GOT MINT+ PHONE TODAY,LOVE IT
Not sure if you are still reading this comments as it's and older video.. Just wanted to share that when, we turn our phones back on from airplane mode something happens in the background.. UPDATES.. yep.. all those automatic updates that would have happened during the time it was in airplane mode, just goes ahead and automatically updates themselves and racks up the data usage. I had a different carrier and learned quick, before leaving a wifi spot, to turn my phone service data back on so it will do the automatic update before I leave.. That didn't solve the problem completely tho. so I ended up going to every installed program and apps and manually 'turn off' the automatic update for each one. That way the phone will ask you before it updates any of them. you simply click 'no'.. and when you are back home in your home wifi turn your phone off then back on and it will ask for each update one by one.. click yes.. and let them update.. It will ask you again later if/when it has another update. if your not home just click no.. That way, no surprises.. .. Hopefully I explained that ok.. I think you at least get an idea of what I mean to say.. Thanks for the video.. :))
The sketchy gigabyte issues are a non starter for me.
I've had mint mobile for a couple months (switched from verizon) On my 12 hr rides to west Texas I haven't noticed and real change in my service....except the much lower cost. I love mint so far

A bit late to the game, but I think it's worth mentioning that "lack of a family plan" isn't a bad thing when the primary reason to get one is for a discount, but switching to Mint is already a bigger discount.
I thought the same thing- is he also mad that the dollar menu doesn’t offer combo meals? Lol

They have family plans now.
I think you can add a family line for $15 extra per month. Something like that....
They cost the exact same as the single lines. Just a grouped account.
We switched years ago from Tmobile to Mint and never looked back. We noticed no differences at all. One our best buying decisions ever.
Hi, can you get you tube on Mint mobile? Also, I want the 10 GB plan. Have you had any issue, such as this man stated?
@@rebeccalavoy6655 zero issues and our son watches utube (we use app) on the road with no issues. My wife & I are on the 4gb plan. I believe key factor is that your near a strong tmobile network (since this is what mint mobile uses). We are in the Philadelphia area and tmobile networks are strong here. First research how strong tmobile network is in your area.
There should be zero issues, mint mobile uses T-Mobile towers so it's basically T-Mobile lol
Mint mobile uses T-Mobile towers so your service should be the same.
Mr. Hammill, and everybody, I am just seeing your comments now. Thank you all, for your input. I just bought a mint mobile 7 day trial card. So now, I will get an idea of how good the signal operates here 😊
I used mint mobile from 2018 to 2021 and it was absolutely AMAZING I am not exaggerating when I tell you I have NEVER had one single problem for the entire 3 years I was with them. The only reason why I switched was because I fell on hard times and couldnt afford the bulk price.

I've had mint for a few months and have noticed no difference at all. With AT&T I was paying about $120.00 a month with mint I pay that same amount for every 3 months ! It's been a life saver since I'm in nursing school and barely have time to work 40 hours at work anymore.
Check my data on a regular basis because it sure gets used up really fast even if you're not using it. I now pay $25 a month with visible unlimited 5G talk text and data with unlimited hotspot
$120 a month 😵💫 That's $1500 a year. Don't see how anyone can afford that
@@bumblbesss exactly why I switched !!!!! These mainstream phones companies will take every penny you have its ridiculous ! My dad pays with at&t about $130.00 a month for him and my mom's plan I keep telling him to switch to mint ! Way way way cheaper
@@jennifertorres3051 Yea, sometimes people are afraid to switch to something different for fear of losing out altogether. Especially if they feel they have built a Relationship with a Carrier. People feel obligated sometimes
@K, U aren’t a KILLA no you can keep the same number all you have to so is call your current carrier and ask them for a transfer pin # and make sure you know you know your current account # and you'll be able to transfer the number
I'm going to guess that your mystery data consumption is related to apps - particularly Google. When I was activating my new phone, I noticed in the set up that Google had defaults that would allow them to constantly send and receive receive information from my new phone - if I allowed it; I would suggest switching all of these that you can to the "off" position. Besides these being entirely invasive and an disgusting invasion of privacy, I would guess that this is probably one of the most significant causes of your (invisibly) depleted data usage, despite your own, actual low usage... and I would further suggest you inspect the setup of any and all other apps you may have installed on your device.
Indeed, also it looks like they he’s using an iPhone which has a ton of tracking features that eat up data. Same thing, you gotta turn off all the default tracking/update settings. The best way to use a limited data plan is to sanitize the apps on you phone and make sure you aren’t updating apps off of WiFi.
To update - Netflix is not blocked on any of the plans but resolution is capped to 480p on the unlimited plan. Some users have been able to bypass this restriction using a VPN. (Speeds btw are throttled down to 2G after 35GB of use on the unlimited plan.)
