- I realized that we haven't had a good old fashioned eyeshadow palette controversy in a while, so let's walk down memory lane and talk about the STORIES behind some of these iconic palettes! What was the backlash? Let's talk about it!
Federal employee whose heart has been in her stomach since we got those DEI emails last week...this was very needed. The nostalgia was fun.
I miss the old beauty YT days so much. Unfortunately at the time I couldn’t buy anything and it broke my heart. Now I can do more but the launches are nowhere near as fun and exciting. Thank u for ur videos. It’s so fun and love hearing about new launches from you!
Loved going through the oldies!!!! And I totally agree with you about ABH!!! Getting one of their palettes was a magical feeling then it went downhill with the Norvina ones…Feel like they haven’t gotten their spark back.

This is random but next time its spring cleaning time for decluttering makeups, most eyeshadows are just pressed pigments and great for making paints. Give it to an artist or make some paint.
Thanks for a fun and lighthearted chat. I'm a federal employee of 18 years and will find out this week if I will have a job. Needless to say, I need all the distraction I can get.

hey jen thank you for this, i needed this. im terrified with whats going on in this country. im not really targeted as a white person but i am a woman and disabled both of which could be targeted by project 2025. ive already been a bit as theyre increasing prescription costs and also food prices and im already barely making it. plus they took us out of the who, cdc etc and im high risk from c19 much less whatever else to come aside from bird flu which is extremely fatal... im terrified of what else may be to come. i hope you and Phoenix is doing okay right now during these times. i hope you and john have fun on your trip! mad love
I'm so sorry to hear this... I'm not American but in Europe we are also extremely wary of what Trump's presidency means for the whole world, with him disregarding the climate change, sucking up to Putin etc. I can't imagine what it must feel like to actually be the direct subject of his inhumane policies. I have a chronic illness and it makes me a ball of anxiety as is... What your politicians are putting you through, on top of the inevitable physical pain and social cost of disability, is unforgivable.
@durcheinander5554 yeah I'm worried the people of other countries will have to deal with this stuff as well. It's scary. How we got here I don't get. I knew Trump would cause issues likely but I didn't know it could be THAT bad. I pray you guys won't have to worry about this. What's really scary is it has similarities to a certain event that involved Germans and jews in the early to mid 1900s. I hope I'm worried for nothing, though it don't seem I am considering what they've already done ygh

Lorac started to fade when they did their Brunch collection and it was soooo pastel that you couldn’t see it really. I don’t think it was anything specific, they just didn’t keep up. Their Disney Collabs were great though!
As for Too Faced, they did do a watermelon palette! It was part of their Tutti Frutti collection. It was only at Ulta and had some great eyeshadow palettes. I still love the pineapple one.
Companies changing formulas/ingredients without labeling it is so shady. My cat food was reformulated with no notice on the label. I'm so lucky none of them got sick, they have allergies and other dietary needs. I was really disappointed when I realized how badly it could have gone and I wouldn't have known why. Companies change binders and fillers in nutritional supplements all the time too. You've got to read the labels online every time you buy and when it arrives on package too, because sometimes they don't match.😡

The Conspiracy palette always seemed like a drag color story, or possibly a Star Trek cosplay palette to me. My ABH Subculture palette is the only unexpired palette that I didn’t pass on to someone, it was such a powdery mess. I saved the gold pan in a z palette and threw the rest away. That palette kept me from buying any other ABH palettes, and I’m a fool that will buy anything makeup related. 😂 Modern Renaissance was an Ipsy pick last year and I gave it to a younger gal straight away because I I had the Denona Retro and I felt I didn’t need both. Thanks for the nostalgia. ❤

I have the Subculture palette & really like some of the colors, but I got it from TJ Maxx so it’s probably reformulated. I also don’t use most of the colors together. (Like I’ll use them in conjunction with darker neutrals.)

Edit-speaking of Mel, the ONE palette I would give anything for them to release again is that Tarte Aspyn Ovard (spelling?) palette! That was Mel’s go-to palette and I have kicked myself for years for not getting it! Tarte, PLEASE release that palette again!!!!! Enjoy your cruise, Jen! I caught the live you did on your cruise with your mom :) It was precious!
Wasn't there a Tarte Maneater palette quite recently that had a quite colorful color story? For Tarte anyway :D It was Maneater Nightfall or sth like that
I still have my original ABH modern renaissance pallette and its still kicking 🤎🤣expired? Yeppp most definitely. Lol and the 39A artistry pallette from morphe! Lol tatibeauty one too that one hurt that she had to close! I hope tati makes a comeback!!!
I was a suuuuper TF girl after the peach re-launch. I’m super pale so their stuff really worked for me - esp the festival palette and the highlighter blush peach palette. Tho i agree when i wanted to do deeper looks I didn’t reach for those!
anyways - after peach came the tutti fruiti collection which was, i suppose, the attempt at a “fruit theme” but it was disjointed from sweet peach - the art was different. I did really like the raspberry eyeshadow palette and watermelon face mist

Hope you have a blast! The Wonder is my favorite ship!! Make sure you catch Intense - the water show. it’s AMAZING!! (My daughter and I went to every single one!). If he likes getting wet, I highly recommend the first and second rows 😂 Super fun!!

The urban decay electric palette was my first high end palette it is what got me into makeup. ❤
I wish the nostalgia boom would bring back the chocolate gold palette! It was and is still one of my favorites ❤

I LOVED the Lorac Pro pallets! It was my first nice makeup pallet i ever bought.

