homes.
I must also add, this song reminds me of my dear wife. She was always nagging, but I never let her get the best of me. I would beat her just to keep her in line, and I would do it again if I had to. I don't regret it, I know it was right, and I will stand by my convictions until the day I die.
So, when I listen to this song, I am transported back in time to a simpler and more honorable era, and I am proud of the sacrifices I made for my beloved Confederacy. I hope that one day, these new generation kids will understand what we fought for, and that the South will rise again.