> Speeds btw are throttled down to 2G after 35GB of use on the unlimited plan.
What does that mean?
2G is not a speed is it? It's an amount of data isn't it?
What really happens when you hit your Mint Mobile supposedly unlimited data limit?
Wouldn't your connection speed just get slower?
What is your normal speed at the beginning of the month?
Then what happens when you hit your limit?
@@justgivemethetruth 2g is very slow but unless you only use data and never plan to use wifi not likely an issue. Pretty much any plan you pick will do the same.
@@Random-ed2xf a representative told me it goes to 3G
@@christian-zs8uy It even says 2g on the site plus they are shutting down 3g.
Yeah the company never let anyone know that they made this switch on the unlimited plans. For someone like me, with shoddy work public wifi and otherwise no option for keeping my mind focused at work, I started wondering recently why my speed dropped to nothing. Just found this out today 🤬
I have had Mint Mobile going on 2 years. The data usage seems to be only cellular usage because during a month Mint recognizes the use about 25 gig but there was one month where 35 gig was exceeded. I am NEVER in airplane mode but always in WIFI calling mode at the house so I believe it knows its using data from the WIFI system rather than the cellular data.
I am in my first year with Mint and haven't noticed any data 'leakage' and don't use any more than I did with AT&T. My friend who took the plunge with me has a phone they use for work it never leaves the building or goes off wi-fi and on a 4gb plan they literally have 3.9gb left. I think the date issue is most likely phone related
Or maybe some softwares that phone installed and maybe those app did something while the phone is not under the WiFi.
I have switched to mint more than a year. I just renewed for another year few months ago. I always use the internet for listening clubhouse and Google map through cellular data while 15~30 minutes driving.
Two years ago the plan started with 3GB cellular data cap. Pretty soon they upgraded that basic plan to 4GB with the same price, $15. With 3GB I might ran out of the data at the end of a month. But now with 4GB I really don’t need to worry about it.
And the WiFi calling function with Mint mobile, when the cellular signal is bad, is beautiful! Way better than the Google Fi I tried 3 years ago. I had iPhone 6s Plus 3 years ago. Google Fi WiFi calling function won’t work on that phone.
I keep my data turned off just so I can make it from month to month. I have to use wifi maybe at&t has always used to much for you and you just haven't noticed are know there are better data plans 🤔

Dont do it. Cricket is FAR BETTER
I have been using Mint Mobile for going on 3 years now. I have myself, my daughter, my mother and father, my goddaughter and her grandmother all on Mint Mobile. I have yet to have a problem that restarting the phone didn't fix and that has only come up 2 maybe 3 times across all 6 phones and 3 years. I can't say enough good things about it. The cost of these numbers compared to our old AT&T is less then half the price and I have yet to ever not have a signal. There have been a couple of places where signal was week, but I have never not had a signal.
It is so cheep I upped my data and now use my phone as back up internet access for home. Our internet doesn't go out often, just often enough that it's nice to have an inexpensive insurance policy in the form of my mobile connection. If your consider trying Mint, I strongly suggest you give it a go.
I have a second phone I use for gaming and I used to have Mint. I don't need phone and texting -- just data. Mint was fine. It just had stuff I don't need for that second phone. I ended up getting a data-only plan for $10 a month from Tello.
Now, I am in Texas and when we had our big freeze blackout, everyone in our house lost access to the local AT&T cell towers. Luckily, the Tello plan includes free hotspot service. My second phone allowed my wife and I to stay in touch with the outside world, during that crazy few days.
Transferring from Ting to Mint mobile is taking longer than 48 hours. They gave me a temporary number, which means they expect this problem. It becomes an issue because security set ups on banks and other always send a text to the phone number on file. So anyone transferring a number to Mint mobile make sure you have several days where you are not going to have incoming calls to the number you are transferring.
Thank you. That is very helpful advice!
Transferring from Verizon, currently on day 6. They added the temp number to the SIM card instead of my wife's number and they can't fix it. Now we have to pay to activate her line back to vzw
@@dakotaplatt6619 My mistake was that I used the Ting SIM card in another phone while the transferring was in progress. So it took a month to transfer. As soon as I removed the SIM card my number was released and transferred.
The 480p video restriction is only when you get the unlimited plan , that’s why I changed my plan to the 15gb a month which work better for video streaming.
This is a good point. They also begin throttling after 35GB of use on the unlimited plan.
I don't understand. What is the unlimited plan? Are you referring to 10 GB? Juan, I am not fully understanding the first sentence in your comment. I watch alot of You Tube. Would 10 GB possibly last three weeks out of the month, before the video slows down or buffers?
