    Great documentary! I learned a lot about how the RCMP in the 1950s was different from the RCMP today! What's also pretty interesting is that my friend's paternal grandfather was a Mountie in the RCMP back then!

      Yup, thank goodness too. Their parents were too drunk remembering "the good old days" before the Europeans came and stopped them from cannibalizing each other. Those cultural imperialists!
      Probably didn't help the Europeans did to them what they had done to their fellow tribes for centuries... only far better.

      Our society dictates morality, based many factors including who we elect to make the laws. To reflect upon the past with a "revisionist lense" is for the naive and simple minded people.
      To judge the actions of these young men for something society demanded of them - you might as well turn your revisionist lense back upon yourself as you were as complicit as a member of that society. In contrast, I offer a novel solition: let's move forward as a society and stop leaning on the crutch that "victim culture" provides. That's how we stand strong and is what reconciliation should be - acknowledge past mistakes and move forward together without blaming, resentment or playing the victim.

      Ah yes, the good old days, where native people had their children torn from them. There are native people in their 50s who still have their number badges. Disgusting. The RCMP was created to perpetuate colonialism.

      Deep thinker you are… your quite correct; we should have ignored them and left them in the Stone Age. At least that would make them that much easier to deal with/defeat nowadays… your right, I’m so sorry we tried to bring you out of the stone age. Again, if that way of life (for some reason) appeals to you, go off and enjoy a primitive life on crown land-nobody’s stoping you. But you just, well, won’t. Because you like electricity and shitting indoors as much as I do. You people just want something to bitch about… pathetic. Pathetic and shameful; the great chiefs of old would be spinning in their graves if they could see the point their descendants have brought themselves to. Again, very sorry for trying to raise your lot in life- I assure you it will not happen again…

      1957 Service Order of dress No. 1:
      Felt hat, brown jacket, khaki shirt, blue tie, blue breeches, long boots, JACK SPURS...
      They did have a Service Dress No. 2 with ankle boots and no spurs but it was more for office work, in aircraft, boats, etc. The boots and spurs were eventually dropped a few years later for patrol work.

  • @lorenmcleod2816

    In any encounter with any police thug, I always endeavor to be courteous, law-abiding and respectful. Unfortunately, it is generally the police gang member that tries to escalate issues. The aforementioned isn't just my opinion, it's a common occurrance. I have taught law(Crim justice 230) for almost 40 years and inevitably the worst students were usually police thugs needing to improve their grasp of law and rights. I have socialized numerous times over the years with these "cowboys" and the "small talk" is extremely disconcerting. I have lauded officers many times for doing the right thing, the issue is however, that's what they're supposed to do each and every encounter(short of a armed encounter with a citizen)!!! I have actually contributed to TI. on occasion. they are not as non-biased as you may think, they also have an agenda(take a look at the careers of some of the current and past directors[golly! some former police members[). This isn't about cop-bashing, it's about accountability, integrity etc. Most forces are severely lacking in those subjects. I'm not the one creating the havoc, I'm simply trying to expose the serious problems that exist in policing today, both here in Canada and the USA. It's our duty as good citizens to hold our public servants to account just as any other citizen would be.

    • @aos8585
      @aos8585 6 лет назад +6

      Actually, you are "cop bashing". You come across as very self important and closed minded. I couldn't imagine someone with an ego as large as yours could be an effective teacher. I'll bet that if any student dares to question your opinion, they would receive a failing grade because you present as one of those instructors who expect their students to regurgitate what they have heard in a lecture. No doubt you see the police students as
      "the worst students" becasue they dare to question you. Perhaps you have spent too much time in academia hobnobbing with all those who espouse the same anti- establishment mind set. You don't say where you taught but I hope you are either retired or retiring soon. I can't imagine how you could effectively teach law when you possess such an anti police attitude. Our police and military as expected to do a very difficult dangerous job. It is easy for people like to you to second guess an outcome while sitting at their keyboards spewing their negative rhetoric without any real- life policing experience.

    • @lorenmcleod2816
      @lorenmcleod2816 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your response, generally such ignorant drivel doesn't warrant a response, I have received many very supportive messages(even from former police officers, male and female) yours being the only one that tries to defend the indefensible...specifically the overwhelming evidence of police forces out of control. As Gandhi said..."there are none so blind as those that choose not to see..." To your personal attack on me I say, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I don't agree with yours but respect your right to have it, ignorance is quite common among the unenlightened. Having been a police officer for five years back in the '70s is what drove me into teaching(with a law degree) law, hoping to be a positive influence for police officers as well as others interested in real law and order.. As to your assertion that "...police...do a very difficult dangerous job..." you better check your facts, policing isn't even in the top fifteen most dangerous jobs in either Canada or the USA. Thanks for the laugh regarding "...any student dares to question your opinion...would receive a failing grade..." is completely wrong, as best as I remember the vast majority of police officer students passed the course(they were required to, to keep their jobs!!!), however, I wasn't teaching moral and personal conduct and that is something severely lacking in the everyday conduct by police officers(the evidence is readily available if you choose review it). Finally, yes I retired in December of 2015 but continue to guest lecture on occasion when invited by various colleges and universities. Citizens with your mind set is what allows police states to develop, history has proven it repeatedly. I will continue to support and promote accountability and integrity from our public servants, it's what must be expected from them. Hopefully you'll buy a winch and endeavor to pull your head out of your ass!
