Let's assume that the neon purple eyeball treat is recessive this means there at worst case scenario would be only one parent with one recessive trait for this gene. A Punnett Square has it so that the mother's traits and the father's treats are on the top and side but I do not remember which gender goes where. Now for the traits at the Top If there is one recessive trait for the purple Gene then it goes downward and the single column with this purple recessive treat would take up half of the total slots and if it was the case that the person composing the genes on the side had the recessive trait then they would still take up half of the slots but they would be the slots making the row rather than the column. Now if there was one recessive trait than this means I would have to be a recessive trait for the same gene in order for it to work, now it could be that there's one for a neona and one for a purple eye that would allow for co-dominance, but neon is not a color- neon is a group of colors. But let's assume that there is one dominant trait so that only one parent can have this then this would mean it is a coin toss as to who gets this trait because it dominant trade overtakes a recessive trait, now if the child were you have one parent with a recessive trait for the purple eye and one parent with a recessive trait then it would be one in four because they only intersect at one spot of the Punnett square. If one parent has both of their slots for that particular trait contain the same recessive trait then this would mean that the other parent has to have at least one recessive trait for that eye color assuming that neon purple is not the result of codominance and this is what allows pink roses because they are the co-dominance for their recessive red trait of a rose and the recessive white trait of a rose when the two colors cross pollinate. Now this is happening with two children so at most there are eight options, there are three outcomes - one child gets the eye coloration, both Childs get the eye coloration, or no children get the eye coloration. This is a trait that both of the children have which means it's either a dominant trait which would overwhelm the recessive trait, or both parents carry one recessive trait for that Gene. This is assuming that there isn't any codominance or co-recessiveness. First off this trait probably wouldn't be the result of that, and second this is assuming they're writers even are aware of this, and that's assuming they didn't just accidentally come up with it because hey if a father has curly hair and the mother has straight hair then wouldn't the child have wavy hair? Except it's referring to eyeball coloration. So I'm not entirely sure of the math for this but I think it's something along the lines of one in four chances times one in for chances. One times one is one and four times four is 16 which means there is a one in three chance of anyone of the particular outcomes - but these are different paths and the pads that are required to get to these outcomes would be more important because the chance of getting anyone outcome is not equal so choosing paths would be better. So there is a one in 16 chance if they have parents who each carry one recessive trait for this, if one parent carries a dominant trait then it is a 50% and 50% per child comes out to a one in four chance at both siblings have it, if each parent has it then there is a three in for chances that they carry this dominant trait for neon purple eyeballs and three times three is nine, 4 * 4 is 16 so that's a 9 in 16 chances. And for one child to have it then well I'm not so sure what to do for that mess, but that mass is irrelevant because we're looking at the likelihood of both children containing this trait, not the likelihood of only one child getting that trait. So there is your answer depending on the three options as to how these children got that trait without co-dominance or recessiveness

One thing that becomes more and more apparent in this series is that the dragons are treated less like characters are more like living props. Save for a scant number of episodes, the dragons literally only serve the purpose of transporting and defending the kids. That's it. When in both the movies and the show of the original series, the dragons had personality traits. Toothless was clever like Hiccup, Meatlug was as harmless as a fly and sweet as sugar, Hookfang would misbehave constantly because of Snoutlout's behavior, Barf and Belch while often participating in the twins' actions still cared for them. Arguably the only dragon that had little personality was Stormfly, but that could be explained away as Astrid is proven to be a dedicated trainer, keeping her dragon in line... much like trainers for show dogs.
You could say that Stormfly was a playful and competitive dragon, but also a naive one. She was one of the only dragons who let random strangers get on her back and actually fly away (of course, when they give her chicken, but still)
5:49 Another point to the conversation: Berk is a self-sustaining village, meaning it had a blacksmith! That’s all the explanation they needed to explain the scale armor and new weapons in each movie. These kids have nothing. Their parents are scientists, so the show has no: ‘My *blank* taught me this.’ excuse. It makes me laugh so much.
I refuse to believe Tom is related to Hiccup and Astrid, cause it has nothing that make them the wise and intelligent leaders that they were. Remember, this is the kid that thought that jumping into the polar bear cage at the zoo was a good idea (even Hiccup took precautions by bringing a knife and a shield when he first meet Toothless before he realizes that he didn't need that). EVEN SNOTLOUT WAS MORE CAUTIOUS THAN HIM!
@@shitanotosaurus heck, even Gustav, which for me is the Scrappy doo of the franchise, was more cautious than him (I mean, he tricked Dagur once and Astrid did choose him to be the leader of the A team, which is more valuable that everything Tom has done until now)