@@rebeccalavoy6655 I had the unlimited plan but video streaming is limited to 480p meaning you can not watch higher video quality so I switched to the 15 GB for better video streaming quality but it could not last the whole month if you stream video too much.
that's super weird that you get punished on video quality for a higher tier plan. can you just switch to wireless at home and get normal quality? I watch stuff alot at home
@@sleepycharlie673 Sure ! You can switch to WiFi at home to get the best streaming experience.
Did you turn off wifi asist mode it uses ur celluar data if ur wifi connection is slow for a while
This is happening to me as well. I was on T-Mobile prepaid for over a year and was using 6-8 a month. No changes mind you switching to Mint and now I can’t make it a month without being at 10GB
Thanks for the video. I too was surprised by the amount of data I supposedly used, as my former company Google fi that I used while overseas rarely surpassed 3 GB per month. When I hit 4 GB this month after only 3 weeks, basically using the same usage I've been doing with Google Fi, it made no sense. I still have no idea why I'm using so much data, as I am usually on wifi, and when on data rarely do any type of streaming. Perhaps a youtube 3 minute video here or there. Gonna try the 10GB plan for one month now that my 3 month trial is closing, and if that works out at $20 a month, great. If not, Google Fi was always great to me!
Please update your experience once you up the data. Thank you.
Check your phone settings. Make sure your mobile data is turned Off when you're not using it.
You don't need mobile data when using wifi.
Don’t know if you can get 1month at $20/month. That is only for the yearly plan, so you would have to do 12 months to get that rate
I'm at the end of 3 months on Mint Mobile and the deprioritization in various parts of San Diego have been horrible when using Google navigation and streaming Spotify at the same time. I passed through the same areas last month using the same apps and same phone and still got LTE. Now the same areas drop to Edge speeds.
UPDATE: I now have a phone with 5g and have no more of the issues above. 5g appears to take the place of what were 2g areas.
Good to know thanks.
@@thuyvuong9874 Actually there's no more problems now that I have a phone that receives the 5g bands.
That's a significant caveat! You may have apps that run in the background and update their info while not in use. I think it's called "Push Notifications." Just turn them off if not critical.
I tried to pin down a data leak but couldn't track down an obvious one, especially during the airplane mode tests.

What kind of phone do you have?
On my iPhone if I go to Settings -> Cellular
it shows me how much data I have used since the last data reset, and that is divided up by application.
I turn off most applications.
There was a situation where for some reason my home wifi was not connecting to my iPhone, and my iPhone would flip into Cellular data mode. I had to troubleshoot that, and now need to made sure my phone is connected to wifi, but have not had a problem.
There is also a Wifi-assist function that automatically supplements the wifi signal with cellular data ( which I have turned off ).
I wonder if that could override the cellular data off setting?
telegram will fill up your phone and hammer your data no questions asked
I had this issue at first. My WIFI was weak in my bedroom and often would not connect to my phone. I got a mesh network that increased the WIFI signal strength to my bedroom and now I use much less data. Before I fixed my WIFi, I was using up my 10 gig of data in 3 weeks. After improving my WIFI, I am using under 4 gig a month. I switched to Mint when I got my new phone (Samsung S22 Ultra). My new phone seems to not connect to weak WIFI signals, so getting stronger WIFI seems to greatly reduce having the phone drain cellular data.
What is a mesh network?
@@AndrewAlvarez-py1zz mesh network is basically these routers set in different parts of your home so you get wifi everywhere in your home equally instead of unequal wifi signals throughout your home. Since one router won't be able to connect to everywhere.
They are great for a secondary sim. I run my own OS using Mint when I am in the states.
ive had this problem with my previous carrier, but I was thinking that my phone must have been losing internet service without me knowing and then I would be using data without knowing until I got the message I had gone over my limit.
I currently use Verizon with an unlimited plan but have been considering switching to mint mobile for a cheaper price. I'd like to get unlimited with Mint but video streaming is then limited. I get it though, their video streaming is limited based on the structure of their service but knowing data usage is an issue for people I'm not sure I'll change yet. I can't get unlimited due to the streaming limitations but I also do not want to deal with my data artificially hitting max (may not happen to me but it's possible since it's an issue for people). I guess I'll hold off until that issue is fixed.
Jay, I am clueless 🤣
Can you explain to me, what the unlimited plan is? And why it means that video streaming is limited?
@@rebeccalavoy6655 No problem :) Sorry it's a long comment:
Unlimited means you have unlimited celluar data usage. Basically, it's internet connection through celluar towers (varies based on the provider though, more towers in more locations are better for internet connection).
Other data plans are limited to the giga byte amount it specifies like 5 gb plan, 10 gb plan, ect. Once you reach a set data limit per pay period (monthly allowance) if you continue to use celluar data your provider will charge you (penalty price varies with each service). With unlimited plans that penalty can't happen since there isn't an allowance of data but instead you use whatever you want but it's more expensive. In most cases too expensive which is where the interest in much cheaper services like mint mobile comes in.