Honestly if i ever came across a second-hand but new or lightly used Conspiracy palette, i would 100% buy it.
I think it’s an everything palette, the first row is wearable everyday neutrals, the bottom row is my goth dream with that maroon and deep green, and the middle is just crazy and fun shades! I love the different colour stories in it:)
But if it were ever re-released, i still wouldn’t buy it, and not just because shipping it to Canada would cost probably $130-$150 by the end with duties and conversion.
Two takeaways..... First Lorac was forgotten because the next big thing kept coming out to the market and they got left behind. Secondly, I had major FOMO for these palettes back in the day and looking back, I’m glad I saved my money.
We had a cold snap last week in Minnesota but it’s back to normal now! It’s currently 17 degrees out but last week it reached 20 below 😂
Too Faced did indeed produce a watermelon palette: eyeshadow on one half of the magnetized palette and blush/bronzer/highlight in the other half. It’s adorable! It’s called Watermelon Slice.

At Universal, many of the rides have behind the scenes tours (MIB, Velocicoaster, the Mummy). They don't advertise it but if you ask the cast members at the entrance they'll tell you if/when they're doing the tour that day!
What about Urban Decay Naked? That was the first eyeshadow palette that I can remember. The only eyeshadow palette I had before that was Maybelline Nudes of New York.

I bought the conspiracy palette and every time I used it I had no idea how to use it. Then my eyes would constantly water. Recently threw it out since I haven’t touched it for ever. Mine looked brand new too😢
It would’ve been really cool if you included the price point of each of these palettes so we could compare what palettes are costing today versus back then!
Now after watching the live chat I’m wondering if I’m a makeup hoarder since I have all of these palettes and their collections or I’m just attracted to drama 🤦🏻♀️ yet I’ve never used some more than just swatching a few shades.
Same! I’ve finally culled out palettes I didn’t truly love. Sprayed all lightly with/ alcohol, dried, & filled a couple boxes w/ basically unused palettes, + othr powder products “spritzable,” & let my kids, their partners/fam’s, go through all of it. I think only a couple lip liners newly sharpened & also spritzed left behind. Guess the ‘left-behind’ colors just weren’t current enough- I STILL hv far too much/appreciated but not used-I’m gearing up for a 2nd declutter! I DO hv a lot more space in my bathroom/vanity area 👍🏽Also paid off previous makeup charges! ✅🔆
We were attracted to the fun of the launches! I have so many i didn’t use-I didn’t get my hands on that conspiracy palette, but it’s probably a good thing! I wouldn’t be brave enough to wear those bright colors anyway. :) I have a big stack I never used! Thank you to the poster above about sanitizing them! I will do that and let people who want them have them! ❤️

Tarte has done two Maneater palettes that are colorful and fantastic
Amazonian and that 25th(?) celebration as well.
I bought the conspiracy pallet as well, I had all of his pallets at one point. I couldn’t stand using them because of what they stood for, so I gave them all away.
Too Faced done a fruit line after the Peach series, however it was quickly forgotten. Kandee Johnson was the face of the line and they done palettes in raspberry, pineapple, banana, cherry, to name a few.
No more than 5 days ago, Caroline Hirons uploaded a video where she had an interview/chat with the lesbian lipsticks, and Caroline mentioned the person from the Ordinary brand, and immediately I thought about you with your research about him. The comment that Caroline made about him it was positive. Wonder who's the person that you are planning to interview 🤔 . Nice live chat and enjoy tour trip with your son. I just checked my subculture pallet that I bought at TJ Maxx. I figured for sure it was one of the older formulas but it is not it has a giant list of ingredients.

I still really like the colors in the Conspiracy palette (ugh, I know). I bought it because I used to like JS's brand, but I actually had no idea who Shane Dawson was and never even watched the docuseries, lol. My YT world was very small back then, and I am allergic to parasocial relationships, so I had no idea these guys were terrible. Once I found out, I was (still am) hella embarassed.
But, I spent my hard-earned money on it and still occasionally use some of the colors.🙃

I discovered that the good apple line is great for filming, but not for every day use. That is at least how I enjoy it.

The other big controversy with Jaclyn Hill's palette was the Vault palettes. I think she claimed those were the same (original) formula and they definitely weren't.
Laura Lee should have put pictures of cats inside that palette. 😂

I still have PTSD from the ABH Subculture palette, that dark green shade... I still avoid palettes that have a shade like that, I knowwww it was the formulation, but it's always a hard pass. It's like getting sick after eating a certian food and you can never eat it again; same thing with that color...

I have never done karaoke because I know I'm not a good singer. Do people get up to sing thinking they can or are they doing it because they know they can't? Am I alone in this world thinking that karaoke is the worst?

Well, I hate to tell you all today it back up to 70° in Florida. The snow is melting because we had historical snow storm 10 inches of snow I don’t have any of those pallets because I just came into the make up world of RUclips on 2020. The only thing I don’t like about two face and tart is there shimmers orange shimmering has two face done or anything recently I haven’t even heard of two face lately

I used to think JS was a changed man and Shane was super smart. I was in my 20s and a lot more naive. Now I am more jaded and really don’t trust influencers. If I had a time machine, I’d go back and slap myself. 😂😂😂 Shane is overhyped and both him and JS are problematic for reasons we already know.
