Fazil Say-Black Earth, Belle Chen Piano, extended technique

- Belle Chen depicts a Turkish stringed instrument by using "Extended Technique". Composed by Turkish concert pianist Fazil Say, Black Earth was inspired by a popular Turkish song "Kara Toprak". Say's works are distinctive in their influence from the folk music of Turkey and Its neighbours. The Park Lane Group concert at St James Piccadilly, London was on 29 June 2016 .
This is a very traditional sort of prologue that Turkish bards use with Baglama (a very traditional yet popular stringed instrument) which requires quite a local spirit. Belle Chen feels it as if she was born in Turkey. This is beyond beautiful. Thanks very much Michael notthatone Parkinson.
Thank you Yuksel Oden for your comment. Only those who attended that performance know what Belle said to the audience and how emotional she was. It was an unforgettable experience. Michael Parkinson
Thank you Yuksel Oden for your comment. Belle is a very special talent. Michael Parkinson
On 11 July 2016 this video was "shared" by maestro Fazil Say himself. What greater accolade could Belle receive? Michael Parkinson
Well deserved! Thanks for sharing Michael.
wonderful piece from fazıl say and wonderful pianist that plays it. loves from turkey sir micheal.
the brand of the piano is almost the name of the composer:) great performance
Wow, I'm deeply touched by her way of playing! Absolutely stunning!
I love talented people like this. Nice performance thanks.
Belle reminds me of what it means to be ALIVE. I am touched and inspired. THANK YOU!
Thank you for your comment Melissa. Only those who attended that concert know what Belle said to the audience before she played this piece and the huge applause she received. She is a star. Michael Parkinson
This is so beautiful. As a Turkish person I had goosebumps. 💜
Thank you Ece Arsian for your comment. It was a very emotional performance because Belle was in tears just before she played. It was on the day of a tragedy at Ankara Airport. Michael Parkinson
Fantastic, well done.
Thank you coralimages for your comment. Belle charmed the audience with her lovely introductions and ability at the keyboard. This was the most unusual and compelling piece I have witnessed. Michael Parkinson

Thank you Mahir KOC for your lovely and accurate comment. Michael Parkinson

Müzik evrenseldir. Tüm dünyayı çevreler . Dilini bilmediğiniz haritada yerini bilmediğiniz bir köyden bile bütün dünyaya sesini duyuracak kadar güçlüdür . Tebrikler .
Thank you @mustikusti6265 For you lovely comment
Lovely interpretation.
Perfect interpration
Thank you InchofF for your comment. I agree with you. Michael Parkinson
Very good performance. I can hear the feelings of the pianist. That is the issue. İmitation portions also a kind of improvisation, no need to compare with original version. Even Fazil Say plays differently time to time. So bravo...
Thank you carsancak for your comment. It was indeed a remarkable performance. Michael Parkinson
congrats belle!! It’s amazing
Great performance. Congratulations
Thank you eanver for your comment. It was an amazing performance. Michael Parkinson

Thank you 'the classic one' for your comment. This performance was on the day of the terrible atrocity at Ankara Airport and Belle Chen dedicated her performance to the people who died or were injured. She was in tears as she announced this so her performance was full of emotion. Michael Parkinson
this is great. Thanks
Thank you AydinEvrim for your comment. This is the most remarkable piece that I have ever videoed. Michael Parkinson
belle, you are amazing!! a very incredible performance. i didnt know you can do that on a piano.
Thank you potatoaru12 for your comment. She is a very talented young lady. Michael Parkinson
Its just not the same when somebody else plays it. . Fazıl say adds emotions to it maybe because he knows the real meaning under the original song like the rest of turkish people.
Ben çok beğendim. Süpersiniz siz bir sanatçısınız. Fazıl Say görse çok beğenirdi eminim.
The English translation of your comment is 'I liked it very much. You you are superb, you are an artist. I'm sure Fazıl Say would have liked it if he saw' Fasil Say did see it and made a lovely comment. Michael Parkinson
I have to pick up this piece and rework it.
Have been casting it aside for too long 😢
Well played...
Thank you Rick Sanchez for your comment. She is brilliant. Michael Parkinson

@@michaelparkinsonnotsir thanks
Mükemmel !
Bravo
Herkes Fazıl say gibi çalmasını bekliyor, nafile anlamsız bekleyiş:) fakat güzel çalışma olmuş tebrikler.
Thank you Serhat for your comment, tyhe English translation is' 'Everyone is waiting for her to play like Fazıl Say, a futile wait :) but congratulations'. She is Belle, not Fazil, myself and the audience loved her performance. Michael Parkinson
if you allow me, i have to say, that the Prolouge docent "sounds" very good, because your left hand is too far inside. Its makes that there are no swinging flageolet-kind of sound. You maight try it, with the left just close to the "Stimmstock" as it is called in German ( i don't know what it is called in english).
Nice
Anadolunun ateşi tüm dünyayı sarar. (The fire of Anatolia surrounds the whole world.)
Sounds very interesting
Belle is very impressive
Çok güzel tebrikler.
Thank @cemiltuy2998 The English Translation is 'Very Nice Congratulations' Michael Parkinson
Wow amazin !
amazing performance
The piano not being a turkish traditional intrument, it's very rare to see a folk piece played on it. I had no clue that the very middle eastern sound could sound so beautiful on it though. Might want to try this piece out myself in the future.
It's not middle eastern sound, it's an intrument that comes from siberia/central asia.
Respect to Asık Veysel Satıroglu, Turkish(anatolian) and arranged to piano by Fazil Say. About death and being alive. The words of the song is also very deeply effective. Thank you Belle
Thank you Tolga Gundogdu it was an emotional performance, Michael Parkinson
kara toprak kokusu
👏👏👏

Orjinalinin zevkini vermiyor
You are playing it tooo fast...
Hello Tony Montana.. I though the tempo was OK for me but we are all entitled to our opinions.
Sende duygu eksik bacım
Hello LION MANE, Thank you for your comment which Google translator tells me is 'You're missing emotion' I can' tell you the full story of what Belle said to the audience before she started to play this piece, but I can tell you that she was in tears just seconds before she started to play. So emotion is the last thing that was missing. Best wishes Michael Parkinson