The video explains everything regarding that tbh Since providers like mint mobile borrows celluar data structures for their service from major providers if customers have the unlimited plan they will not let you stream videos because though unlimited they can't afford the overload of a bunch of people streaming data heavy content. So mint mobile's unlimited plan isn't that good imo since I stream videos a lot like youtube, hulu, etc. It's better for people who do not stream.
Mint Mobile's other data plans would be nice since you can stream (limited to 480p though, if quality matters for some) but as explained in the video there's a chance customers may hit their data limit early for an unexplained reason and due to being cheaper they have less to offer with tech support/customer service so they do not have an answer for it yet (unless that has changed since this video). So this is why I put up with my current provider, I stream videos a lot so this service isn't for me unfortunately. At least, until they figure out why people cap their data limits early.
@@midnightjay
They cap because they can, also because they are Crooks, that don't have to talk, to you or see your face. Their usage gets high, your ass is capped, like Whaaaa?
This guy played their game, they got Busted.
I switched to Mint from Cricket and also noticed the data usage is higher with Mint. I signed up the promotion deal, 3 months of unlimited plan for $15/month. I don't have a home wifi and data usage was about 50-60 GB per month with Cricket. With 7 days of service with Mint mobile, the data usage has already surpassed 20 GB. The unlimted plan has 35GB cap on high speed usage limit? Cricket had similar cap on unlimited plan but I never had any slowing down even though I surpassed the cap every month. I am planning to get the router in a week and see what my data usage will be. After monitoring their data usage for 3 months and will change plan at the end of promotion period.
So would this be good for someone who mainly uses good wifi at home and just needs unlimited texts/calls for work with SOME data for loading information/ blueprints at work? ? I don’t use social media or play games and I’m tired of paying so much for a plan with ATT
@@DARKWOLF-td1lw Yeah. I think so. If you need a small limited mobile data, mint mobile is good. If you use a lot and need unlimited mobile data, don't get Mint mobile.

In addition to our two regular lines, we have to kids watch lines with Tmobile... are those able to move over to mint mobile?
I switched my mother's carrier from Verizon (she was a customer for almost 30 years) to Mint Mobile. Mint mobile customer service was very rude and disrespectful. They sent me a new SIM card for my new, unlocked cellphone. When I got this new SIM card, we wanted my mother's Verizon number instead of the new, temp Mint Mobile number. This was an issue for over a month. Most of Mints employees acted like the problem was with me or the cellphone. I was not happy with the rude customer service at Mint Mobile. They service seems to be better than Verizon though. -

One question about the data so theirs the new 15gb plan does the data you purchase is it only for that month or can you add more data to the plan and not have 15gb if you have the 35gb can you do the same instead of having 35gb can you add more data to your plan or does the data is only purchased for that month cycle
Can u keep your old number or have to get anew number
I was a T-Mobile user. I had been with them for quite some time and decided to add a line. The first bill I received was double what it was supposed to be. After a few calls I find out there are a bunch of fees involved, which was odd from a company that bills itself as a "no extra fees" company. I switched to Mint and it's been great. I opted for the 4 Gb plan and have never even hit 1 Gb because, like foXnoMAD when I'm at home I use my wifi. I paid $360 for 12 months service on two lines or about $400 less than what T-Mobile was costing. I'm about half way through my contract period and if the service remains as it currently is I'll definitely renew.
I've had Mint for 8 months and I love it. No issues with data what so ever for me.
I had AT&T years ago and I switched over to Sprint wireless. I had sprint wireless for 13 years never had any issues. Now they’re T-Mobile and it’s complete garbage my bill went from $85 a month with sprint to $144 a month. I always had unlimited everything talk text and data with Sprint. Now that T-Mobile merged I’m very upset because that’s way too high of a phone bill for one phone. I keep getting all these text messages stating that I’m using too much data so my speeds will be lower since they merged with T-Mobile. I called T-Mobile and ask them what is the deal why am I getting all these text messages and they said that I should upgrade my plan . I’m really thinking about getting mint mobile for my 10-year-old son to try it out I might switch to prepaid.
Mint does give you another option to try which might end up saving you money. Let me know how it goes!
That almost sounds like the iphone thing a while back where an update automatically turned on the setting to use lte when the phone didn't feel the wifi signal was strong enough. I remember that ticking a ton of people off.

Biggest difference with an MVNO is prioritized data. Main carrier customers have priority over the MVNO customers.
I've been using Mint Mobile for years very satisfied. Tho it's not exactly 30 dlrs monthly. There's a sales tax 6% for me also some sort of regulatory fee whatever. Probably close to 400 yearly.