Just wanted the point out: the whole "flight suit has fire resistance because of dragon scales" thing is explained in HTTYD2. Drago has a Dragon skin cape which is resistant to fire. So, it was established in the sequel movie and the characters actually learnt from that. In the show it's just like: oh yup. This is a thing.
K, can I make a request? Fanfic writers, if someone hasn't already, can you rewrite this Nine Realms thing from the beginning? I genuinely want to see how much better fans can write this series than the actual writers have.
I've been thinking about it but I'm just not sure quite where to start. New designs? New dragons? Or just go off what I have and try to work from there?
@@starcycle4308 Definitely don't continue making Tom related to Hiccup in any way. It's so far fetched that I'm pretty sure the writers didn't know what they were aiming for. Maybe go to the concept art Audrie's been referencing and decide a style from there? This is also my personal suggestion, so you don't have to follow it, but I feel like Thunder would have done better being fully a Lightfury. It was constantly implied that Toothless was the last Nightfury in existence, and there's no indication in the animated HTTYD world that different species of dragon ever mingled, so having the dragon be partially black doesn't make any sense to me. But, again, that's just my opinion.
@@lilreith2603 I just don't like the Light Fury tbh lol. I'd be more likely to make him a: a her (so the eyes made sense + the fandom has wanted a female Night Fury for as long as I can remember) b: full Night Fury. That way camoflauge would also make sense because he could still blend in at night and there's more leverage in flying at night with just Tom and Alex since they're the least likely to be seen Idk I'm just bouncing ideas at a wall and seeing if I want to go for it anytime soon atm lol
I remember in 2018 I started writing a "Modern Au" of httyd that was more or less like nine realms but kind of let it aside. But after three seasons of mostly disappointment, I think I'm going to work through that Au with only the power of spite.
I'm starting to. Began by making dragon species that weren't trash, and characters that had depth, and now I'm beginning to touch on actual plot. It's better than the nine realms so far!
I’ve said this in the comments of the season 2 review, but “Buzzsaw” still looks like a paw patrol villain and you cannot change my mind. He just fits right in with the other paw patrol villains
Gronkle: A dragon whose digestive system is designed to literally break down rocks and minerals. Also Gronkle: Somehow has a digestive system that didn't turn another dragon's eggs into mush the second they were eaten. It sure is lucky that those eggs weren't broken by... idk... the jaws strong enough to chew rocks, or broken down by the internal systems designed to derive nutrients from rocks in the time between them being eaten and thrown back up.
Would actually make sense. Gronkels are able to store stuff, and since gronkels do work together with this species it would make sense for them to protect the egg.
They realize that Monsterous Nightmare gel is basically liquid napalm, right? Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think liquid napalm becomes LESS falmmable when dry. Tom should have been MORE on fire!
@@thegamingdino907 gasoline. Napalm is a quick flammable weapon used in wars to set fire into enemy homes and bases to drive them out. Not literally gasoline but something like a stronger version of gasoline.
If I could change ONE aspect of this show is Thunder. He could've been a Terrible Terror. Not only that would be referencing the books and Dreamworks were originally gonna make Toothless that, the Terrible Terror is much easier to hide and work with in a modern world and it's as intelligent as a Fury, maybe even more; In Defenders of Berk "Worst in Show" episode the Dragon Riders trained their Terrible Terrors to do tricks in a SINGLE DAY. This species learns remarkably fast! They can be used as messengers, they're stealthy, and they can sing! The Terror singing bit at the end of "Fright of Passage" should've been longer, I love it too much XD I actually have a theory that Terrible Terrors can be taught to speak like parrots because that scene showed their capability to make an interesting variety of sounds. If people are gonna argue that a Terrible Terror for the main character isn't suitable because he can't ride it, the kids riding dragons kinda defeats the purpose of protecting them in a modern world. You're right, Audrie, they should've left the dragons alone. But if they had to bond with dragons and they really needed their help, I would've picked dragons they couldn't ride and only partner with to help around to keep the scientists from discovering the Hidden World until they give up and cancel the project. Nothing more. Then say goodbye to the dragons, the end. Helping a legendary species stay hidden can be a perfect story. Exploring the Hidden World, a place that is never meant for humans, only results in trouble for the dragons. These kids are irresponsible and know no boundaries.
Some things I noticed about the first episode, 1. Wei can breathe fire so the Monstrous nightmare was completely unnecessary And 2. The stitching on the dragon suits should’ve burned off when Tom got attacked by the fire realm dragons. Still doesn’t mean dried kerosene is flame retardant, though.
So we all agree that Tom's mom and that other evil chick totally had a thing going on between them, right? Also it bugs me how the shield was shining and reflecting light when there was NO direct light to reflect.
“Purple eyes exists! It’s related to albinism” June and her brother clearly don’t have that 😭 also I feel like some people who claimed violet eyes are real have been tricked by “Alexandria’s genesis” aka. A fictional genetic mutation. It was created by a fanfic writer but was then spread around, all over the internet, by people who claimed it was real
There is such thing as albinism that only effects the eyes, but yeah, at least make an excuse that they have, idk, purple contacts, or that June and her father were exposed to magic or something related to the dragons.
Albinos don't exactly have "purple" eyes. It's a blueish/gray light color that can look like purple. It's not neon purple like in a cartoon. Also because melanin is involved in the development of the retina, the thin layer of cells at the back of the eye, albinos have poor eyesight, before you think their eyes are pretty.
I thought albinism gave you red eyes, because the only color came from blood and muscle tissue? How would a lack of pigmentation give someone purple eyes?
@@TheSchultinator Apparently, light just "reflects" different w/ purple eyes, since some people have SOME blue melanin (enough so it isn't entirely blue) and the blood makes red (so light makes it look purple). Also there's a condition where only the eyes are affected, but even then the likely hood of both the brother and the sister having BOTH is literally less than 1%.
@@TheSchultinator some ppl with Albinism still have slightly blue eyes, but there’s still so little pigment that the blood (red) shines through. So the colors mix & the eyes appear purple
Tom and Alex would actually be cute because they’d literally be reverse Hiccup/Astrid. Alex would be Hiccup being the Brunette Nerd and Tom being the Blonde Jock (He’s not COMPLETELY like a jock but he has Jock energy).
Tom and Alex would make such a cute couple because not only are Their interactions the best moments of the show but Alex is the cutest human character in the franchise (In my opinion) unlike Jun who is a complete dumbass who looks like an inbred Fortnite character.
1:05:16 audrie has a huge point when she says that it's all of the kid's faults for putting all the dragons in fatal danger by just being in the hidden world. in movie 3 they made it very clear that humans aren't supossed to be in the hidden world because a rumble horn charged at hiccup and astrid causing chaos. the nine realms threw that all away.
Assistant-Editor/Editor here: The audio being out of sync is a major oversight that we CONSTANTLY have to look out for and make sure that they aren't present in the released episodes/movie. Normally episodes are 1) Reviewed by the editor. 2) Reviewed by the editor AND the director. 3) Reviewed by the director AND the Producer (if they have the time, the editor as well) and before they are uploaded to be released they are also reviewed by the Assistant Editor as well to make absolutely, positively sure that there are no major fuck ups for when it's released. That just shows how... Low effort this all is. If you can't even get the fucking BASICS right.
It might be a result of low effort, but my money's on DreamWorks forcing the team to work with basically nothing so they straight up don't have time to run the double checks they need.
As someone who studied film/production this makes the absolute most sense. The saying "you can fix it in post" only goes so far. If you screw up on sound YOU ARE SCREWED PERIOD. There's another saying "audiences will forgive bad visuals but never forgive bad sound" and that's very correct. Back when I did youtube before the pandemic (I really want to get back into reviews) sound was my major concern, not the picture quality. After all, how many youtubers also started out with bad video quality but at least had good sound quality so ya stuck around as they grew? I remember Jeremy Jahns' first videos had REALLY bad image quality, but the sound was alright for instance.
As a german, a swastika is not the same thing as the nazi "Hackenkreuz". A swastika is an ancient religious symbol, the form of which was abused by the nazis. The symbol shown is not even close to the Hackenkreuz and would not be forbidden to show/wear here in Germany, therefore is not a problem or weird in any way. I get that it gets confused sometimes, just wanted to clear up that it's not problematic or anything to show a swastika, as there are big differences between it and the NS symbol :)
this is the comment i was looking for! it's also a symbol of power and related to thor in norse mythology (which is why it's on the shield) and is a bhuddist symbol
Biology student here Purple eyes are possible but extremely rare but ALWAYS linked to albinism or an eye infection 🤢 unless they dye their hair and have a spray tan on, this is 1000% impossible.

