Conversation with History Face to Face: The Science of Reading Faces - Part 2 of 3 A Conversation with Paul Ekman Series Host: Harry Kreisler January 14, 2004
Good to know u keep pushing good... I was in a dark spot but this interview has encouraged me... Huge fun. Never thought I would find videos of you. Thank you.
Well Mr.Ekman you may not willingly teach people how to tell a perfect lie but you still teach them in a way by reaserching those subjects and revealing them. I think some informations must be kept secret from the society. But in todays world we almost find everything we want. What we need is the courage to make what we know real. BUt still I thank you from the heart :)
Nonsense John, emotions CAN be read by facial expressions and body language, not only in our own species but in many or all of them. If there was no way of reading emotions then dogs, for example, would not know they are in danger and to back off from someone else's bone. A child needs only to look at his mother's face to know she's angry and he must stop playing up now. A gorilla's face can show enjoyment of a honey-comb which draws the others in for a share of the treat. A tiny baby's face can crumple in sadness when it's passed over to a stranger to hold. Incidentally, how do feelings and thoughts differ from emotions? They are usually very closely linked. Think of a person who has threatened you and soon you will feel the emotion of fear and/or anger and if you were filmed privately, your face would express that emotion.
If I'm correct on some of his studies, I concluded that he was lying when talking about teaching police... Or at least saying that he is teaching them but is honest in his intentions
Explain your hypothesis. I am also currently studying his work and learning to read body language but I saw nothing in his gestures that would suggest deceit.
It is unscientific to claim that you can read emotions from facial expressions or body language. At best you can guess (which is not scientific) as to the mind set of someone expressing pleasure or displeasure. Ekman publishes examples of facial expressions claiming each represents a specific" emotion" but each could represent different rather than specific feelings. What we actually express are feelings and thoughts only some of which are attributable to emotional impact.

Always within context.

Does anyone know where we could go to test for the wizards of deception detection?

I sometimes think people don't want to catch the micro expressions because their feelings may be hurt by seeing the truth.
The body doesn’t lie.
He's the first person I've seen talk about this that isn't on bullshit
+Lilith Niine Maybe because he's the pioneer...

I've noticed empaths are great natural lie detectors

After reading your comment it's a pity you can't see my facial expression. 😩 I've made it easy for you.
oh god here comes that one guy. 911 was an inside job, you can't read emotions and yes, there is a civilisation on Mars and they will kill us
EqualsDeath - yes, no, no.
Somebody will always know you're lying, John.