I had Mint for two months and I always had buffering issues. Halfway through first month slowed to a crawl, the whole second half of the month was horrible. Second billing cycle started and everything was okay until I went beyond a certain amount of data, halfway through again, and buffering again! Paid extra $20 and only got 10 more gigs. I knew I’d be running into this same problem again and again and paying more money each month, so I switched back to T-Mobile ☹️. I really needed to save money but this did not work, and their customer service was not nearly as good, not happy. I thought unlimited meant unlimited ☹️
No service has complete unlimited but mints 35gb of fast data is the same as any other. I’ve had it for a year and a half and went over once but that was due to data being used by apps that didn’t need to when I wasn’t using the phone. RUclips has lots of videos of what to turn off to keep from using data you don’t need to.
Same, basically. Even after we reached our data limit with TMobile, we could still stream with little buffering. With TMobile you did get preferential treatment.
With mint, once the data is gone, you're barely getting by.
I've been using mint for about four years now (4GB now 5GB/m plan) here in east north dakota (betcha can't find us on a map) and I can safely say that it's been the better experience compared to verizion where I started out. I actually had to badger my mother who had been persisting with verizion because she had photos in their cloud. "Like mom with the amount of money I'm spending on a full year, you're only getting two months, you should switch!"
Hey thank you for reviewing and explaining how Mint Mobile works. I was curious if you tried any other streaming services on Mint Mobile since you pointed out that Netflix won't work on Mint? Mint won't be a worthwhile venture for me other streaming apps like Hulu and Prime don't work on it
I'm currently working on a few reviews right now, keep an eye on this channel! 😉
I have been using Mint Mobile for 5 years and referred 2 of my relatives. Although I keep getting spammed by Mint to refer others to receive a bonus, I have never received anything for referring my relatives. So much for being a longtime loyal customer. Looks like I'll be researching a new MVNO.
So you're going to bail on Mint Mobile just because you didn't get a referral discount and don't like that they send you occasional referral ad? What a stupid frivolous reason. 🤣🤣
@@mrspeeddemon727I know right? Ridiculous thats the OP's only reason to COMPLETELY switch.

i have it as a second backup phone. its cheap and service is ok, however, dont expect stellar tech and customer service. the number i was assign to was probably own by an Ecuadorian. i get calls all the time from ecuador. i get text messages calling me diego. i called mint mobile but its hard to get a live person. matter if fact, i never got one. i then tried the on line chat. finally got a live person but he was no help and could not block all international calls. as i said before, as a second backup phone its a great value but thats it.
its probably phone settings. most people leave their phones bone stock or they change one or two settings... but there are TONS of background refresh settings and others like it that eat up data and battery.
I've been with mint mobile for over a year. Never looked back and I'm loving the service. I pay $30 a month for unlimited.
Having Mint was one of the worst phone experiences I've ever had and an absolute nightmare with customer service! We had Verizon previously for as long as I can remember. Basically, I was going to have to start paying for everyone's phone, so I switched to Mint so that I could afford it, which was a terrible mistake. We bought 2 new phones from them as well because we needed new ones and mine was practically unusable the entire time I had it. After our year was up I tried getting a new phone, thinking that maybe the issue was that I went cheaper because I couldn't afford it. Unfortunately, they sent my phone to a completely different state which they blamed me for, but all of my information was correct on my end. Then instead of helping, I was the one that had to track down the phone and have it sent back to them because they said it was my issue and they happily were going to keep the money that was spent for the phone. Luckily, FedEx was amazing, and had to go to the place it was dropped off at several different times because the people that lived there accepted the phone and weren't going to return it, apparently. It eventually, again thanks to FedEx, was sent back and returned to Mint Mobile. They eventually sent me a "new" phone which arrived broken. Their return process is horrible it took me months on end just to receive a "return authorization code." to send it back to them. I had to literally call them EVERY SINGLE DAY just to get it. You always get a different staff member when you call, all they ever say is that they will escalate your issue to their return department, which they don't do. If you try to ask for a supervisor, they are always too busy to talk to you, and if you do get one, they always say they can't help you either. They blame YOU a lot for their own mistakes. They have a policy that you must start the return within 7 days of receiving the phone and throw it back in your face as an excuse to not give you the return. When I first received the defective phone, as I stated before, I called every single day to return it. Note: When you call, ALWAYS keep track of who you talked to, what time you called, exactly what they say, etc. KEEP ALL DOCUMENTATION! Because they WILL lie and say you didn't call, they don't have any notes in their system that you called even when staff members claim they are writing notes for the next person, etc. Even though I called every day, I had a staff member claim I was out of the return policy of 7 days because they didn't write notes that I called, or escalate it when they said they did, and whenever you do call, they say that it is out of their hands and they are waiting on the refund department who you can't call or talk to. The mysterious refund department is supposedly a different department for them but I had one staff member say it was literally just downstairs. Apparently, their call centers are located all over the place one lady said they were in the Philippines, another said in Taiwan, etc. They love to tell you that you will get a callback, which you never get. They also love to hang up on you, which other staff members tell you they "cannot do." But they absolutely can because they have been hung up on so many times by them, which I have recorded. Eventually, I was finally able to get the broken phone sent back to them with the authorization code that took me months to get, and they received the broken phone. Also, they make you pay to return it, which you will never get reimbursed for. Then we tried to get our refund, but instead, they decided to send me ANOTHER RANDOM PHONE THAT WE DIDN'T ASK FOR OR KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT. To have them again refuse the refund because I "had a phone from them..." Months later; I yet again called every single day...The only time they ever started to do something to help me was when I got the Better Business Bureau to assist me as well as other establishments. Because through this transaction, they weren't just ripping me off but other companies as well. This entire process of them calling me a liar, refusing to pay me back, hanging up on me, lying left and right, etc. took 6 months of my life away, having to call them every day as if I was a loan shark because they just wanted my money that badly. And reading other reviews on the company shows that, sadly, I'm not the only one that this has happened to. After this incident, we happily switched from them to T-Mobile. We are paying more than Mint but getting many benefits and WAY better customer service. With T-Mobile we are literally getting free streaming services, etc. I will never go with a company that doesn't have a physical location again. All of this could have been avoided if I could have just walked into a store to get the phone and then brought it back in if it was broken; to get it fixed. What an utter nightmare and half a year of my life wasted!