@@thegamingdino907 I mean, there was this thing on tumblr years ago relating to a fanfiction where someone had given their Mary sue oc a super rare fictional mutation that gave them purple eyes amongst other things, and people mistook the purple eye part for fact because it spread so far.
Something I never understood about the nine realms was their decision to make Thunder and Tom descendants of Toothless and Hiccup. It just seems to hammer in that they, like this show, are just the lesser copies of the originals. If they wanted to make a nod to the og franchise, I would have the alpha dragon of the Hidden World at this time be the descendant. At that point, it'd just be a lightfury, but I think what would have been cool is if Toothless's bloodline continued to teach their children how to draw like he did, so the riders could effectively communicate with this alpha dragon through drawings. It'd at least be cooler than the inbred tuxedo cat dragon.
Sorry to reply to a year old comment, but this actually gave me a cool idea. What would be cool would be if this alpha light fury was the main antagonist of the show, constantly trying to hunt down the kids and eventually attacking to research base. But they eventually come to an understanding that the alpha dragon was attacking to protect the hidden world from human influence, and with the help of the alpha dragon and its control over all the other dragons they conclude the show with them sealing the fissure to keep the dragon secret. It would be even cooler if the alpha dragon was protecting some kind of archive hiccup decided to leave behind in case the hidden world was found again, explaining his message and his love for the dragons and that’s what convinces project Icarus to keep them secret, to honor everything hiccup worked for. They wouldn’t even have to have retconned the thing and say hiccup just Willy nilly moved his family to the hidden world. Just that when he met up with toothless again at the end of the third movie, he decided to visit one last time to leave behind those archives
I'm honestly hoping for some kind of twist with Tom, like him being related to Grimmel or one of the Thorstons. one works with him being related to the opposite of hiccup, and the other explains his stupidity.
Another great review! Also the lack of Tom and Thunder moments and how they just expect us to feel for them like we did with Hiccup and Toothless without any of the chemistry is just criminal. If Tom and Thunder will have to separate by the end of this I quite honestly won’t give a shit because the show sure as hell doesn’t
54:38 There *is* indeed more to making a sword than just metal. As you said, they need a forge, complete with tools that can hold heated up metal as well as tools to form and hold the heated sword's blade. The blade, as well, would have to be heat treated so the blade doesn't break. Then the sword usually needs to be put on a sander to sand down the material as well as to sharpen and polish the blade. And that's without even going into the extra materials for the guard, the handle, as well as the pommel.
1:04:12 There it is. Audrie finally exploded. Couldn't handle seeing more of this. I'm glad you spoke all of that. Every single time a new season is made, I really, really from the bottom of my heart, hope it turns out good, that the twist is finally going to happen. But no. It keeps on dragging itself towards nowhere with no reason. it feels repetitive. At this point, I would only be hoping out of pity for the show and empathy for the people behind it, who are probably underpaid and burnt out.
Considering each season is being released literally months apart, that wouldn’t surprise me. When this show finally ends, I really hope all the creators and writers get a much needed brake cuz they really deserve it.
I grew up with hiccup, everytime a new movie came out, hiccup was older and more mature, and so was I I celebrated triumphs and heartbreaks, and so did hiccup Thats one thing that make the originals so great This just feels like it was made for 2 year olds to keep them entertained for a short time
34:05 Shouldn't have re-read the books before watching this season, I coudln't just take the episode seriously without imaging Snotlout's dragoness with a glass of wine and a tired expression venting about her hate for Toothless every second they said "fireworm". For the main deal we still have the: parents who can't find out the truth 'cause the villain lady would as well vs kids who have to deal with it and various dangerous dragons.

While the name isn’t really explained, I feel like it’s fairly obvious that it’s cause of the fact that there are/will be nine realms (including the fire & crystal realms). Still so weird that they haven’t explained it in canon yet, and it’s been 3 season 😭
It just dawned on me that hybridization is a thing, I don't know why the designers of this show didn't discuss the possibility of different dragon species cross-breeding with one another. Imagine a Night Light and a Monstrous Nightmare offspring, or a Gronkle and a Hideous Zippleback offspring.
Right! Plus it also would have actually continued the biological dragon lore that Race to the Edge had put in place. For example: Since the nightlights would have been able to breed with the obvious light fury population within the hidden world, the lightfuries’s semiaquatic build to toothless’s more aerodynamic build, it was an entirely missed opportunity to follow the animal-inspired dragon formula and make Thunder look shark-like with grayish stripes instead of the uncreative and overly-inspired “night-light” abomination.

