    Fascinating! Thanks for a wonderful explanation of a subject I had wondered about whenever Petra was mentioned.
    Side note: Since we are talking Petra, what do you think about Dan Gibson and his claim about Petra being the original Mecca?
    ("...That is the case here. Dan Gibson, a Canadian historian and author of three books, The Nabataeans (2004), Quranic Geography (2011), and Early Islamic Qiblas (2017), a documentary film The Sacred City (2016), has presented such a case. Gibson has spent 30 years living in Arabia doing on-the-ground research on Islam's geographical, factual history. Gibson's point is that Petra is the original city Muhammad grew up in. He has dozens of facts that support his claim, and they make sense. I will not go further without saying that numerous scholars, both Islamic and Western, vigorously dispute his claim...")

      Hello ElEghari, and thanks for viewing so quickly. Yes I have come across this theory before. Not in detail but along my research of both Mecca and the Nabataeans. I haven't dived into the details but will probably do so as I am curious as to the facts that Gibson presents. Thank for sharing though. I am sure a lot of viewers will check out this topic once they read your commentary.

      @@thekandarichronicles hello, sad news. My beloved Petra has passed away. She was 14 years and 14 days old. She has been on a decline in health, so we were expecting her to go. You see Petra will never be forgotten by me or by my wife and two girls. Petra now belongs in our memory as well. She owns a story within our family that will always remember her for perking her ears up when she hears the sound of my voice speaking her name. This is precious to us and will forever be.
      Now apply that to a lifetime with you and I can only imagine the vast and wonderful memories she has created for you and that will be with you in eternity.

      @@thekandarichronicles don’t doubt it, i share your channel as much as i can 😄
      also, is the evolution and spread of the arabic language in the swana region one of the topics you’re planning to make videos on? i am seeing many tweets from americans and europeans (israel supporters) who argue that arabic and the arab identity only grew because of muslim imperialism. this is not absolutely false obviously - but they create the impression that with the muslim arab conquest of iraq, syria and egypt, languages such as aramaic and coptic were ‘banned’ and arabic was imposed with force.
      it’d be so interesting to hear your research and thoughts on this.

      There definitely is a video in the works on the Islamic expansion in the 7th. Addressing the element of Arabs versus non Arab nations and how they developed over the Islamic caliphates. From a language side, that would probably be another angle.

    • @thekandarichronicles
      @thekandarichronicles  4 месяца назад +4

      The Romans that did eventually take over the Nabataean kingdom was much later in history. The Nabataeans during their hay day were virtually invincible to attack, but the kingdom did start to fall apart and mainly for economic reasons thereby losing their power and will and that is when the Romans took over during the 1st century BCE. Thanks for your inquiry though.
      Oh yes, no wells documented per se, but they had natural springs in and out of the city but nothing within city that in isolation could sustain them for long sieges.

    I heard archaeologist Dr. Salman Al-Dhaib (سليمان الذييب )say that the Kingdom of Dadan is the oldest Arab kingdom, and I believe that we will see even older kingdoms with archaeological excavations.
    I believe that Mada'in Saleh is a Thamudic civilization, but it was inhabited by the Nabataeans later, and the civilization of Midian the people of the Prophet Shuaib is similar in its urban style to Mada'in Saleh as well, and I will send a video of it while it is on the northwestern border of Saudi Arabia.