are u seriously expecting anyone to read this detailed thesis?
@@MrSpiderlions if you want to know what detailed issues you can expect joining Mint then read on. If you want to just go with them because they are cheap like I did then good luck to you. I'm not forcing anyone to read it. But not reading someone's honest opinion is what got me months of fighting with them to get my money back. Whether you want to read is your choice I'm just trying to warn people of how shady they are behind their cheap price.
@@deadsetondreams1988 Call your credit card and dispute. No problem.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 I did, my issue was that I was on a payment plan through Affirm I believe. So Mint had taken all the money from the bank they go through. and I had to make payments on it. I couldn't just get the money back by calling my card. The bank needed the amount back first to refund me the payments I made initially. Phones are so stupidly expensive, but I needed a new one because the one I got through Mint was total trash. It barely worked the entire time I had it, and it just worsened as time went on. I needed the phone for work, and was having to borrow my dad's while this mess was happening.
@@MrSpiderlions I did.
What resolutions are you watching video?
I have been with Republic Wireless which recently sold to DISH & started having the issue with data disappearing unexpectedly. I found that the service would go off WIFI when I was home, quickly depleting my data. I have been monitoring my WIFI since then, sometimes miss -- but it is this & changes from Republic that are making me consider Mint Mobile. It sounds like I could have similar issues with data usage...
I have had mint mobile the past 6 months and learned the hard way that the "unlimited" plan ISN'T fyukn unlimited!!!!
After 35gb they throttle you to 3g!! Basically giving you mid 2000s speeds.
It's only cost effective if you're also using wifi most of the time if not all of the time and not really using your cell phone that much for GPS.
If you're 100% on your phone all the time w/no wifi access you'll piss through 35gb quick.
One month I hit 46gb and those 12gb I went over the cap was especially slow and brutal.
You can buy more data but they'll rape your pockets. Its like $15 for 5gb or $20 for 10gb.
If you start buying data that really eats into your savings so buyer beware.
Please explain the recovery fee? Do I have to pay that as a one time payment when I sign up? Or do I pay that fee with my bill
to give a heads up to those living near ortonville MI service at times can be kinda low in certain areas!
I have a lock to AT&T iPhone XR .,., does mint support AT&T
I have a Bluetooth app running all the time. It receives data from a Dexcom glucose monitor and insulin pump. Will this affect the type of data plan that I need? I cannot run in airplane mode. What is your recommendation?
The Bluetooth connection won't count towards your data, it's how much that app is or isn't sending or uploading information to the cloud. I would guess it's not large amounts of data but you can check the settings of your phone for the last month to get an idea of the data usage.
I’ve had Mint Mobile for years at this point on three different iphones (love it). For people having issues figuring out which app is using your iPhone data you can look in the iPhone cellular app and it will tell you. I was surprised at which apps were taking down data without my knowledge, so I turned cellular data off for those apps. The way the content creator is trying to manage this via “airplane mode” is not recommended.
So I have TMobile no contract at 43/month but capped at 10gb/month it's fast but I travel for work now and their is literally full bars of signal but it's at 430kb/second which is the worst should I give this a try?
I have a question. I just signed up for Mint mobile, and I am having some issues involving a phone that I bought from Amazon that I had to return because it appeared to be locked. So, I bought a new phone from Mint mobile's website, which I should receive in a couple of days. So, I haven't actually been able to use the service yet. So, my question is this. Since I'm an older lady, and I hardly ever go anywhere, I won't really need the data at all, except on extremely rare occasions. I will have it turned on just wifi while I'm home, and will have the data turned completely off. Not just airplane mode, because I will need my talk and text...but the data completely off. So, if I turn it off, will it stay off? Or does it turn back on by itself sometimes, without the user's knowledge?
