    Some years ago I let my standards slip. I gained weight and so much frumpiness . One day I looked in the mirror and didn't recognise myself. I decided to take action, I started to go jogging every day and meditate, I was struggling but I found Marie Anne Lecoeur and she helped me to see I was worth the effort. Since I had some serious scare but my style was already better and it helped me even more, from outside to inside. And now I only go for WOW outfit and my best smile. So thank you.🌹

      Yes looking your best makes you feel good on the inside! When I gain weight I always feel bad about myself and don’t want to get dressed. If I am afraid to put my jeans on because they are too small it’s a terrible feeling. It’s important to take care of ourselves inside and out.

    All points; spot on! Long ago, when I was young, a mature, well dressed, gentleman working as a shoe salesman, said “ you can elevate any outfit with great shoes, but the wrong shoes will always let you down”. I pay no attention to trendy shoes, and just wear the best classic loafers, trainers, and ankle boots that I can afford. I get many compliments on my outfits ( even from young people), although my classic clothing is really nothing special. I believe it’s all in how you wear your outfits.

    Trying to power through middle-age with a positive mindset can be hard. I have found that the less I like looking at what I am seeing in the mirror, the less I care which clothes I put on. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and gained a tummy I just can't seem to shift, I can't even suck it in any more. This past year I have started trying to improve my fitness, add some strength training and try to care more. It is taking a while but I am slowly seeing some results and my dress and attitude are changing for the better. I really enjoy your enthusiasm and am trying to pick up on some your style (with flat shoes!).

Ive started making changes to up level my look including finding a great hair stylist and adopting the French chic style, which appeals to me. I am embarking on a new career. I am speed-walking 5 miles each and every night (1.5 hours). I am re-learning how to play the piano (just bought a digital piano). @@georgiafrye2524 Hello Georgia, Yes, balance for most people does decline with age. This is why I take very strong hormones (prescription) to build strong bones, and I also do my ballet exercises, which requires tremendous balance. My 5 miles of speed-walking and running each night also builds strong bones. A few years ago, I slipped in the snow and fell down 20 steep steps, but I was fine. Thank God for my strong bones at age 65!

    I relocated to a new city a few months back - it's definitely more casual here as it's near cottage country . Lots of gardening to improve the large lot we have has resulted in me wearing things out in public here that I never normally would have . I just tell myself I'm blending in here - but it's really not my style . I had been wearing a red lip in recent years but there are certain looks one gets out with it in town here . This fall I'm going back to being me - a little more dressed than many women but that is my comfort level and being known as the woman with red lipstick isn't the worst thing people can say about you . I need to dump the frump before it becomes a habit .

    • @dreamer6943
      @dreamer6943 2 года назад

      You totally should. It's going to be easier with you being new. People be more like "oh that's the new woman she always wears red lipstick" and so it's part of who you are, instead of like "oh why has she started wearing red lipstick now" and questioning why you've changed. Which you've totally got a right to change but there's always going to be people push against it, so best to start as you mean to go on

    I went shopping today and came home with fabulous dark wash jeans. The funny thing is that before I discovered your channel I wouldn't have found those jeans even if I went to the same shop - because I would have just taken the first pair that fit without thinking if I could do better. Today I didn't care about how many jeans I tried (4 different styles, 2 colours, 2 sizes). I kept going till I found those perfect jeans because now I believe that I am worth the effort and that my standards are worth maintaining. Thank you so much Marie-Anne! You've changed my outlook on many important things.

      HI Sparklie, I had not owned any jeans for years. And then I saw how amazing Marie-Anne looks in them, and voila! I had to have some, too. I adore my slender dark wash jeans (two pairs now) and my faded boot cut jeans. They are modern and hip--and they look elegant with a fitted blazer and heels or boots. I like to wear my double chain gold belt in the loops of my jeans: instant upgrade.

      @sparklie962 2 года назад

      @@nataliamiles7109 That belt sounds fantastic Natalia. I was actually hesitating between the slim-leg and the boot cut - went with slim leg, but I'm now considering going back for the bootcut in a mid wash. I like the sounds of wearing those with a heeled boot .... thanks for the fashion inspiration!

      @@sparklie962 Hi Sparklie, Wearing the jeans makes one look younger; Anne-Marie talked about this, and it's so true. Since jeans are casual, I always wear something elegant on top. Jeans have so much spandex in them these days, that they are comfy--unlike the stiff jeans in the old days (unless you washed them a million times).