Purple eyes are actually possible with contact lenses and considering how much purple Jun wears (obviously we know what her favorite color is), it's not unreasonable that she would wear contact lenses to make her eyes purple with her real eye color most likely being brown like her mother and brother. I loved the "cats getting in the way" of you burning a shirt scene of your video.
I have thought that her favorite colour is purple thanks to her purple eyes being unique, because even if we don´t know about people having purple eyes, I woldn´t really mind her having a totaly rare mutation of purple eyes, which would really make her (and her brother) unique and it would be good reason to have pride in it and so it being her favorite colour.
@@shadowbeast9671 Well,in that case she is even more special and younger siblings often try to prove that they are just as competent as their older siblings,so I think that her wearing clothes of the same colour as her totaly unique eyes just to be sure that everyone see how special she is kind of makes sense.
@@goosegas2087 Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it just because it looked cool, but it wouldn't really take much effort to just claim it a mutation or contact lenses(most likely) and it actually works with Jun since she has an interest in Mythology and could be seen wanting to have unique colored colored eyes. At least they didn't make it so that all of the kids have unnatural eye colors. They could've had Jun's eyes be two different colors to match her Dragon/s having two different colored heads.
51:05 seeing that background clip of Walter crying desperately without context always makes me laugh, which is actually ironic because it's one of the best examples of a scene with good storytelling
Reason why I watch Nine Realms: to see what dragons they can come up with, with the fact that it's been years for said dragons to adapt and change over time... One might say we've seen that... But only slightly. I personally would have been happy if the show was just about a small group of humans discovering the Nine Realms and getting trapped there, now trying to find a way out. And maybe coming across a descendant of Birk's vikings who, for some reason that would be explained when they show up, has been researching viking history and finding the old tales of Hiccup and crew or something. And this guy, with this knowledge, is trying to figure out how the Nine Realms came to be when all dragons were sent to the hidden world.... Idk just my half asleep brain's idea for a plot this show could have taken where in said scenario could give the excuse to explore dragon ecology... But legit would take a nature documentary style short series like that too though😅