If you turn off data from the settings, normally it will stay off (and default to wifi). Hope this helps!
@@foXnoMad thanks. That's what I was hoping.
Even if your phone is connected to mobile data.. your phone will still use wifi at home
Do they charge taxes in Pa on top of the plan prices ?
Very good video. You get right to the point, very organized and informative with the information that you share 👌
If you could answer two questions please.
1. Can I receive You Tube on mint mobile?
2. If you purchase a phone through them, do they have name brands, such as Samsung? My budget for a new phone is 300 dollars. Is that price range possible with them?
Thanks - glad my video was helpful (hopefully helpful enough for a sub!) To answer your questions, the first is yes, RUclips won't be a problem. The second is best to check on their site directly, they are always adding phones. I just did a check though and there are several options at or under $300.
How does Mint work in Amarillo Texas, and also Colorado?
I cannot believe how expensive phone plans are in the USA. In the UK you get unlimited calls & texts & 100gb of data for £12 a month, which is about $14.
The US is much larger so a much larger network needs to be maintained so it is more expensive
Capitalism at its finest
Total sham wow in America. Criminals every one of the phone companies. Ever phone bill in America. Has a service fee for fiber optic. But only ten percent Have access to it. 🤔🤔🤔💩
It's probably because of the Republicans that are so anti-regulations . That way companies can fix prices easier because of no or fewer regulations compared to where you're at .
Great informative video mate 🙏🏽
I think I will go for the unlimited anyway so that should eradicate the data problem, right?
I typically use no more than 3GB a month.
Either way it’s better than the $144 a month Ganster bastards Sprint.
I appreciate that, happy to hear my video was helpful. I used the unlimited plan later on and didn't run into any issues and the service is good. I'd recommend starting with a lower plan (potentially for a shorter term) and see if you hit any limits, if you do, you can always increase data plan if you want. You might be able to save even more money this way.
@@foXnoMad So you never did get that data mystery figured out?
Just get Tmobile prepaid . they have 50$ and if 2 lines goes to 40$ per person and your network is faster and prioritized . I loved Mint but when I needed it most apparently somehow Mint speed went super slow and got me annoyed . If Tmobile has these plans nobody needs mint or services like that .
Me and my husband have the same thing with Boost and the service is great...I just wanted to see what people are saying about mint...I think we'll stay where we're at..
What one do u suggest then?
I had mint mobile for a while and I switched out from it to Google Fi because it had a higher monthly limit of 50 GB instead of 35 GB on the highest plans
How is Google Fi?
@@theeotakufam6825 it's been really good
What about the quality video streaning?streaming?? They said after the 3 months or year the video quality drops to 480? I'm not sure about this can anyone confirm this
Quick question? are you able to keep your present number or must you get a new number?
In many cases you can port your number over. There's an option during the setup.
What kind of an answer is that in many cases you can Port your number over? Either you can or can't and it would seem ridiculous that you cannot Port your number over so what is it?
@@vidpic8311 The answer was, in most cases you can, but not in all. You want a black and white answer where one isn't possible.
We've had Mint for over a year and I wouldn't go anywhere else now. I love the 3 month billing. Best service I've had so far.
I dont know where Mint sent my sim card from but i ordered it at about 230am and received it around noon or one o clock next day! I live in central Wisconsin and Mint is located in California. First three months were ninety bucks then one twenty thereafter for unlimited. I have had no problems nor complaints!
What if I’m at home on my wifi? It will still only stream in 480p and not stream netflix? Returning this sim chip right now bc it came in the mail today.
I use another MVNO in the US called optimum through our cable provider. My wife and I have been using it for over 2 years with no issues. We get unlimited everything for $20 a month so my wife and I only pay $40 a month total. No contract. I get 300-500mbps at home using the 5g service here on my zflip 4. It's going to take a very compelling offer for us to ever switch.
on the fence over changing and you helped a lot. What do you think about the drop to #15 for all services ? side note, sub'd
@foXnomad did you get your data issue settled with Mint mobile?
I’ve found that Apple’s OS will turn on the hotspot on my phone whenever another one of my devices loses it’s internet connection… I suspect it has to do with all of apple’s device’s needing to report to their servers the devices locations for the “where is’ app. I’m constantly having to check all my devices to ensure hotspot is turned off and that their not using the WiFi in this fashion because it drains all my devices batteries in addition to the data usages.