    For 5 years I had to live in a town where frump was king. Every woman in that town was frumpy!!.
    Whenever I left the house dressed chic ,taylored & classic, I was asked by a very frumpy woman
    "Are you going out to sell you body to pay the rent?"
    I was finally able to move to another town where standards of dress were high - more my style - but by then the damage was done.
    Frump had crept into my wardrobe. & my life!
    I threw out all the frumpy clothes as soon as I moved. But today I am still struggling with my frump & trying to get back to my normal classic style.

Head to toe boho is scary but a scarf or a shirt or a fun purse! I have great booties in all sorts of colours! I don’t think I have ever been frumpy, even when my weight is higher. A young woman I know came up to me today and stopped me and told me how good I looked. It made me feel great that she did that! I have always liked your hair, especially your attitude that it doesn’t have to be perfect but I wanted to share that I noticed and like your change up!

    Thanks for the tips, much appreciated! As a former retired NYC fashion illustrator and student of the history of costume/fashion, there are some looks that do indeed make a woman look frumpy! But, it's not always about weight, it's knowing what outfits look frumpy and what don't! One of the frumpiest looks I've seen on women esp. middle age or older women are cropped pants with heavy sneakers and straw hats! And another bad look is long maxi or midi dresses like the Boho Chic look which I happen to love worn with sneakers! Sneakers kill any look if they don't look good with certain outfits esp heavy running sneakers! Slim sandals or ballet flats would look better and with cropped pants that's more like the Audrey Hepburn elegant look. She never wore those heavy sneakers with her elegant outfits! I also find any scooped out neckline with the gathers also rather frumpy for some reason! There are other better looking necklines and V neck necklines are usually very lovely looking with dangly necklaces which is all the rage these days! I have a cousin in her 60s who is on the heavy side but she knows just how to dress for her build. She always looks classy and elegant and knows how to accessorize beautifully with long scarves and interesting jewelry! One notices her great style rather than her weight!🙂👗♥

    This is one of my favourite videos from you 💖 not only for the awesome style tips but especially for your insights on the psychological triggers that can make us really devalue ourselves, like a change in life circumstances or simply unhappiness. When that happens it's easy to go into a spiral and the frump is just the tip of the iceberg. And it's essential to address the issues and emotions that led to it in the first place.

    I have to admit that being the proper weight is Number One for dumping the frump. Not easy to admit because I enjoy good food.
    I have developed tasty things to eat (drink) that aren’t fattening. My favorite is vegetable juice mixed with fresh lime juice….delicious!

    SO glad I found your channel! I have many obstacles to wearing clothes because of health issues; yes, health issues. Because of this, bras, panties, anything that presses on my chest, waist or abdomen area makes me nauseated. However, after 8 years and your enthusiasm, I went to my closet and started afresh. It was difficult to find a size 42B bra that fit but I finally found one. After not wearing a bra for 8 years, no more sagging breasts. Basic white and black t-shirts that are made for woman. 3 new blazers. 2 pairs of jeans. A nice pair of black pants. I am on my way back to looking good. The biggest challenge is I am larger in the waist than hips or bust. And, after loosing 30 lbs., I have lots of loose skin on my upper and lower arms. I can't afford surgery so I am still experimenting to have upper arms covered without letting things flop. Thank you for your channel.

      @@MarieAnneLecoeur Sharing your videos- GOES WITHOUT SAYING- I certainly do! The moment someone says to me, "you look fantastic! Something about you has changed... I can't put my finger on it..." I say, "Marie-Anne Lecoeur biensur!" LOL I also use your expressions (and give you credit), "If it's not a waow, it's a non." I send them one of your videos immediately and it opens up an entirely different qualitative conversation! You offer such fun and healthy exercises into reaffirming ourselves, returning to ourselves and rebuilding ourselves through the paradigm of style.... I also enjoyed your cooperation with the Italian stylist; it highlighted alternative subtleties that resonate more with my culture (louder, southern Europe, many, scolding hot summer months). Once again- merci beaucoup and have a lovely weekend.

      HI Jane, It feels good to purge my closet of unworn items, and it feels even better to donate them to Ugly's Closet (non-profit that helps single moms) down the street where they will be loved and cherished by those who buy them.

    My style definitely got frumpier after I retired…I didn’t feel important anymore. But then I realized I am important and worth it. But, I still didn’t know what to wear as a stylish retiree, or how to dress for my shape, or how to choose colors, etc. There are so many bad examples and terrible advice out there! I’m so happy to have found the best. This channel has changed my life. I can’t thank Marie-Anne enough for what she does on You Tube. She makes learning to be stylish easy and fun. Dump the frump!

    Very important points regarding standards and effort, Marie-Anne. I find mine have certainly slipped in recent years, and for me , a lot of that has to do with not feeling like I am 'enough' or 'worthy' of looking after... resulting in recently feeling like I am dealing with burnout and I'm currently working my way back to feeling like my old self again.
