Broadway Bob really knew how to put on a good show at The Grove. I remember him sitting on the front of that jet car "The Green Mamba" drinking a beer as we chanted light the car Bob. He was a class act.

My wife and I were married in June of '70 and we spent our honeymoon at the "Grove".
What great memories and "Broadway" was the best.

Bob gave me a Kawasaki Z1 drag bike he had in a shed out there. Incredibly nice generous guy. Rip Bob.

Lost era. Grew up at 131 dragway in Michigan. Late brother actually won a Wally at IndyNats early 80s. Not bad for a hobbyist out of his garage. RIP David L Kirschner .❤🙏😪

It's all still pumping through my vines, and I never grew up!! Drag racing in front of 8K+ on an average night was insane, let alone when a national event came to town and we had 40-50K people on the grounds!! I still build 'em like I did back then, and when I race, I still see the crowds in the bleachers!!
The other thing that will never be the same, are the women!! What a time to live!

One thing you can't experience via video is how incredibly loud the track was. Open exhaust race cars doing a burnout. The smell of high octane fuel, oil, grease, and burnt rubber. Popcorn, beer and cigarettes. Everyone smoked back then - especially car guys