I had "data inflation" problems with Consumer Cellular yrs ago. They kept upgrading/charging me more for GB increases after our "honeymoon period." . Then I noticed, when THEY were happy/satisfied, (around 10 GB think it was) all of a sudden I wasn't using as much GB anymore (or as fast, etc.) Noticed same thing now lately with Total wireless (Verizon). Crappy internet speeds seen lately too. Want to switch to Mint but am thinking this is the industry standard or "playbook" move (to increase profits....ahem). Wondering how long a "honeymoon period" is with them. Hmmm.......
Thank you so much for this video. You are super clear and concise. I appreciate good quality content informing me about this type of thing. Invaluable!
Thank you!
Do you have to pay the whole 3, 6, 12 month plan up front, or can you pay it off monthly but you're locked to to Mint for that period of time?
You prepay it all at once. Note if you do Mint Family (2 or more lines linked together to the same account), they'll let you have the 12 month rate but only pay for 3 months at a time. Mint is SO much less expensive than AT&T was for me (and works better too) that even if I leave a couple prepaid months on the table, it's still a win only a few months after the switch. In my case with 2 low-data lines, a year of mint costs less than 5 months on AT&T.
You did so good at explaining ty!
Thank you!
This is the BEST video on Mint mobile erev! Thank you the information. I expected to have to search for and watch a bunch of videos to get the answers I need but this channel covered everything!
So happy to hear it, thank you!
Our problem is we live in NE Montana and it’s hard to get good consistent coverage. We’re with Verizon and have been for a long time now. It’s ok, but it does drop a lot of calls. The local network of NEMONT tries to choke everyone out who isn’t with them directly. I refuse to be controlled by them AND their services really stink when you’re not right here. So…not sure what to do! We’re running on fumes around here in finances and I’m looking anywhere I can to cut.
Could the data issue be a result of calls and text messages being transmitted using the data connection?
It's unlikely, here's an update: ruclips.net/video/XqPRrSEUZrQ/видео.html
If you select the $15 plan will that change or can you stay in this plan? I don’t need a lot of data since I work from home and have 😂Wi-Fi I seldom use my data during the day. Can you keep your number if bringing your phone?
Check the website if still looking. 3 months free. $15/4gb, $20/10gb unlimited talk/text, keep your phone number and phone if unlocked.
I used to have California Lifeline (Obama Phone) but I’ve had to switch providers so many times!!
I’m really thinking of switching to mint!! So I can keep my service active!! I rarely leave the house and use my data, maybe for shopping list, or browsing the web while at the doctors!! So I use about 2.5 gigs ish a month!!
🙃
✌️❤️
So how does it work as far as paying your bill?
I’m currently paying for my service and for my phone
So how would billing look like if I switch to mint?
You pay $75 for 3 months 4 GB 😌 or go with a different plan but it’s one payment for however long you choose for it to be. I’m with Mint mobile currently. You don’t pay for it every month
I had bad experience with mint. I wanted to switch but when I put in the Sim card in they said it was ready but it wasn't. So I decided to go back to my previous carrier and they wouldn't port my number back, but now I know that is illegal. I AM WITH ting which also runs on t mobile.
Switched home phone to Mint Mobile first using old T-Mobile phone. My regular mobile was with Total Wireless at the time but Verizon wasn't good in rural area so bought a new Metro unlocked phone and switched it, too. Like the cost and network but two things bother me... First is technical support is shady. Had forwarded my one # to the other & it wouldn't unforward. Tech had no clue & took forever to fix on back end. Then, they told me that my new phone DID NOT have WiFi calling. I argued that it was in settings & it was a MetroPCS phone so should work on TM network but they said their tech notes said no. Thank goodness for RUclips to show you had to put in airplane mode first. Called back & told them to update their notes! Now, need to replace the older T-Mobile phone from 2018 but only way to get a deal on one is to sign up new with different email and transfer to new Sim card. The customer service person told me. They have zero upgrade discounts/options for established customers. You have to pay full price to replace if you start with your own phone. Could've saved $50 on new phone but too close to renewal to wait for new Sim, etc. Would cost half the savings to buy one month extension. 😔
@@savagebob911 - I was confused by this, too. 😆 But on my latest LG, when you turn on airplane mode, it will show msg that it will disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc., but all can be turned back on in airplane mode. So just enable in that order... airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi calling. I've always had LG phones and this was first that I've had to enable like that.
So?? Whats your update on the data issue??
The biggest catch is data prioritization. Data slows to a crawl between 5pm and 7pm when people are on their way home from work. I went back to an AT&T MVNO where data prioritization isn't a problem
my issue with mint is the recovery fees….if they are still using it. they claim to give you things, but at checkout they hot you with recovery fees that total what they gave you “free”. i purchased a year plan and the recovery fee they charged me was equal to the monthly amount, so i basically paid for 13 months but only got 12 months of service. so they are able to charge you for whatever free they are giving using recovery fees.