I bet that when this series ends, the kids are finally going to realize what they’re doing is causing more harm for the dragons rather than protecting. Now I know that this is exactly how the third movie of HTTYD ended, but seeing the course Dreamworks is taking with its show, I do think this might be the company’s choice of ending. Or they just have all the adults at the lab, (I don’t know how to spell the name of it) and they give us a cliffhanger for either another season or another series. Just to let you know, this is not my opinion of how this show should go, I don’t think should have even been made in the first place! But this is what I believe the choices the company has to choose from. P. S. None of the adults at the lab did anything for this billion dollar project, it was only centered around kids.
The thing with them being upset with him for taming the dragon would make so much more sense if it was more attached to the main character than the mc was of it, and he wasn't planning on keeping it long term.
*[ I've made TWO edits to this now after realizing just how easily they could've fixed the show's premise, and each one makes me more pissed than the first ]* If it makes you feel any better, the only reason I'm even watching Race to the Edge (and Riders/Defenders) is because of your videos, so I hope knowing that you're making more fans of the shows helps make it worthwhile. Also I just want to point out that if the show actually focused at all on the adults doing things, *they* could've been the ones to open the realms while doing their research and driven the plot, with the kids trying to undo the damage and ultimately stop the project with the aid of the dragons. THAT could've made for at least a SOMEWHAT compelling story. But dare they not imply the government could ever fuck things up catastrophically when they don't listen to people, I guess, because it's not like that's ever happened in real life several times and technically currently still is on a GLOBAL FUCKING SCALE. Not like that would've been a good message for the kids or anything. EDIT: THIS LITERALLY WOULD'VE TIED INTO THE THEMES OF THE FIRST MOVIE WITH THE YOUNGER GENERATION SHOWING THE OLDER GENERATION WHY THEY'RE WRONG, THOR FUCKING DAMNIT. *EDIT 2: THIS ALSO WOULD'VE TIED THE SHOW INTO THE IDEA THAT HUMANITY STILL ISN'T READY FOR DRAGONS, ACKNOWLEDGING WHAT MOVIE 3 SET UP AND GIVING IT A REASON TO ACTUALLY EXIST, AND WOULD'VE SHOWN HOW MAJOR CORPORATIONS LIKE TO DO ANYTHING PROFITABLE REGARDLESS OF THE HARM IT WILL CAUSE TO ECOSYSTEMS. Just noticed something weird. At the start of the first episode, specifically at around 7:35 onwards, Wu & Wei repeat the animation where there look at each other for a moment, then look forward again. Not sure about the other dragons, but they certainly do throughout that part of the scene. Edit: yeah, feathers does it too lol. At first I thought it was Audries editing, but the camera is more zoomed in the second shot.
I think a modern spinoff of httyd would work much better in a 2D show, similar to how disney handels its adaptations like in Big Hero 6 and Tangle, and those concept arts seem to reinforce that. Plus do you remember those 2D flashback scenes with Gobber in Legend of the Boneknapper? I think something like that would look awsome.
I was watching your first few videos for like the fourth time and thought I’d share some of my own thoughts. 1. Some of the backgrounds look like they could just be jpegs. Like the first time the fire realm is ever shown in that silver place in the crystal real. 2. I think one of the reasons why thunder looks so ugly is because not only is his face weirdly snapped, he’s too scaly. Toothless has a lot of scales, yes, but a lot of his on his face and body are incredibly hard to see. Even in the tv shows. 3. That shield that June finds makes absolutely no sense. How the hell did it get there? Is it one of the OG riders shields? Why is it unbreakable unlike macey from Race to the edge? But most importantly why does it exists? I think it would be cool if that shield wasn’t just a random shield, if instead it was hiccup’s shield. One might be able to infer that either toothless was given the shield somehow to remember hiccup, or if he took the shield to remember hiccup. That would give better ties back to the other series then that stupid chest thing. 4. Where the hell did that skrill go? Did it just drop into the “you don’t exists” hole? Did the brony fleshlights do that too? 5. Why is it suddenly inhumane to train a dragon, WHEN THEY ALREADY DID THAT. They say that feeding that fanghook reject in return for its fire is inhumane when THEY DO THE EXACT SAME FOR THEIR DRAGONS! They all have give and take relationships with their dragons. They get to ride around on it and in return they feed and love the dragons. 6. June’s dragon fear came out no where. I do believe she didn’t have that fear back with those other spider dragons that actually looked like spiders, and then it is never brought up again to my knowledge. 7. When Tom said that he didn’t need a forge my brother and I were both equally angry that he said that because that stupid silver thing would need a forge. It’s need to be reshaped, and made sharp. Lava can’t do that. 8. Is Tom immortal? He’s fallen from such high heights and survived so much that if I were him and started to notice that, then I’d strip but naked and jump into lava to see what would happen. 9. Are they going to redeem Buzzsaw like with dagger? Also Buzzsaw’s name reminds me of taserface from guardians of the galaxy 2. 10. How did their hands not burn off when touching the megachonker? He’s established to be very hot, so all of their hand should have severe burns on them. 11. Why are there 2 spider dragons? And why is James Charles’s one so big, and why does it look more like a chameleon then a spider? The only attributes that make it remotely like a spider is the 8 legs. 12. Are they trying to insinuate that Thunder is the ‘last of his kind’ thing like with toothless. 13. Where the hell are all these Mcguffin items coming from? The authors toilets? Yes it could be inferred that humans lived there at one point in time, but that still doesn’t explain how they got there, why they use the strike class symbol, and why nobody knew about the hidden world. 14. How did that chest thing get into the walls? Is there a crystal shooting dragon that we haven’t seen yet that locked it away? 15. Why aren’t the Terrible Terrors a fire realm dragon? I hope this is the last I can think of, but if I think of more, then I’ll come back and edit my comment.
Wooo this dropped right in time for dinner! Usually, I watch the whole season myself first but I actually couldn't make it through this one. The horribly done plot of episode four just killed all my motivation to keep going so I decided to wait for your review instead. Gotta thank you for highlighting all the good Alex moments so I didn't miss out lmao Fun fact: the monstrous nightmare horns aren't the only animation error in the first episode. Right around the same time as the horns, Jun randomly switches which dragon head she's riding between shots...who knows how many times that's happened throughout the show that I didn't notice
Wait a second… The adults do little to almost nothing They have invested “over a billion dollars” But they could be trespassing on land they should be allowed to work on Is this the first instance of a money laundering scheme in a kid show?!!
If they needed a fire dragon to test the fire proof suit, why couldn't they just use Wu or Wei?! (I forgot which is the fire head). Also, maybe June's suit is purple because red and blue from her dragon make purple! (I know, that's dumb too and probably unintentional)
6:00, there’s also the fact that in movie two, Hiccup and the gang saw Drago’s cape/outfit made of dragon scales, which could be where they got the idea to make the dragon scale armor from.
The greatest HTTYD reviewer on RUclips returns! Until later this week when my video comes out! 😛 But all jokes aside, this video is incredible! The fact that you managed to go above and beyond with the interview and each episode in ways my videos could only dream about really shows just how much potential you have to become one of the greats! Looking forward to that Christmas present that is the Season 4 video lol.
Okay but why do Eugene and Buzzsaw literally have more chemistry than Tom and June. Like even the names Eugene and Buzzsaw sound better together than Tom and June.
Dragons: The Nine Realms as a title is probably meant to imply the exploration of nine existing realms in the hidden world that the kids will explore. Makes sense kinda.
