How to Fix That Annoying Loose Stitch - Is It Foot Lift Rather Than Tension?

  • Why do you sometimes experience loose stitches on the underside of your sewing project? It has to do with stitch tension when the presser feet are not properly walking on top of your assembly. Eric will show you what can go wrong with stitch tension if the walking feet, mainly the center foot, are not lifting properly due to varying thicknesses of fabric. The issue can easily be resolved if you understand the problem.

    This answers my occasional problem of chasing thread tension. It never made sense that I needed more top tension when sewing thicker seams. Now I realize one side of the foot may have been in the "valley".
    Thank you! I may never have figured this out without your epiphany.

    Hi, I’m getting that on my Leather project, but the left zipper foot I’m using is at the same level as the inner foot. So, why am I getting ever larger and larger loops?

    YES! This video fixed my issue that I was chasing for a long time. I’ve played with tension, replaced parts, called for help, etc. I pretty much gave up and almost sent my machine back for service. After watching this, I noticed that my presser foot was just barely kissing the bottom teeth. The middle part of the foot was not “popping” at all. I’m still not sure how to adjust this.. but what I did was to move the presser foot down slightly so that it contacts the bottom more.

      Sailrite does have a special unlisted video for adjusting the presser feet. Feel free to contact us for help on that topic. If you own our machine we will send a link to the video showing how it is done. email info@sailrite.com

    That works for sewing along a seam. What about when you sew over a seam, and on every seam, you get loose stitching under the seam? For instance sewing the hem of a flag. I’m sewing the end of the flag, but whenever I sew over the color change between white and red, there is a seam. On every seem, I have loose thread under the seam. Once I’m over it, the thread is nice and tight.

    Oh lovely, thank you. I kept increasing tension to max but still loose stitches. I just needed to increase pressure of foot a tad.

      If it is not a walking foot machine then you probably have too little upper tension.

    What if you're not using a foot like that?

    • @piorism
      @piorism Год назад

      Well then it's not the same problem, and is likely just caused by tension in need of being adjusted.
