I love how soft-spoken and sincere you were when you were teaching this woman. You have a great gift for knowing which of your communication "tools" will work best with both dogs AND their owners!
You have a great gift Tom, being able to communicate kindly and clearly with both people and dogs. Absolutely love watching when it "clicks" for the owners! Thanks also to those people who allow their learning to be shared with us..
The end where she almost chokes up got me. I could feel all the areas my dog has caused me melt away through her. I'm glad I found your channel I'm hoping to make my two dogs perfect like this.
@@trevorjennings doing great!! Training a little rescue dog and completely loving it! We haven't been hit to hard by covid 19... All family and friends are safe and well.!
I think the best takeaway for me from all your videos has been the I'M the one making mistakes not my dog. I don't hold him accountable and I don't use the correct techniques. So he's confused or misbehaving because I taught him that's okay. If I had just done the research and kept on top of training he'd be everything he was capable of being. That was a hard realization to go through, because no one wants to feel like they failed or they're in the wrong when it comes to their dogs, but knowing that gave me a whole new appreciation and way of looking at my dog. I was struggling for so long and wondering why my dog doesn't like me, or doesn't want to listen to me, it made me feel more and more upset and apathetic towards him, when in reality I'm the one that was showing him that towards him and he didn't know what to do with that. You're videos help a lot, I'm very grateful for you giving me the chance to reconnect with my dog and help me be a better pet owner. Thank you

Another great video. I found it interesting that when Tom took the leash and was doing different turns, his energy was high, his movements faster and the dog was focused on him. Once the owner tried it, while she seemed to be doing everything right, she was much slower with less energy and the dog didn't respond as well.
@@jamiesusan8 Old? Stop that! You were out there with the best of them. You were doing everything right! Once you gain more confidence, Steve won't be able to take your eyes off of you. Good luck with him.
@@jamiesusan8You were a star in class! The fact you care about your relationship with pup enough to have joined the class for help speaks volumes. By the end of the video, the difference in your confidence and handling was huge. It won’t be long until you have his full attention! Tom’s tips were great and you followed right along and made the changes to be successful!
@@jamiesusan8oh, it is always like this with trainers. My dog is ideal when with trainer. But she knows all the weak points of mine when she is in my hands :) I think it is similar in your case. Dog needs our consistent behavior to understand we are not rewarding what we accidentally kept rewarding before.
I just found your channel and OMG Tom, you are amazing! I've watched others' and you are by far on top! what I always ask myself is this: my dog is great with the turns and for a moment he responds great to it and can focus on the heeling but after 20-30 metres he goes in front of me again and the game starts again. I cut im off, i turn and do some handling stuff and I try to continue. It works in the moment but afterwards if I want to go straight he forgets about it and does the same behavior as before. So how do I teach him to stay in that position longer because I can do the turns and cut-offs but at some point you just want to move forward and don't go in circles all the time.
What do you do if you do all the stuff that you’re doing like going to the right going to the left bumping into him and your dog gets higher when you do that to him and not lower
Could you please offer some hope for an end to resource guarding? My dog is sweet and playful with other pups unless they get near his food or toys. He will also growl if an off leash dog approaches me. A trainer told me this behavior is permanent. Is there anything I can do to help him?
I saw an older lady out with her son's 2 y/o German Shepherd and she was going to walk him but he was dragging her. To the point she needed help to get him reeled in and put up. I don't know if you have a video on how to handle a big dog that is walking you instead of you walking it but it sure would be helpful for her as well as a lot of others to see. If anyone reading this knows of a video showing how to stop this pulling please let me know!
Any tips regarding Communicating With Your Body vs. A Leash with an itty bitty Jack Russell ? My dog is 7 and I still struggle to get him to heel, he's always pulling on the leash like crazy, and I can't exactly do the body thing, otherwise I'll step on him 🥲
Smaller steps, don’t lift your feet too high and I guarantee you won’t step on him. Even if you took regular steps, he knows how to get out of your way, I promise you.
HOW DO I TRAIN MY DOG to NOT fear thunderstorms.? every time theres a storm, he comes down to my basement office where i am and hides under my desk. and if i leave the office he will follow me everywhere, sometimes even outsides where its still raining or thundering in the background. when not storming he hangs out in living room with anyone else who will let him sit on or near them. Why does he only wanna hang around ME, noone else during storms?
HI TOM I KNOW I HAVE SAID THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT WHEN I AM WALKING MY STANDARD POODLE I WALK WITH A WALKER AND SOMETIMES HE LIKES TO PULL TO SEE OTHER DOGS I HAVE THE LEASH TIED ON ONE OF MY BELT LOOPS I AM GOING TO SEE IF THAT WORKS I THINK IT’S GOING TO WORK OR PUT ME IN THE HOSPITAL THATS A JOKE I HOPE