I just want to say that I was aware of the existence of this show, but didn't know that Dreamworks thought it needed more than one (any negative adjective) season
The attention to detail you put into these reviews is more than DreamWorks can pull out of their ass with their thousands of dollars in budget. JEE IF ONLY SOME COMPANY WASN'T SO WILLING TO MAKE A CHEAP BUCK AND PUT THE FRANCHISE IN SUCH A BAD (fatal) LIGHT. Congrats on finally finishing the video!! Loved it (as always)! Absolutely taking the L with that "Dragon Eye" lol. The show had crippled my expectations...
The only thing that I liked, using the word loosely, of the season is that I was absolutely convinced that Eugen would be the rider of the other head of Fu and Fei, and then they pulled the rug and gave him a gremlin spider loking dragon, catching me completely by surprise. Also his interactions with Buzzaw are... oddly adorable I still pretty much hate the fact that there might have been some sort of civilitzation or expedition that already explored the realms - hiccstrid kids is my bet - but like it generally goes against what the ending of httyd3 was about, and if there is anything that I hate more than that disapointing poorly argumented ending, is the fact that they are flip-flopping about the one reason it gave of because berk couldn't just move to the Hidden World.
The main cast causing the problems for the dragons could have been a really good theme about Human's interfering with nature IF they acknowledged it, but they ignored for filler. I completely believe that some writers wanted to pursue this theme which is why the season focused on it but the executives probably pushed for filler instead. It just goes to show that even if you have the most talented and passionate people in production corporate greed will stop the show being any good.
13:48 While I agree with the fact the mentioned episode lacked story structure, there are more types like kishotenketsu which is an eastern story structure you might enjoy researching
The fact that I started saying "No- No NOOOO-" when I saw the "3rd season of The Nine Reams" in the description... Im still reeling on the fact they named the guy "EUGENE FITZHERBERT" I cant see Flynn in Junes brother.. Spain without the S. Still as always, a great runthrough of the whole series.
23:35 I swear if this was the only scene I had seen of Olivia and Sledkin I would assume that the writers are creating some kind of romance between them.
Literally all of the scenes with the 2 of them that Audries shown in this video are leading me to believe that Tom’s gonna have 2 moms. I don’t remember if they had chemistry in the first 2 seasons (which I did watch, haven’t seen the third though) but they definitely did in this season
You're one of my favorite background youtubers, which sounds like an insult but my "put it on while drawing" youtubers I hold in extremely high regard and are some of my favorites
The part where the siblings are supposed to work out their differences should have ended with them agreeing to share Juns dragon. Could have been so easy to have the siblings parallel the twins by sharing a two headed dragon
I feel like Tom's guilt over the Fault Ripper could have made sense and even been interesting if his moral dilemma was over the idea that he possibly didn't have to attack the dragon and could have trained it instead or something. That plot point, like a lot of the others, COULD have been done well but just wasn't.
1:09:59 Im going to go batshit crazy if that thing is a replica of the dragon eye especially with the whole race to the edge show ending with hiccup deciding that theyre too dangerous to be kept and destroying it
33:06 caught me so off-guard 🤣 I love your sense of humor, never lose it! You manage to edit it into your videos so nicely! :D Thanks for doing what you do!
I know this show is hot garbage, but I actually really like the design of the sky torcher! That head shape is great, and overall the silhouette is pretty damn nice. Probably the only redeeming thing from this season (if not the show overall). It doesn't seem like it would be out of place in the original series either.
I'm genuinely aghast at the length of this video, I'm pretty sure the season is probably similar in length too, and yet the critique is almost an hour and a half long, holy crap, I commend you for your dedication o7
I don't actual mind the weird spindly, spider dragon. As someone who read (most of) the books there were multiple species of Nadder. Deadly Nadder, Puff Nadder and of course the Eight-Legged Nadder. Webmaster resembles this last one to the T, save for it being vastly up-scaled in size to be capable of being ridden. That and it's web spinning abilities, that being said Eight-Legged Nadders only got a brief scene in the series.
I’d really like if they focused on two things. 1 Project Ickerus. 2 the kids learning about dragons. Then I’d be perfectly fine with them bringing things in from the other shows. And then they’re saying “Wait wa?” And trying to figure everything out. Also I found that diamonds aren’t the strongest thing in nature. One thing that’s stronger is titanium.
Soooo these are all the moments of Alex being a queen i could find this season, so far... i think, i´m afraid i missed some. Enjoy :) 8:08 36:47 37:46 39:05 41:33 45:40 47:25 57:19 btw, Audrie, i´m sure you´ll have no time reading this, cuz you gotta mentally prepare yourself for the 4th season of Dragons: The Nine Realms, and the last thing that should happen to you is a mental breakdown, but thank you so much for introducing lots of newcomers (myself included) to the HTTYD Francise. I for my part have only watched snippets of the main films and some episodes of various series, that´s all. till i stumbled across your video. ruclips.net/video/VnIDCoJlpP0/видео.html I love how much effort you put into your video essays, how objective you are through out the whole thing, whilst having a blast at bashing/disecting certain plot points. ( can´t blame you lol) so yeah, keep up the good work, i hope that your channel continues to grow. :D
Soundtrack composer here! 34:28 It's actually really easy to produce the choirs heard here with virtual instruments nowadays and it sounds to me like that's what they used, since they're all just basic vowel sounds. Still sounds neat though. :)
It's astonishing how much and how little happens in this season. I was also so shocked at the opening of the first episode I had to check to make sure I was watching the first episode and not the second because the ep just starting with Tom in the suit threw me off so bad! Also, not to shamelessly plug my own channel, but I redesigned their dragon suits to look more like the dragons they're riding: ruclips.net/video/vgWL1heHwEM/видео.html And I've never read the comics, but I might have to enter that shirtless Hiccup contest lol
33:34 Y'know, from hearing this scenario, I just remembered that these kids are meant to be apart of a school program. I don't think there's really been any episodes that revolve around that plotline (I haven't watched all of the episodes from any of the seasons so correct me if I am wrong) I think it would have been an interesting episode to have the kids be stuck at school one day, and the dragons come out of the cave to look for them, or just explore, and interact with the company and little things like vehicles or hell even the sheep that walk about. And when the kids realize the dragons are causing mischief, they have to try and sneak away or fool the teacher somehow. It probably would've been better for season 1 since they already go out and about a lot more now, but that's just my idea. Just give me any good form of plot ideas from this show pleeeaaase
I want to make a note at 34:10 here as a music person. They probably didn’t hire a full choir. They probably had their sound team get a sample library of a big choir (something good and realistic like Storm Choir for example) and just spliced it in, most people won’t be able to tell the difference. Listening back to it. That’s definitely just a sample library, and not precisely well masked either.
You should call the dragon" not fanghook" you know like " not dagur" also will you be surprised if next season will have some of the artic dragons from httyd 2 and did you notice that "not fanghook" walks like a nadders instead of a bat or pterodactyl.
Every single one of these videos are such a gold mine. The jokes, the criticism, the way you can portray most of our shared emotions on how this show is just shitting on the original HTTYD, through jokes and funny anger is. Great. Thank you for this.

