Make sure to try the examples at the end of the video! And also, when I say “is straight line better” I’m referring to how straight each region is - like the smooth uppermids on the EM6L which has no huge peaks and dips - and not the entire graph. Having a straight line as the entire FR sounds very bad
I learned more in a 15 minutes video than I've ever done in the past few years. Please more of these kinds of videos man, very helpful and informative especially to a relatively newbie like me
Wow this a wiledddd ! Bro I literally just decided after years and over 20 iems to look up a vid that would explain each thousand up through vocals to learn where they get more foward to learn what graph I like
Thanks Jay! I always look forward to watching your videos! Helped me learn a bunch. So I just ordered the Yongse Ruyi Rod cable. Audio Amigo said it is supposed to have a 15ohm impedance built in. If true, will be nice to have a cable like that instead of attaching an extra adapter to my dongle 😂
Nice video, yes it cleard up some graph talk for me, its a good pointer, but im still confused, but it has to be that we all has different ears, as for me Estrella is one of the shoutiness iem i tried, but the Zeitan legend i was afraid of the same after your review, but i has trouble at all with it, Z12 and FP3 Prado for example is sharper than both Estrella and Legend to me, on Legend o dosent even need foam tips, just airy clean bright, but it needs some bas to balance out and be really good. But know people different taste so i try to be polite and dont complain, i learn to read between the lines of all youtube reviewers to find out if it will be a buy or not for me. You always straight forward and i like your reviews.
fantastic explanations. especially for 5khz, before I entirely understood graphs I was so confused about how I didn't like anything I tried, it's because that region needs to be at a very specific amplitude for something to sound natural to me
Looks like it's World Frequency Response Day✊️ Thank you, I love the details, and this is an explanation, and I hope you will do the same thing about EQ and why it affects the elements differently. There are those that appear to have a huge difference, and there are elements that barely change. Is there a way to know how much the EQ changes on the elements before purchasing or how good it is, such as the highest By raising the bass, it may be good for some elements and some not
I think this is good info overall, the main caveat I'd add is that driver types (and we have many when it comes to IEMs, in various wacky configurations) can be one of the biggest determinants of how a your equipment actually sounds. If you are just comparing single DD sets to planar sets (I think this applies to both IEMs and headphones) I tend to find that you can crank the sub bass on planars way higher than you can with DDs before anything sounds too bad or as if you're eating into the mids or the rest of the sound. I also tend to find planars more prone to sibilance than DDs too. The big issue here for me is that you need to know what types of drivers are being used and which regions they are operating in for graphs to make sense - for example, you might have two pairs of IEMs that are both tuned perfectly to something like Harman or JM-1/New Meta but with different driver types and thus a noticeably different sound. You can look at graphs all you want but they tell you sod all about how different drivers sound, how resolving an IEM is or whether it executes characteristics like soundstage or imaging well. I take them with a pinch of salt at this point as I while they're a good indication of tuning and how sound will be balanced, I think the best thing you can do is actually listen to gear when possible.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'd say tuning is 85% of the sound. Driver types mainly influence how smooth you can get the sound to be, ie, EST has the least distortion than BAs, MP, and DDs, allowing you to tune it more "straight" with less peaks and dips. Planars also distort less than DDs so you can push more bass without it being weird.
@jayyaudio I agree but then things like dynamics and soundstage sound different between different driver types to me. Planar bass is just something else entirely for more electronic music but as a drummer, never sounds right compared to DDs for recreating the impact of a bass drum. It feels like planars can sound as if sound is coming from right inside your head or outside it compared to DDs and BAs too but then never sound as natural too. You could get into stuff like open backs for headphones or different room types for speakers too but at least IEMs have less factors affecting their sound from person to person. To me, these are all really tangible and noticeable things though. Graphs just feel less relevant when I own something like the Supermix 4 which is pretty much spot on Harman 2019 but sounds categorically different to something like a single DD IEM or a hybrid IEM as there are different sounding drivers handling the treble, they sound way more dynamic than a planar set tuned to Harman too. In that case, why should graphs matter so much?
Thanks Jay. I appreciate your videos. You mentioned that Ziigaat Odyssey is tuned similar to Storm. Are there any other IEMs that are tuned similar to Storm? Thanks in advance!
I know, but 2 lines of text are too limiting to define qualities of TOTL set. Along with your explanations for different versions for the same makes it confusing to what exactly happened. Is cad 12 and cad 12 2024 the same ? What is even a pre production tuning, was there a retune ? is it even good rec for 2025 ? should i wait for upcoming flagship sets in market instead ? and many questions like that keep coming to mind. i coundn't find review of it in channel considering its at top of the list ? Maybe make a video for TOTL category buyers and market conditions, what should we wait for and what should be skipped ?
do you have a recommendation for something like the tea pro’s but that has less bite? bass texture is great, the attack hurts on certain tracks though.
So hello Jay, i've been followed your vids for long. Therefore i have bought qkzhbb and rosefinch :))) after days of exp, your feeling about these iem's sound signature is so true, so now i want to ask you about eartips, let me continue in this reply below...
Not only these two's bass level, i wana try sth give even more bass. So now there're 2 eartip : kbear 08 and spinfit cp100. According to their brand's intro, they're both bass enhance. So Jay, do u have any exp about these, if yes, i'll pleasure to hear from you. If no, i'll take time research and thankyou again for good review!!!
#1 : good balance. But it might be a bit aggressive for some people. Because almost all frequencies are quite forward. But with quality drivers, tuning like this usually has a high technicality. #2 : Very balanced. One of the tunings that suits my taste. This kind of tuning usually gets better when heard at a slightly higher volume. #3 : Mehhh..! I don't like this tuning. Too much sub and mid bass. Whether the volume is high or low, the sound will always be focused in the bass area. But I can understand why many people like this tuning. #4 : Euhhh..! Graphs like this are usually planar. The dip after 2k - 6k usually makes female vocals sound weird to my ears. And it looks too bright for my taste. #4 : A/n shape? Nope.
Hi, My iems are making a pop sound whenever for example I play or pause a video. Or also when someone starts/stops talking while being on a discord call. I´m using mangird xenns top with a fiio ka17 dongle. Any idea what could be causing it?
@@jayyaudio It must be the dongle because when connecting the iems straight to the 3.5mm port on the pc front panel takes away the popping sound. Any idea? This is driving me crazy
