Grew up with his music he was my grandfather's good friend , I'm 22 and grew up with all types of music but at my age as weird as it is Americana music is my most listened and love at the moment , idols such has Towens ,Leadbelly , The Carter Family, Bob Wills all the way to Flaco & Santiago Jimenez and my Tejano roots, are where it's at for me
@@JoeyJustJoking. you're the cool kid on the block! 😎Here's some suggestions for you, since you like Lead Belly...Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Willie Mctell, and of course Bob Dylan! Stay Lit...
There is so much that is incorrect in this video, including the pictures of “Kevin Eggers”-that’s not Kevin in the pictures they’re showing, it’s Harold Eggers, Townes’ road manager/friend of more than 20 years. Kevin Eggers wasn’t Townes’ manager, he owned both Tomato Records and Poppy Records, the labels that released the majority of Townes’ records. Take everything in this video with a grain of salt, as it was obviously done as nothing more than a way to get views.
I agree with the negative assessment of this video. A lot of it is bull shit. There is a bit of truth but so misleading and an insult to Townes’ memory‼️
Well, I have to agree. Dylan tried to meet Townes many times. I know because Townes and I lived together for several years in Houston Texas on Truxillo St and in Pasadena Texas. This was when The Old Quarter in downtown Houston was alive and kicking and Rex Bell and Dale Soffar owned it💞 Those were the good ol days I always cherish. . I have many many great stories and memories. This video is NOT TRUE, in many ways!
I've met one of his granddaughters and she tells different stories. Heartwarming and heartbreaking stories, true, but this delivery is a paltry attempt to do him any justice. If you are any kind of journalist or documentarian, do some legwork and research.
I was tour manager for Townes' first solo visit to the UK (+ Holland & Dublin) in 1987. I also was tour manager for Townes' best friend Guy Clark on two UK & Ireland tours. Working alongside Townes was the most bizarre three weeks of my entire life, but I couldn't watch this video all the way through.......so much nonsense. When he was on form, he was magical, when he wasn't.........oh boy, what a nightmare!
I've always been a huge fan of Townes, like John Prine neither had the melodic voice that the public thrives to hear, but their songwriting ability is unsurpassed and will live on through the ages. When they write it's like they have a close secret personal knowledge of the makeup of my own soul. I was in Community College when the Cowboy Junkies released Black Eyed Man & when I heard their cover of Towns' "To Live Is To Fly" it blew my mind.
Gosh, I am sorry for his pain. And his family. Mental disorder in the mid 60's and in the 70's, was disabling. It was! I lived it. I still it this day.
I wish it weren't, but it's still disabling. Most people either do not have access or do not seek any type of help because they're in a very bad place...also, many who do receive help receive a lifetime of entirely the wrong type of help.
This is such a poor biopic of Townes Van Zandt.Much of it is just a cut and paste job (often inaccurate) from other, more respectable sources.I suggest you go elsewhere if you are searching for the real Townes. There is nothing original whatsoever in this ,and it simply does not live up to its title. His children did not "confirm the rumors".
Yeah. This video says he wrote Pancho and Lefty at his Managers House in NYC. In Heartworn Highways he tells the Story and says he wrote it in a Hotel in Gainesville TEXAS. Gainesville happens to be my Home but, I was raised in Van Zandt County TEXAS which is named after his Family. I know one of his Cousins too 🤠
Really good documentary. Thank you for posting. Yup. I knew them all. Photographed studio portraits of them all too. I wouldn't know where to start with stories. Hilarious and idiotic times from 1986-9. Then include Blaze Foley.
I was born and raised in Nashville, spent 32-years on the police department and never heard of this guy's name. However, I never forget a face and remember seeing him around town even though the place is filled with wannabe singers and songwriters. Listing to him sing and the words to his songs and I still don't get it. If folk music is about not being able to sing and juvenile lyrics, then I understand why I never cared for it.
I knew Townes. That's the way he was. Just goes to show you that you can have your brains fried and still come out and be one the greatest songwriter talents and influencers in Texas History. Heard of Roky Erickson?
Any Fans of his music? 🤔
Me, I’m happy you finally covered Townes
Big time
I personally believe rake is the greatest song ever written

I didn't get that far, as soon as they spelled Pancho wrong five seconds in I knew it was a hack job.
Seem like AI
Thanks for clarifying

with all the BS comments Towns VanZant was and still a hero to me..I discovered is music later in life..I tip my hat ..
I can’t find the words to explain how much Town’s’ music means to me
It’s sort of a life saving music
Dude did you even try? This is embarassing.
Hey just take this video down dude, and upload something that took a little work.
This commentary didn't even come to what the actual story is!
I've met one of his granddaughters and she tells different stories. Heartwarming and heartbreaking stories, true, but this delivery is a paltry attempt to do him any justice. If you are any kind of journalist or documentarian, do some legwork and research.
I knew TVZ and this group here from 1986-9 and this vid is kinda the way I remember it.
Townes Van Zandt is one of my biggest favourites ever! I am so lucky to have discovered him.
This is ai trying to diss. on Townes . All the internet taken over by these freaking ai voices.

You can go ahead and spit in your own eye steve

I saw him in Preston (UK) probably on that tour . He didn`t seem in a good way but boy could he sing and play. Small room above a pub. Happy memories.
I can’t bear watching this listening to this narrator oh my god who decided that was a good idea

All the vids from that channel seem to follow the same template and similar title, and equally shoddy "research" if you could even call it that.
I knew them all accept Earl. That's the way they seemed to me.
Love his music 🎶 Tecumseh Valley with Nanci Griffith . No sugar coating his songs.
This video is a disgrace to Townes' legacy. And what's with that goofy thumbnail?
Why? I don’t think so
I know one of his Cousins too 🤠
Now we remember him. Only him. There is only him in his genre, maybe a little deputy dog
Dude you slaughtered the whole video facts, names , ....facts....its all wrong
Yeah. It was Harold Eggers not Kevin.
The War and Peace joke was brutal. There was something about Steve that bothered Townes.
Sounds like an AI plagiarism of a weak article.
And "Only Him or Me."
I can’t imagine putting this video together, reviewing it, and still deciding to upload it.
If you’re completely new to Townes, finish this video and go listen to his song “Rake”.
This entire video is made by AI including the voice
Really good documentary. Thank you for posting. Yup. I knew them all. Photographed studio portraits of them all too. I wouldn't know where to start with stories. Hilarious and idiotic times from 1986-9. Then include Blaze Foley.
Hello from Norway! I am a fan of his music.
Giant fail with a few chances to have Vand Zandt rhyme in that intro.
That thumbnail looks horrific. Townes im sure is rolling in his grave about this video
Ya’ll should consider a different career path.
The covers by Wino are amazing
Ain't AI *grand*?
Yuck.did a human even have any part in this..
Just watch Be here to love me and heartworn highway…
Awesome
Janis Baby Janis !!!❤❤❤
This is absolute garbage. I hope Townes’s estate sues you. 😡
Whackiest video biography I have ever seen.
Wow, this is so bad... I removed this channel from being suggested to me... ugh... the creepy voice alone is worth blocking.
Jokes reveal the

This is exactly the response I would expect from an anencephalic ex-cop.