THREE, THEY MADE THREE- IT SHOULD HAVE STOPED AT ONE OR ZERO
The fact you set a shirt on fire just to prove science in a kids show is gold!!

Arguably the only dragon that had little personality was Stormfly, but that could be explained away as Astrid is proven to be a dedicated trainer, keeping her dragon in line... much like trainers for show dogs.
theres also the scenes Stormlfly has with Eret in the second movie
You could say that Stormfly was a playful and competitive dragon, but also a naive one. She was one of the only dragons who let random strangers get on her back and actually fly away (of course, when they give her chicken, but still)

It’s like a rock salt lamp. You first just lick it out of curiosity, then it all goes downhill from there.
That way camoflauge would also make sense because he could still blend in at night and there's more leverage in flying at night with just Tom and Alex since they're the least likely to be seen
Idk I'm just bouncing ideas at a wall and seeing if I want to go for it anytime soon atm lol
I remember in 2018 I started writing a "Modern Au" of httyd that was more or less like nine realms but kind of let it aside. But after three seasons of mostly disappointment, I think I'm going to work through that Au with only the power of spite.

1. Wei can breathe fire so the Monstrous nightmare was completely unnecessary

So we all agree that Tom's mom and that other evil chick totally had a thing going on between them, right? Also it bugs me how the shield was shining and reflecting light when there was NO direct light to reflect.

“Purple eyes exists! It’s related to albinism”
June and her brother clearly don’t have that 😭 also I feel like some people who claimed violet eyes are real have been tricked by “Alexandria’s genesis” aka.

It is still used across Asia in temples and religious symbolism.
this is the comment i was looking for! it's also a symbol of power and related to thor in norse mythology (which is why it's on the shield) and is a bhuddist symbol

This is the nine realms you don't need logic
I'm not a forger by any means and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you also need water or some coolant to cool down the blade after heating it?
@@maximavenue Yes, water or oil. To cool and harden the blade.
Plus, isn’t silver a soft metal? Wouldn’t making a sword out of it be like making a bow out of particle board? As in, probably a bad idea?
@@blakecook9266 I'm not sure what that sword is made of.
The savagery and hilarity of you fixing their audio issue in like 10 seconds... Well played, Audrie, well played :)
I know she was holding all that in from the first season
I swear it's just like what Bojack Horseman said on the episode Free Churro
It's like Becker

Shouldn't have re-read the books before watching this season, I coudln't just take the episode seriously without imaging Snotlout's dragoness with a glass of wine and a tired expression venting about her hate for Toothless every second they said "fireworm".
Don't know if I should thank them for giving me something to laugh about during the episodes or just say "Damn books"😂
Also: gotta love Eugene and his character arc:
>Appears
>Is an anoying shit the whole time and force himself in the group
>Gets shipped with a psychopath by almost curing him with the power of psychology
>Becomes the second best character after queen Alex
>Refuses to elaborate further
>Almost kill the psycho
Can’t wait for the conclusion of Buzzsaw and Eugene’s enemies to lovers back to enemies arc in season 4
@@Weirdanimalboy me neither.
Honestly, to have such an interesting turn of events (those two having a subplot like that) would be one hell of a surprise, it could even cut off Buzzsaw as a villain Dagur-wanna be (why chase the Thunderbird when you can chase the guy who almost murdered you?) and give us an interesting comedy, don't even care for the shipping etc. just the comedy.
For the main deal we still have the: parents who can't find out the truth 'cause the villain lady would as well vs kids who have to deal with it and various dangerous dragons.
I love I can actually picture this with the audio book voice
Lmao fireworm and toothless always had such a beef…same with newtsbreath hating on toothless for being so scrawny lmao
i refuse to believe that the writers actually watched the shows/movies and just read like a short summery and one of those RUclips top clips from each💀
Of course! They have NO passion!😔
I love how they ignore the fact that the fire worm has the heat of the sun and can melt your skin. Ruffnut even mentions what happened to Tuffnut when a bunch landed on his skin. So why the heck is Alex holding a fireworm with her barehands either the writers forgot this detail or she’s superwoman (39:55)
because the writers are actually terrible
If I were an artist of some kind, I'd go through all Hiccup footage and look for any injuries he sustained as inspiration for any scarring on his chest. Lil fun tip for anyone looking at the shirtless challenge.
While the name isn’t really explained, I feel like it’s fairly obvious that it’s cause of the fact that there are/will be nine realms (including the fire & crystal realms). Still so weird that they haven’t explained it in canon yet, and it’s been 3 season 😭
Toothless: I’m so disappointed of what we have become
Thunder: Woof woof I’m a mutated cow dog
I like to think that Dragons The Nine Realms is placed in an alternate timeline where everything is meaning less.
It just dawned on me that hybridization is a thing, I don't know why the designers of this show didn't discuss the possibility of different dragon species cross-breeding with one another. Imagine a Night Light and a Monstrous Nightmare offspring, or a Gronkle and a Hideous Zippleback offspring.
i feel like SOD (school of dragons) is our only source of decent dragon hybrids.
@@thegamingdino907 aren't they just using models from titans uprising?
@@lucyandecember2843all of those are fucking hideous. The only hybrids in the FRANCHISE that look good are the Chimeragon (the Bewilderbeast/idfk hybrid) and the Graveknapper (the Boneknapper/Screaming Death), the rest are fucking hideous and should be forgotten forever.

The fire shirt part was an example of true dedication to the cause of showing us just how much bs they've packed into this show. Also I really enjoy your videos, I find it somewhat hard to find really long reviews and stuff for things I like to watch here on youtube, and I salute your efforts and the pain you've endured just to watch this. It really shows you care despite the long rants, or perhaps because of them, and I and likely many others enjoy these videos because of it.
That's true, but do you really expect the writers to put that much effort in this crap show? They probably just thought it looked cool.
@@tefky7964 Actually, from some screenshots I checked, her brother's eyes appear to be brown.
I actually laughed out loud when she put jello on the cardigan.
34:37 as a media composer, John Powell and Hans Zimmer enthusiast, The sad reality is they 90% didn't hire a choir. Nowadays, sample library developers are offering great choir virtual instruments for like... less than 200$
Honestly, I see it as a good thing. These allows smaller composers or those with smaller budgest be able to make track with a nice sounding choir.
I understand that having real humans performing usually sounds nicer, since it'd be less robotic, I think making these nice samples more attainable is a good thing.
@@halinaqi2194 Oh, I absolutely agree. I feel blessed to be entering the community for orchestral programming with all these free and cheap options popping up! I mean, hello? The quality of Spitfire's new Originals choir is insane!!
Wait a second. If they need a dragon to breath fire onto the suit of armor, why didn't they used Jun's dragon.
A lot of these problems remind me of a quote I heard 2 days ago while LARPing: "Magic solves problems which would not exist without magic."
The thing with them being upset with him for taming the dragon would make so much more sense if it was more attached to the main character than the mc was of it, and he wasn't planning on keeping it long term.
Notice how the hidden world went from a hole in the middle of the ocean to a cave middle of the mountain💀
*[ I've made TWO edits to this now after realizing just how easily they could've fixed the show's premise, and each one makes me more pissed than the first ]*
If it makes you feel any better, the only reason I'm even watching Race to the Edge (and Riders/Defenders) is because of your videos, so I hope knowing that you're making more fans of the shows helps make it worthwhile.
o.o
Gotta thank you for highlighting all the good Alex moments so I didn't miss out lmao
Fun fact: the monstrous nightmare horns aren't the only animation error in the first episode. Right around the same time as the horns, Jun randomly switches which dragon head she's riding between shots...who knows how many times that's happened throughout the show that I didn't notice
great to know more suffering is being dropped in my birth month...happy late birthday to meeee
Wait a second…
The adults do little to almost nothing
They have invested “over a billion dollars”
But they could be trespassing on land they should be allowed to work on
Is this the first instance of a money laundering scheme in a kid show?!!
not the first
If they needed a fire dragon to test the fire proof suit, why couldn't they just use Wu or Wei?!

But all jokes aside, this video is incredible! The fact that you managed to go above and beyond with the interview and each episode in ways my videos could only dream about really shows just how much potential you have to become one of the greats! Looking forward to that Christmas present that is the Season 4 video lol.
What about the "dragon eye" thing......🤔
The show had crippled my expectations...
hold up. dad was proud of his son being an animal doctor in season 3.....and in season 7 was pissed about it.
The only thing that I liked, using the word loosely, of the season is that I was absolutely convinced that Eugen would be the rider of the other head of Fu and Fei, and then they pulled the rug and gave him a gremlin spider loking dragon, catching me completely by surprise. Also his interactions with Buzzaw are... oddly adorable
I still pretty much hate the fact that there might have been some sort of civilitzation or expedition that already explored the realms - hiccstrid kids is my bet - but like it generally goes against what the ending of httyd3 was about, and if there is anything that I hate more than that disapointing poorly argumented ending, is the fact that they are flip-flopping about the one reason it gave of because berk couldn't just move to the Hidden World.
Damn Hiccup would be looking down in disappointment
The main cast causing the problems for the dragons could have been a really good theme about Human's interfering with nature IF they acknowledged it, but they ignored for filler. I completely believe that some writers wanted to pursue this theme which is why the season focused on it but the executives probably pushed for filler instead.
It just goes to show that even if you have the most talented and passionate people in production corporate greed will stop the show being any good.
Seeing Audrie wearing a Camp Half-Blood shirt was a happy surprise that supports my theory that HTTYD fans and PJO fans overlap quite a bit
I’m glad the new seasons come out so fast...not because I want to see the show, because I want to see Audrie lose her mind😂
Plus it seems like a dick move to take the dragon your sister is scared of
Nice to see Alex has slowly been getting better and better!
I feel like Tom's guilt over the Fault Ripper could have made sense and even been interesting if his moral dilemma was over the idea that he possibly didn't have to attack the dragon and could have trained it instead or something. That plot point, like a lot of the others, COULD have been done well but just wasn't.

Im going to go batshit crazy if that thing is a replica of the dragon eye especially with the whole race to the edge show ending with hiccup deciding that theyre too dangerous to be kept and destroying it

Eugene hitting Buzzsaw over head my favorite scene out of the whole show lol
I don't actual mind the weird spindly, spider dragon. As someone who read (most of) the books there were multiple species of Nadder. Deadly Nadder, Puff Nadder and of course the Eight-Legged Nadder. Webmaster resembles this last one to the T, save for it being vastly up-scaled in size to be capable of being ridden. That and it's web spinning abilities, that being said Eight-Legged Nadders only got a brief scene in the series.
how blond boy doesn't have severe spinal injuries is beyond me.
Enjoy :)

Soundtrack composer here! 34:28 It's actually really easy to produce the choirs heard here with virtual instruments nowadays and it sounds to me like that's what they used, since they're all just basic vowel sounds. Still sounds neat though. :)
That's what I thought. I'm pretty sure even Garage Band has a choir synth built into it.
It's astonishing how much and how little happens in this season. I was also so shocked at the opening of the first episode I had to check to make sure I was watching the first episode and not the second because the ep just starting with Tom in the suit threw me off so bad!
Also, not to shamelessly plug my own channel, but I redesigned their dragon suits to look more like the dragons they're riding: ruclips.net/video/vgWL1heHwEM/видео.html
And I've never read the comics, but I might have to enter that shirtless Hiccup contest lol

Y'know, from hearing this scenario, I just remembered that these kids are meant to be apart of a school program. I don't think there's really been any episodes that revolve around that plotline (I haven't watched all of the episodes from any of the seasons so correct me if I am wrong)
I think it would have been an interesting episode to have the kids be stuck at school one day, and the dragons come out of the cave to look for them, or just explore, and interact with the company and little things like vehicles or hell even the sheep that walk about. And when the kids realize the dragons are causing mischief, they have to try and sneak away or fool the teacher somehow.
It probably would've been better for season 1 since they already go out and about a lot more now, but that's just my idea.
Just give me any good form of plot ideas from this show pleeeaaase
New Nine Realms video?! Time to binge the other two reviews in addition to this one. Thanks for the content 😊
